I was, at first, stumped at how to write an article that would somehow connect both Election Day and Thanksgiving. Sure, there s the obvious connection of thankfulness for the election commercials and phone calls ending! Thanksgiving brings to mind appreciation for blessings, gathering of family and friends, and lots of great food! Election Day, on the other hand, carries images of repetitive and negative ads, partisanship and division. My thoughts of Election Day are not nearly as positive as those around Thanksgiving! Being able to elect our leaders is a right many have fought for us to have. Those ads, despite how annoying, would be censored and outlawed in some other countries. In fact, even expressing an opinion contrary to the government could be punishable. Many only dream of having the opportunity we often take for granted that first Tuesday in November. Yes, we truly should be thankful for Election Day. Many often approach Thanksgiving in a similar way. We feel anxious about all the planning needed to get everyone together or to see the rest of the family. Tending to details drains our energy and we don t even want to think about the arguing or bantering that may break out when certain family members are forced to share the same space for too long. We forget to approach the day with thankful hearts, grateful for the many blessings we have. I invite you to enter November this year seeking to see all the reasons God gives us to be thankful. When we feel tired or annoyed or less than eager to face the day, let s pause to look for the good. It is there! As we say, God is good! All the time! Look for it and be thankful! What better way could there be to help see the good God offers and to express our thankfulness to God, than to worship God? Weekly Flower Calendar The Weekly Flower Calendar for altar flowers has been renewed. If you wish to provide flowers for special occasions or to glorify God on Sunday mornings, notify Susan by Wednesday of the message for the bulletin on Sunday morning. Because the church is closed Friday and Saturday, you will need to bring the flowers and place them on the altar Sunday morning. More than one arrangement can be used if two individuals want the same Sunday. A sign-up paper will be on the bulletin board at the mission center. Any questions, ask Barb Tignor at We continue to collect cans of tuna or jars of peanut butter.oh who are we kidding, we will take anything, to the food pantry at Eastside Community Ministry. Come fill the cart on Sunday, November 1 during Holy Communion. Thank you for your continued help in this ministry. Please remember to set your clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 1st. I want to thank everyone that sent cards, offered prayers, made calls and sent flowers to me during my recent surgery. I truly appreciate all. Your prayers kept me going. God is good! You are our Wisdom and our Strength. Lord, you moved upon men to establish this great nation. You stirred men to hope and to dream for a land of freedom. We praise you for this great nation. Lord, you have inspired many of our best and brightest to volunteer to proudly stand and defend our beloved country. You have given us brave and loyal men and women who have steadfastly served in their chosen branch of our military. We gather today to remember our military personnel. We acknowledge that their service enables us to walk as free men and women in this great land. Lord, today we seek to honor your sons and daughters who have served or who are serving our country. We are reminded that because of their service we can live in safety. We ask that you abundantly bless those who have previously served. May their service time be rewarded in every way. May they gain earthly and heavenly blessings from their unselfish love of country. May each of our veterans feel honored not just today but every day. We pray these things in Jesus' name, Amen

Mother Angelica Operation Christmas Child Eventide Circle is inviting each of you to fill a shoebox for a child. Information on how to pack your shoebox will be on the missions table across from the church office. A few suggestions for the boxes might be: gloves, shoelaces, solar-powered flashlights, harmonicas, dental floss, lip balm, compass, tape measure and socks. There will also be a list of many more suggestions available. You may use a regular shoebox with the lid and box wrapped separately or plastic shoeboxes. We will collect the filled boxes until November 8th. We need volunteers to help cover the Nursery the 4th Sunday of each month. Please let Barb Wolfe know if you would able to help with this important ministry. A Child s Thanksgiving Prayer On Thanksgiving Day, I thank God for my family and my sister. I thank God for the rain and the sun. I thank God for my Teddy Bear. I thank God for my teachers and for my friends. I thank you, God, for life and love. On Thanksgiving Day, I pray for the children who are hungry, who have no parents, and no loving church. I pray that God will spend Thanksgiving with them. 7 Charge Conference P A G E 7 The United Methodist Church is a connectional system. No local church exists independently, but all are linked and connected in a system of mutual support and accountability through district, annual conference, jurisdictional conference, and general conference. According to the laws of the United Methodist Church as set forth in The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church (2012), at the local church level, the charge conference is the basic unit in the connectional system. You are invited to join us on Sunday, November 15 for our Charge Conference to be held at Central Trinity United Methodist Church. Staff Parish Relations Committee is asked to attend at 6:15 PM with Worship at 7:00 PM. Holiday Poinsettias: Red, White, Jingle Bell and Pink poinsettias will be used to enhance our worship experience this Christmas season. The cost is only $8.00 per plant. Sleeves will be provided to cover the plant for transporting home following the worship service on December 24th. All orders, with payment, must be in the church office no later than Sunday, December 6th. Order early to assure your color preference. Poinsettias will be listed in the Christmas Eve Bulletin. Watch for order form in upcoming bulletins. You can call the church office for more information at As we are fed, so we reach out to feed others We continue our challenge to collect items for the food pantry at Eastside Community Ministries. We will be collecting jars of Peanut Butter or cans of Tuna (your choice) on Sunday, November 1. We will start collecting hats, scarves, gloves and mittens for the Free Store beginning in November. They are always so grateful for the donations that we send. Please leave your items in the wash tub and Susan will deliver weekly. Thanking you in advance for your kindness.

Enjoy a Warm Lunch with New Hope Circle On Sunday, November 22 nd, stay after the service and join us for lunch in the fellowship hall. The New Hope Circle will contribute all donations to the Faith United Methodist Church Boiler Replacement fund. On the menu is chicken and noodles, chili soup, corn muffins, hot buttered rolls and brownies. After the lunch, join us for the hanging of the greens as circle members will be decorating the church to celebrate the start of Advent. You are welcome to stay and help!
