2 A warm and loving welcome to everyone as we gather on this God s holy day to worship Him. A special welcome to all of our guests and visitors we are glad you have joined us! Pastor Chad will be leading us and bringing the Word in both our worship services today. This morning we continue the series on Who We Are and Our Commitments to discover what it means to be Christ s Church today. This evening Pastor Chad will continue with the Heidelberg Catechism series with Lord s Day 6. This is the day that the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it! 12 OUR CHURCH FAMILY Dewey Westra (Royal Park Atrium); Dirk Hollebeek (home) has been diagnosed with Graft vs. Host Disease. Medications are being adjusted as needed. Pray for continued recovery and good health for Dirk. Chet Dreyer is scheduled for surgery on December 10. Pray for patience as he awaits that needed procedure. Brian Knot has been receiving treatment for cancer in his eye, but the side effects will be a gradual loss of vision in that eye. Good reports have proven that no evidence of the cancer has spread. Praise God and pray that He holds Brian and his family through this. Lois Nienhuis underwent successful hip replacement surgery on Monday and is home now. Pray for a full recovery for her. Hermina Nyhof underwent a procedure to remove the growth from her lip. Pray for good results and that no further treatment is necessary. Dorothy Zoerman was able to return home from the hospital on Tuesday. Pray for continued healing and renewed strength for her. Bob Sluiter was admitted to Holland Hospital on Monday with extreme weakness and possible dehydration. Pray for Bob as he recovers from those difficulties. John Zylstra is recovering at home from oral surgery and Gail Zylstra will undergo stress tests for her heart issues on Thursday, October 18. Pray for healing for John and good results for Gail. Also, continue to lift Jett Ellerbroek up in prayer as well. Hugh Slenk leaves for Texas this Saturday to serve with World Renew for disaster relief. Pray for safe travels and prayer for the entire team to give the help that is needed. We offer our sincere Christian sympathy to Rich and Mary Cory in the passing of their brother-in-law, Bill Faley, in Ohio following a long battle with cancer. May the God of peace and comfort sustain you in your loss and sadness. Sympathy also to Ivan and Ruth Brand in the passing of Ivan s mother in Pella Iowa. Pray for the Brand family through this time of mourning and loss. Our Christian sympathy to Nate and Kristen Schierbeek in the passing of Kristen s Grandfather Ray Vanden Akker (90) last Sunday. May God give them, and their family, peace and comfort in their time of loss. Congratulations to Colin and Megan (Busscher) Staat who were united in marriage on September 28 at Graafschap Christian Reformed Church. May God fill this new home with His love and joy and grant many years of happiness. 11

REMINDER: New members are encouraged to have your pictures taken at De Vries Studio in Zeeland for the church pictorial directory. 15 GENERAL ANNOUCEMENTS MARK YOUR CALENDARS! The annual fundraising dinner for Right to Life of Michigan will be on Tuesday, October 23, at The Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville. Guest Speakers: Alan and Lisa Robertson of Duck Dynasty. Two tables are reserved to fill and Emily Bouwman is inviting you to join her. Please call Emily at for more information or to reserve your spot. The ANNUAL MITTEN-PLUS DRIVE is coming soon! This year we are celebrating our 35th anniversary. In these past years we have collected and distributed over 56,000 items and we hope to top the 60,000 mark this year. Items needed: mittens, gloves, scarves, hats, slippers, sweaters, etc. in all sizes for children and adults. All items must be new; they can be handmade, machine made or purchased. CELEBRATE LIFE ANNUAL HOLIDAY AUCTION will be held on Thursday, November 29, from 4 8 p.m. with dinner served at 5:30 p.m. Donations are being taken until October 27. Again, if you need more information, contact Emily Bouwman. REFORMATION DAY 400th Anniversary of the Synod of Dort. Don Sinnema will present (in costume) the history and significance of this gathering and the Canons that endure. Pastor Chad Steenwyk will respond with contemporary use of the Canons in our churches. 14

16 YOUTH CORNER October 14, 2018 Children's Worship Children ages 3 & 4 are dismissed during morning worship to the Children s Center downstairs for an age-appropriate time of worship together. Parents, please pick your child up at the Children s Center immediately following morning worship. Today s Teacher and Helper: Carol Van Dyke and Jodi Bruinsma Sunday School for ages 4 through 5th grade will meet today. Children gather in the Children s Center downstairs immediately following morning worship and are dismissed at 11:45 a.m. from their classrooms. Catechism for grades 6th-12th will meet this morning from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. in their various assigned rooms in the Ministry Center. The 6th and 7th grade Catechism class is reminded that they will meet in the GEMS craft room upstairs in the Ministry Center. CADETS: Cadets will meet on October 17 for a regular meeting from 6:30 8:15 p.m. downstairs in the Ministry Center. GEMS: The GEMS will meet for a regular meeting on Wednesday as well from 6:30 8:15 p.m. The girls and their leaders meet upstairs in the Ministry Center.
