1 November 13, 2015 V P C N e w s VERSAILLES PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Versailles Presbyterian Church 130 N Main Street Versailles, KY office@vpc1.org Read for this Sunday: Luke 20:20-26 Versailles Presbyterian Church is a Safe Child congregation. We follow practices and procedures that maximize the safety and well-being of children and youth while they are in our care. Sign up for s from The Transylvania Presbytery and keep up with current events: Why I Love My Church This year's stewardship campaign kicked off last Sunday, November 8. The theme for this year's campaign is "Why I love this church?". The simple answer to this theme motivates many of us to donate our time, talents, and money to the church. Each Sunday during the stewardship campaign, we will have individuals from the congregation share why they love VPC. Commitment Cards/brochures were mailed last week and will be collected with the offering on Commitment Sunday, November 22. Extra Commitment Cards/ brochures will be available. If you are unable to attend on November 22, please return your card to the office. Please contact a member of the Finance and Stewardship Committee with any questions. The Committee thanks each of you for your thoughtful and prayerful commitment consideration. ~ ~ ~ This church accepts me as I am. There are many sides to my life. Sometimes, I am very involved and active in church events, and other times, I am unable to give of my time and effort. I am always made to feel welcomed and appreciated regardless of how much time I am able to devote. What a comfort that is. I never feel I am being judged. ~ Christine O Brien ~ ~ ~ The people at VPC are friendly and sincerely care about one another. There is so much cooperation for whatever needs to be done. People just step in and get it done. The ministers (Melissa and Darryl) have been/are a positive for the church. ~Ann Galvin The VPC Home Business Christmas Mart is tomorrow, November 14, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. We have 20+ vendors this year come do some Christmas shopping and support our town and small businesses! VPC will offer a special Sunday School series during Advent. Darryl Baker, Interim Pastor, will lead a class for adults on The Journey: Walking the Road to Bethlehem. The Journey combines historical information and archaeology with Adam Hamilton s thoughtful, conversational teaching style to give you a new perspective on the story of Mary and Joseph s journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem. It was filmed on location in the Holy Land. Each exciting and informative session contains minute video vignettes of pastor and best-selling author Adam Hamilton retracing the actual path of Mary and Joseph s journey to Bethlehem. The video discussion class begins on November 29 from 9-9:45 and will take place in the Large Conference room off the Fellowship Hall. This Advent class runs from November 29 December 20, Come to one! Come to all! Grab a cup of coffee or juice and a donut or bagel and join us in this journey together. VPC Relay for Life Fundraiser As part of the Downtown Christmas Open House on November 14 & 15, there will be a Christmas Tree Village at Thoroughbred Square (in the old Craigs Shoe Store). VPC is sponsoring a tree for bids and all proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society s Relay for Life. Bids for the trees will close at 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 15. VPC will also have a Shop for Pop (and Mom) craft project and shopping opportunity for kids in the Fellowship Hall on November 14, in conjunction with VPC s Christmas Mart. Proceeds from this will also go to the ACS Relay for Life.

3 How much does it cost to provide ONE backpack per week? Have you ever wondered how much is costs to provide food for one child through the Backpack Program? For less than $6 per week, you can provide a child with food for a weekend. VPC provides food for 50 children per week. Backpack Items Fruit cup 0.44 x 2 = $0.88 Applesauce x 2 = $0.56 Juice 0.17 x 2 = $0.34 Mac n cheese 0.35 x 2 = $0.70 Cup of soup 0.30 x 1 - $0.30 Ramen noodles 0.19 x 2 = $0.38 Granola bars 0.18 x 1 = $0.18 Pop tarts 0.36 x 1 = $0.36 Oatmeal 0.19 x 1 = $0.19 Pudding 0.21 x 1 = $0.21 Peanut butter crackers 0.13 x 1 = $0.13 Cereal 0.30 x 1 = $0.31 Milk - $1.00 x 1 = $1.00 Total for one backpack = $5.53 Total for one week (50 backpacks) = $ Total for one month (50 backpacks) = $1, How can you help? Purchase the items needed to go in the backpacks (see list in the related article). You can also contribute financially. Another idea make a donation to the Backpack Program in honor or in memory of someone. Let them know that through this donation, children will not go hungry. This would make a wonderful Christmas gift! If you make a donation in memory or in honor of someone, VPC can provide you with a letter to share with your them. Have questions? Need more information?
