Bridge Builders (Room 103) lessons in June will be about justice. Our lessons will help us explore God s justice and how it is to be practiced. What is justice as God sees it will be the focus of one lesson. One outcome of the lessons will be to enhance our understanding of how our laws evolved over time. Several books of the Old Testament will provide the background for our study. Challengers (Room201) will be led by Karen Degrazio in June. They will be concluding their study called Just Choose Happiness. The Challengers social event for June will be a trip to the Eisenhower Center in Abilene and a chicken dinner at the Brookville Hotel. The class welcomes you to become part of their group. Dream Makers (Room 203) will spend the month of June discussing how scripture and faith relate to our lives. Many of the Dream Makers class are in their late 50 s and 60 s, and are still working. They welcome any age person. Faith Builders (Room 101) will be studying Antidotes for the Out-of-Control Life by Adam Hamilton in June. This four-session sermon series is designed to help you find antidotes for the out-of-control life. Faith Builders is a growing class of 30 and 40 year olds studying relevant topics related to society and the church. You are welcome to become a part! Life Group (the Cry Room) will spend June studying The Extreme Center: Living as United Methodists Today. Kansas Area Bishop Scott Jones looks at what it means to be a Christian and a United Methodist today. The six segments focus on United Methodism, the means of salvation, mission, social justice, evangelism and religion in post-modern American culture. This class is a collection of adults with college age children. Anyone is welcome to visit or join anytime! Wesley Workers (Room 204) follow an eclectic path of Christian nurture. The class will conclude their study Detective Stories from the Bible by J. Ellsworth Kalas on the first two Sundays in June. On June 17 th they will hear from a member of THUMC on how their life responds to God s call. The class will begin a new study I Hear Voices and That s a Good Thing! on June 24 th. Wesley Workers are primarily retirement age, and enjoy getting together for social events. Visitors are more than welcome!

3 Scoop on Youth Group Summer is here! Wow! It s hard to believe that the school year is over. Wednesday night Youth Groups are over for the summer. The summer schedule is out and it begins June 1. There will be Youth Groups on the following Sunday nights: June 10 th and 24 th, July 22 nd, August 12 th and 26 th. Middle School, for those who have completed 5 th -8 th grades, will be 4:00-5:20. High School, for those who have completed 9 th -12 th grades, will be 4:40-6:00. The overlap time will be snacks and games together in Fellowship Hall. We will also try something new this summer - Hang-out at Norm s Coffee Bar. Some are in the evenings and some in the late mornings. Check the published calendar for dates and times. I will provide $5 per person who comes to hang out with me so you can get a latte, iced cappuccino, or whatever. If you want to spend more than that, you can bring a few extra bucks. Two mission trips are planned this summer. May 29- June 1 there will be five youth and two sponsors headed to Shiloh Ranch (north of Solomon, KS) to help them prepare for the summer season of working with children and youth. July 29-August 3 will have six youth and one (maybe two?) sponsor(s) going to Kansas City, KS to work in the inner-city through YouthWorks. We are still in need of about $1000 to fund this year s missions. Three fundraisers will be held. Saturday, June 9 th the youth will serve a dinner for the Health Ministries Clinic. Sunday, July 8 th at 6:30 p.m. we will have a Dinner and Auction in Fellowship Hall. A meal will be served, followed by a sharing time from the Shiloh missions team. Then we will hold a two-part auction Hands for Hire and Sweets for Sale. The sweets would be donated desserts that you can bid on and purchase. If you would like to donate a dessert, please let Jessica know. All donations are welcome. The youth will then be available for bidding, for a four-hour time block, to come work for you. The final fundraiser will be a Wendy s night on Monday, July 23 rd from 5:00-8:00 p.m. 20% of all revenue taken in during that time will be donated to the youth missions fund. Come on out and have dinner that evening. Thank you for your support of youth missions! Other special events are planned for this summer. Saturday, June 30 th we will join other Newton UMC youth groups for an outing to play paintball in Wichita. The cost is $25 per person. Sign up by June 10 th. Wednesday, July 18 th will be a late night movie. More details to come. Saturday, August 11 th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. will be a Back-to-School party, with swimming at the city pool and games in the park. Now is the time to start collecting items for next year s This n That Sale. You will be able to drop off donations to us starting in August. 5 CPR Update Review CPR and learn what s new. The free update class is Wednesday, June 13 th, from 5:00-5:30 pm in Fellowship Hall. MISSION COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES also given in the name of THUMC. The kits were delivered by a district pastor that was going to UMCOR. Lastly, but not least, the committee has served two WOW meals since the first of January. One of our members saw a need and said, Let s sign up for two meals. More updates next month! Do you know how the Missions Committee at Trinity Heights is working in the name of the Church? Over the next few issues of the Trinitarian we hope to bring you up to date on the activities of the committee. First, we work with the food collection each month. Paper Products was the focus for the May collection and the June collection focus will be cereal or any non perishable food item you wish to contribute. Your donations are very much appreciated as they all go to a very worthwhile cause. Your donations may be placed in the grocery cart in the main hallway or on the collection table in the North Hall near Fellowship Hall. The monthly collections and deliveries alternate between Salvation Army and Agape. If you are interested in delivering a month s collection, please give us a call, all help is appreciated. Deliveries are made at the end of the month. Gerald and Phyllis Greene, Second, we partner with a church in Zimbabwe along with other churches in our district. We had visitors from Zimbabwe recently. They were in the United States for the General Conference of the UMC held in Tampa, Florida and came to our district following the conference. We helped plan and carry out a gathering at First UMC on the evening of May 6, at which time we were able to meet and visit our Zimbabwe guests. We want to thank those that attended the gathering and for the wonderful array of salads that were brought to share. Thank You very much! Eli & Maxine Bontrager hosted one guest, Vienna Mutezo for the evening. Thank You! Third, the conference has a Kansas hunger program we were asked to participate in One Field One Round. The committee pledged $150 to this conference project last year and has done so again this year. Fourth, a therapeutic sand box table was made and presented to Youthville last fall. This table is used to help establish communication skills with the children. Since the local unit of Youthville is closed except for one group the table is being used at another location.
