1 Parchment United Methodist Church 225 Glendale Blvd. Parchment, MI PUMC Connections Volume 23, Issue 11 From the desk of Reverend Thomas A. Davenport What is HOPE? For many people, HOPE is defined as a wish, or a possibility of something good in the future. This is not what the Bible means by hope. The biblical definition of hope is "confident expectation. Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 For many, HOPE is a deep and abiding trust in God for things that we cannot yet see! And yet, we know that God is with us all the way! Our Vision Planning Sessions over the past year have come up with the idea that Parchment United Methodist Church is able to offer HOPE to the world as well as our community! Come as you are! You are Welcome, you are Loved, and we offer HOPE! (Hope that looks like this ) Helping others Open Hands Prayerful Church Office: Office Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday parchmentumc@tds.net OR pastorthomm@hotmail.com Deadline for December Issue: Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018 E xcitement In the next few weeks, we want to talk and pray, and understand how this new vision might be lived out in the life of Parchment UMC. For as one of our group said, if it is just words and not actions, it will not mean anything. Hope comes with the courage to be bold! Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, 2 Corinthians 3:12. To be very forward with our hospitality, and welcome. To give generously to develop a new community, such as we had in the 1960 s! And it will take us all catching the vision! Pastor Thom Page 1

First and foremost, we want to thank you for your contributions and help in preparing for the bazaar; we couldn t do it without you. Items to sell can be dropped off at the church on Thursday or Friday, November 8-9, between 10:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. If you have a special request regarding set up and have not contacted a bazaar committee member yet, please do so right away so every effort can be made to honor your request. Vendors this year include Pampered Chef, Premier Jewelry, and It Works. We re still hoping to secure a couple of additional vendors. Complimentary coffee and donuts will be available and please plan to stay for a delicious lunch! The sale is on Saturday, November 10 from 9:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. If you use Facebook or another social media, please post a notice about the Holiday Bazaar the more advertising the better! While it s nice to consolidate gifts on a table as we get into the final hour of the bazaar, please remember that we are open for sales through 2:00 p.m. and we want to make our last minute shoppers feel just as important as the early bird shoppers. See you there! You have the opportunity to provide poinsettias to help beautify the sanctuary for Christmas in honor or memory of loved ones/friends. Order forms will be available 3 Sundays beginning November 11. The price is $7 per plant and must accompany order forms. A BIG thank you goes out to: Joy & Doyle Sandefur Helen Norris & Donna Heighton Marti Poolman & Barb Glennon Carol Hilboldt Elyse Connors & Pat Davenport for the scrumptious goodies for Coffee, Tea & Conversation after worship this past month!!! If you would like to provide treats on Sundays, sign up on the kitchen clipboard! The Annual United Methodist Men s Club Nut & Candy Sale will begin November 10 at the Holiday Bazaar! The Parchment UMM have been selling nuts for decades! We sell Premium quality nuts for baking and snacking at reasonable prices. You cannot find nuts and snacks of this quality and size anywhere! 5 Community Thanks Dinner, November 18, 2018 at 1:00 pm This Photo by This Thanksgiving Season, we are grateful for so much! We live in a wonderful community, and we are blessed by God! This year, we want to share our joy with our neighbors! On Sunday afternoon, we are inviting 125 of our neighbors in the community for a free dinner. (everyone does need a ticket, however). In order to make this happen, we have formed several teams. Publicity, Setup, Parking greeters, Kitchen, Serving Table, Clean up, Desserts, and Table host/ess. Our team leaders are recruiting team members for this wonderful day! This is a gift to the community, and a day to welcome our neighbors. We know that for some, this is their regular Thanksgiving Dinner. We need you! Perhaps you can be a table host, or a parking lot greeter? We need about 16 pies or cakes. Everyone who helps will have a place at the table also! This is a great opportunity for every member to help out in big and small ways. Every hand is needed. We want to say to our neighbors, thanks for being part of our community! Pastor Thom Trunk or Treat 2018 Page 5
