3 MORNING WORSHIP PRELUDE WELCOME CALL TO WORSHIP and LIGHTING OF THE THIRD ADVENT CANDLE LEADER: As we light the third candle of Advent, reflect on Jesus, the Everlasting Father. PEOPLE: AS A FATHER HAS COMPASSION ON HIS CHILDREN, SO THE LORD HAS COMPASSION ON THOSE WHO FEAR HIM. (Psalm 103:13) LEADER: As Everlasting Father, Jesus is the Good Shepherd. PEOPLE: HE TENDS HIS FLOCK LIKE A SHPHERD; HE GATHERS THE LAMBS IN HIS ARMS AND CARRIES THEM CLOSE TO HIS HEART; HE GENTLY LEADS THOSE THAT HAVE YOUNG. (Isaiah 40:11) LEADER: We celebrate the coming of One Who is the first born of all creation and the perfect image of our Father in Heaven. PEOPLE: PRAISE BE TO THE LORD, THE GOD OF ISRAEL, FROM EVERLASTING TO EVERLASTING. LET ALL THE PEOPLE SAY AMEN! PRAISE THE LORD! (Psalm 106:48) *HYMN: Savior of the Nations, Come - Psalter Hymnal #336 (stanzas 1, 4-7) *GOD S GREETING PASTOR: Grace, mercy and peace to you, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. PEOPLE: AMEN! 2
4 CALL TO CONFESSION from Isaiah 64:5-6 PASTOR: Behold, you were angry, and we sinned; PEOPLE: IN OUR SINS WE HAVE BEEN A LONG TIME, AND SHALL WE BE SAVED? PASTOR: We have all become like one who is unclean, PEOPLE: AND ALL OUR RIGHTEOUS DEEDS ARE LIKE A POLLUTED GARMENT. PASTOR: We all fade like a leaf, PEOPLE: AND OUR INIQUITIES, LIKE THE WIND, TAKE US AWAY. CONFESSION OF SIN (in unison) STIR UP YOUR POWER, O LORD, AND WITH GREAT MIGHT COME AMONG US; AND BECAUSE WE ARE SORELY HINDERED BY OUR SINS, LET YOUR BOUNTIFUL GRACE AND MERCY SPEEDILY HELP AND DELIVER US; THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD, TO WHOM, WITH YOU AND THE HOLY SPIRIT, BE HONOR AND GLORY, NOW AND FOR EVER. AMEN. ASSURANCE OF PARDON from Galatians 4:4-5 PASTOR: But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, PEOPLE: TO REDEEM THOSE WHO WERE UNDER THE LAW, SO THAT WE MIGHT RECEIVE ADOPTION AS SONS. PASTOR: Believe this Good News: In Jesus Christ our sins are forgiven, and we are redeemed and adopted children. PEOPLE: THANKS BE TO GOD! AMEN. 3
5 CONFESSION OF FAITH The Apostles Creed (in unison) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit. I believe a holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. AMEN. MINISTRY OF MUSIC: Bethlehem Light O Little Town of Bethlehem arr. by Joseph M. Martin O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep, the silent stars go by. Yet in they dark street shineth the everlasting Light. The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight, are met in thee tonight. For Christ is born of Mary, and gathered all above. While mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wond ring love. O morning stars, together, proclaim the holy birth and praises sing to God the King, and peace to all on earth! How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is given! So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His heaven. No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sin, where meek souls will receive Him, still the dear Christ enters in. O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray. Cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell. O come to us, abide with us, our Lord, Emmanuel! Our Lord Emmanuel! CCLI #
