NOVEMBER 20, 2016 SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING Pastor s Message: Today we end the Liturgical year with the celebration of the Solemnity of Jesus Christ the King.

It is from the Cross that Jesus mounts his throne as King of the universe when he humbles himself to save us from sin and death.

2 NOVEMBER 20, 2016 SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING Pastor s Message: Today we end the Liturgical year with the celebration of the Solemnity of Jesus Christ the King. It may seem odd to hear the story of the crucifixion on this feast that celebrates the Lord as King. It is from the Cross that Jesus mounts his throne as King of the universe when he humbles himself to save us from sin and death. Today as we acclaim Christ as our King, we cannot forget that like him we also need to humble ourselves to his Kingly rule. For to say Jesus is King of our lives and hearts should be so much more than simple words. It is a profession of action that comes from letting the Lord lead, guide, and direct our lives. To allow this to happen, we have to allow the Lord to lead rather than ourselves; follow His guidance rather than our desires; and allow Jesus to direct us rather than calling the shots ourselves. This profession of action is how we, like the Good Thief on the Cross, ask Jesus to remember us in His Kingdom and find our place with him in paradise. A very special thanks to the members of the Sodality, the Knights, and the volunteers who helped with the church cleaning day at St. Augustine. Thank you for all your of hard work to clean the church. Also, congratulations to all of our children who celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time last week. May this first experience of God s love for them in the Sacrament help them to always remember what a wonderful and powerful gift of love God has given us in this Sacrament. Thursday the 24 th is Thanksgiving. Don t forget what this day is really all about in giving thanks to God by joining us for Mass on Wednesday, Nov. 23 rd at 7pm at St. Augustine and Thursday, Nov. 24 th at 10 am at Ascension. Please pray for all our faithful departed, especially Mary Cardwell & Lolita Denny & Zora Schrieber May they rest in peace with the Risen Lord Jesus. Renovation of Ascension Church We signed a contract with the architect this week, so we are making progress and will now begin the bidding process. We do not have a final figure but the estimates are that we still need another $20-$30,000, so your continued generosity is still very important. Please remember that all gifts of $1000 or more will be remembered on the memorial plaque. The only item that is still available for memorialization is the Bell Carillon for $12,000. We have already received a few partial gifts towards this goal, so please see Fr. John if you are interested. The Bell Carillon is a computerized Bell system that will be added to the bells we already have to enable us to ring the Westminster chimes every 15 minutes, and strike the hours, and also play seasonal hymns prior to Mass and at the Angelus. It is available in the rear of church this weekend. Help the Homeless Christmas reminds us that our Savior came into this world as a homeless person. There was no room at the inn for Mary & Joseph. This Christmas, from December 19th to 26th, our parish will have the opportunity to make a home for the homeless at the Cold Weather Shelter at nearby St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church at nearby 8220 Old Montgomery Road.
