4 The Baptism of the Lord January 13, 2019 Kid s Healthy Minds Ini a ve A Collabora ve Educa on Session FR. PHIL Reflec ons for the Bap sm of the Lord This is a very special me when we come to see that Jesus is God who has become man. Jesus has entered human life because God loves each one of us so very much. In Jesus being bap zed by John in the Jordan River He would formally iden fy Himself with all people who are searching for God and it was His desire to save all such people. This was how the public life of Jesus began. This was different from the sacramental Bap sm that each of us has received. Through Bap sm we became sons and daughters of the Lord. By virtue of Bap sm we have a special rela onship with God and God has a special rela onship with us. By virtue of Bap sm each of us is called to witness to the mercy of God. We are called by name to listen to Jesus and witness Him by our lives. Are we mindful of how we live our Bap smal promises? As followers of Jesus how sensi ve are we to the needs of others? As followers of Jesus we are called to learn from Jesus and strive to follow His behavior. Would God be pleased with our behavior and who we are? Holy Hour for Life Sunday January 20 th at 3 P.M. This Holy Hour for Life coordinated by the Deacons for Life is co-sponsored by St. Bernade e and St. Mary Parishes and will be held at 3P.M. at St. Bernade e on this day in union with other parishes in the Archdiocese. We know in our hearts and believe that all people are made in the very image and likeness of God. God has a plan for each one of us. We pray for those who do not appreciate or celebrate the dignity of human life. This is an important me and spiritual event for all who wish and pray for peace and greater respect for all of life. The Kids Healthy Minds Ini a ve (KHMI) is an innova ve mental health awareness and community educa on program offered across the Archdiocese of Boston in partnership with mental health experts from Franciscan Children's. The prevalence of youth mental illness is staggering. In the US, 20% of children and adolescents have mental health diagnosis. Failure to detect and treat mental illness early can have a significant impact on a child's poten al and success later in life. Parishioners and community members who par cipate in a KHMI educa on session will gain an understanding of the early warning signs of mental illness, common youth diagnoses and ps for how to eliminate the s gma that is o en associated with mental illness and its treatments. Franciscan Children's will provide an educa on session for the St. Bernade e/st. Mary Collabora ve on Sunday January 20 th at St. Mary s Church Hall at 2 pm. Please join our faith community to learn about this crucial ini a ve and what steps we can take together to support our youth and their families who are challenged by mental illness. Last September, some of our staff members a ending an Archdiocesan presenta on by the Kids Healthy Minds Ini a ve. A brochure was distributed called, What I Wish I Knew! It included a true story of one family who overcame mental illness for their adolescent. Inside the brochure was an excellent list of warning signs including mental health warning signs in young children and healthy habits for teens. If you have children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews or children you are close too, we highly recommend this workshop on the 20 th. 4
