Mark: If you were unable to come to Mass last weekend, you may be wondering what is happening in the ves bule of the church. Normally a large pain ng of the Holy Spirit hangs on the back wall, but that is temporarily gone. In its place is a large blue triptych that bears resemblance to a stained glass window. Currently it is covered with orange and yellow s cky notes of which there are so many they have spilled onto the wall itself. What you are looking at is our Summer Prayer Wall. This summer we are plan ng seeds, tending them, and wai ng for the harvest God brings. Everyone is welcome to par cipate. Plan ng: Throughout the summer you are invited to plant seeds by pos ng your prayer needs anonymously. On the table against the wall you will find pens and s cky notes with which to write and post your prayer requests. Tending: You are invited to look over the other prayer requests on the wall. If you find one or more that touches your heart, moves your spirit, or catches your a en on please make that inten on part of your prayer life. Maybe you can feature it as part of your 10 minutes of prayer each day that we as a community have been striving for since early December. Please do not take the s cky note. Leave it on the wall so that others may see and pray for the inten on as well. Rather, on the table you will find prayer cards. Take a prayer card and, on the back of it, copy the inten on or inten ons you have been lead to include in your prayer. Keep these inten ons, the inten ons of your fellow parishioners, in your daily prayer throughout the summer. Harves ng: If you have placed a prayer request on the prayer wall, wait for God s answer to your prayer. When you have received an answer to your prayer and your prayer has been resolved, remove your prayer request from the wall and move it to the second large blue triptych stained glass window on the wall in front of the reconcilia on room. On that wall we will keep all the fulfilled prayers and have a visual reminder of both the power of prayer and God s faithfulness to His people. As I read all the various prayer request posted from last weekend I no ced there were some requests with very clear end points such as, For a safe summer trip to Disneyworld, or For my father s medical procedure on June 25. Other prayers were of the sort that are much broader or con nuous, such as That all Jews, Chris ans and Muslims realize they have more in common than they have different, or That everyone in the world be healthy. We may create a third wall on which to post con nuous and ongoing prayer needs which are very important, but have no easily iden fiable point of conclusion. The Summer Prayer Wall will remain in place for the next three months. Any me you are at church you are welcome to post prayers to the wall, and take requests to pray for in your prayer me. We will plant the seeds, and tend them gently with our prayers, allowing God to bring the harvest in His me.

Infant Pre-Bap sm Class for Parents & Godparents The next Pre-Bap sm Class for parents and godparents will be on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 1PM in the church. If you have a child from infant to age six that you wish to have bap zed here at St. Charles, this is the first step in the process. If your chosen godparents live in the Bay Area we ask that they a end also. You should be a registered member of the parish for a minimum of 90 days, and worshipping with us on a regular basis. Please contact the office at x101 to register for the class. Deadline to register is July 18th. If you are planning to be a godparent for a friend or family member s child, be sure to check and see if a class is required by that parish, and if so, then you can register to a end, also. Our next class a er this one will likely not be un l mid-fall. July 2nd Collec on Info In July we will have two separate 2nd Collec ons that we would like to give you informa on about. On the weekend of June 30/July 1 we will take the Peter s Pence Collec on for the Holy Father. This provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including vic ms of war, oppression, and natural disasters. For more informa on, visit On the weekend of July 14/15, Fr. Denis O Brien S.A.C. will visit our parish to preside and speak at all Masses about the missionary work of the Irish Pallo ne Fathers in Tanzania, Kenya and Colombia. He has been assigned as our speaker for 2018 as a representa ve of the Mission Coop Plan the diocese supports. Please be generous in your support of their work of evangeliza on and development in those struggling countries. Currently, Father Denis serves in Columbia. The Mass honors the memory of our loved ones who have passed before us. Bring a small framed photo of your loved ones to place before the altar during Mass. The Ritual of Remembrance invites you to come with a rose, light a candle, and speak about the people we are remembering, if we wish. Roses and candles are provided. The Mass is offered by the Grief Support Ministry of St. Charles and St. Michael. All are welcome. Retreat Honoring the Feast Day of St. Benedict Senior Singles The Senior Singles group will be mee ng the first Friday evening of the month for dinner. In 2015 and 2016 Deacon Pat and his family lived in the mountains of northern Guatemala so serve as full- me Catholic missionaries spreading the good news of the Catholic faith to the local Mayan Indians.
