Note that there are two glasses in the center of each tray with diluted wine. Hearing assistance units are available from ushers. ABOUT THE LORD S SUPPER: Our congregation is a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, a family of congregations who pledge themselves to teach and to believe the same doctrines. We invite those persons who are members in good standing of a congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod or of a church in fellowship with the LCMS to receive the sacrament. We want to express our sincere welcome to guests and to assure them that it is in their spiritual interest that we practice closed communion. OUR CONGREGATIONAL FAMILY The altar flowers are given by Richard & Leona in celebration of their 54 th wedding anniversary. There will be no Wednesday service the day before. LWML will meet on Monday, January 17 th at 6:30pm in the fellowship hall. Please join us for a regular meeting and participating in a great Bible study. Refreshments will be served. Remember: LWML is helping the Food Pantry by having each member/guest bring a donation of food or cash for the food pantry to each meeting.

(canned vegetables & fruit, canned tuna, soups-no creamed soups, peanut butter, jelly, applesauce, jello, pasta & sauce) 2011 Envelopes Please stop by the table in the hallway to pick up your 2011 offering envelopes. EDUCATION HOUR TODAY Adult Bible Class led by Pastor Caithamer, fellowship hall Sunday School 3 year olds through high school will meet in the Sanctuary for opening. The Board of Education will be taking down the Christmas decorations on Friday, January 7, at 6:30pm. All are welcome to come and help. All LYF Groups will be bowling at the Illini Union from 3:00pm to 5:00pm on January 9 th. 3:00pm to 3:30pm your LYF guard will lead your group in devotion. 3:30pm to 5:00pm we will be bowling. 5 LEARN BY HEART THE FAMILY ALTAR The families of St. John are encouraged to learn these words from the Small Catechism by heart this week: Lord s Prayer The Fourth Petition - Give us this day our daily bread. What does this mean? God certainly gives daily bread to everyone without our prayers, even to all evil people, but we pray in this petition that God would lead us to realize this and to receive our daily bread with thanksgiving. What is meant by daily bread? Daily bread includes everything that has to do with the support and needs of the body, such as food, drink, clothing, shoes, house, home, land, animals, money, goods, a devout husband or wife, devout children, devout workers, devout and faithful rulers, good government, good weather, peace, health, self-control, good reputation, good friends, faithful neighbors, and the like. Bible Passage: For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.
