2 From the Desk of the Pastor I came across the following quote from St. John Paul II: What really matters in life is that we are loved by Christ and that we love Him in return. In comparison to the love of Jesus, everything else is secondary. And, without the love of Jesus, everything is useless. I like this quote a lot, especially as our parish cluster prepares for Totus Tuus and the Steubenville Youth Conference. Totus Tuus is happening this week at Immaculate Heart. Totus Tuus means totally Yours. This Latin name helps us to recall Mary s perfect response to God and hopefully inspires a similar response from us in relation to God. The kids this week will learn about the mysteries of the rosary and a portion of the Catechism. They will also have a lot of fun, with skits and games and of course the water fight. I did not put up much of a fight last year I was drenched! This year I plan to have a body guard, our summer seminarian, Kaleb Quast. I am happy to report that he knows karate. I do not think karate will help much in a water fight, but I am guessing he is quick, to help block water balloons. This is my hope! I was part of the first Totus Tuus team in the Diocese of Duluth in This year is the 10 year anniversary of Totus Tuus in our diocese. It was a fun summer and a blessed summer. It was a blessing to help lead young people to Christ. It was also an exhausting summer, going from one town to the next. If you meet some of the Totus Tuus team members, be sure to thank them for serving our diocese in this way. It will be a good week having the team here. The Steubenville Youth Conference will also be a great experience for our high school students. I will be accompanying our high school students to St. Louis, Missouri, with a few other priests from the diocese and youth ministers and other chaperones. The trip is July I have been to these conferences in prior years, and it is amazing to see young people open their hearts to the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the case, not only because of the talks and the Sacraments at the Conference, but also because our high school students will have the opportunity to encounter Christ through service work on the way to the Conference. We will be stopping in the Cities to make this a part of the trip. Thank you to all of you who help to make these experiences possible for our young people. Please pray for them, that they may know that they are loved by Christ and that they love Him in return. St. John Paul II, pray for them! May the peace of the Lord be with you always. Fr. As in years past, on the Wednesday of Totus Tuus week (this year June 20) at 5:00 pm, at Immaculate Heart, everyone is invited to a potluck supper. Bring a dish to share and come, enjoy and support the youth of our parish cluster. Teen Discipleship Nights in Duluth with Fr. Mike Schmitz will be held on July 19, 26, and August 2, beginning at 5:00 pm each night. The evenings include a cookout, talks from Fr. Mike, speedball and DQ. This event is for students in grades No need to register, just show up at the Newman Center (42 West St Marie Street, Duluth). If you need more info please contact Karen. Guys Dodgeball Night for students grades 7-12 will be held on July 19 at 5:30 pm at Immaculate Heart. All the guys from Crosby will once again join us for an evening that includes a KC barbecue, dodgeball, and more. A sign-up sheet is on the youth table in the Immaculate Heart narthex. Parish Faith Formation: FORMED Check out all the wonderful and informative materials that are available at the FORMED website at Use parish code cd2376 to access the materials. 24-hour Adoration is cancelled on June because of cleaning our heating ducts (postponed from a few weeks ago). Weekly Thursday/Friday 24-hour Adoration this summer in our cluster will take place until August 30/31 in Our Lady s Chapel at Immaculate Heart. Sign-up sheets for each week are on the tables in the narthex at Immaculate Heart. Please sign up if you would like a particular day and/or time. If you have any questions, please call Marilyn at the Immaculate Heart parish office. Guardians are needed for 24-Hour Adoration in July and August. Please stop in the narthex at Immaculate Heart and sign up for an hour of Adoration. Who does not benefit from time with Jesus, prayer, and peaceful silence?

3 Cluster and Area News An Emily Area Community Service informational event will be given at the United Methodist Church in Emily on Tuesday, June 19, from 3:00-4:30 pm. The event is entitled, Know Your Community Resources: Home Fire Safety and Emergency Services. Come and learn more about the steps and actions you should take to keep your home and person safe, and what to do in an emergency. This event is open to the public. The IHC CCW will again be hosting a Blood Drive on Wednesday, July 11, from noon to 6:00 pm, in the social hall at Immaculate Heart Church. As with most things, on-line registration is the preferred method to sign up and is now available. Have you signed up yet for your family portrait time for our 2018 cluster directory? Every family that participates gets a free portrait and directory. Sign up is available via each of our parish websites (click on the directory picture and follow the guides). If you don t have a computer or are not computer conversant, please call either parish office for help in signing up. If you are unable to make it to an available time at your home parish you can sign up for an available time at your sister parish (via their website). There are many discounts available for those who wish to purchase portraits in addition to receiving their free 8 x 10 and directory. We especially encourage our seasonal parishioners and friends to participate. We are all one family! See you soon! St. Francis Catholic School has an opening for a part time assistant Band Director. This person would assist our current Band Director, work directly with students in lessons, organize and assist as needed for concerts and practices. Music experience preferred. You can also find copies of the IHMessenger newsletter, the parish registration form and the lost and found at the kiosk. During the week of June there will be no daily 8:00 am Masses. All Masses will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart at 11:00 am each day with the students participating in Totus Tuus. Everyone is welcome to attend. The following week (June 25-28) there will be no daily Mass in the cluster. Daily Mass will resume on Friday, June 29, at 8:00 am at St. Emily s. During the month of May, $7, was given to the parish through electronic giving. Donations were given to the general fund, UCA, Home Missions, New Pathways, Endowment Fund, and a second collection. If you would like to simplify your giving, sign up for electronic giving! Visit our website at crosslakecatholic.com, click on Contribute, the Electronic Giving to create your secure account. You can change the amount and frequency of your donations at anytime. If you have questions or want some help in setting up On the weekend of August 11-12, we will have elections to the parish councils. You may nominate someone for either the Pastoral Council or the Finance Council. Please submit your nominations to the parish office prior to July 15. After that date, short biographical paragraphs about each candidate will be available for the elections! The Finance Council meets monthly on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:45 am and the Pastoral Council meets quarterly. Members nominated to the Finance Council must have a financial or business background. If you have any questions, please call Mary in the parish office. We are having a parish barbecue/picnic after Mass today, June 17. This is a parish celebration in honor of the Feastday of St. Emily and, happy coincidence, it is also Father s Day. The Knights of Columbus, Mary Queen of Peace Council, will be doing the cooking honors. Come and enjoy some family time together! The week of June there will be no daily Mass held at St. Emily s. That week all daily Masses will be held at Immaculate Heart at 11:00 am. Enjoy a time of worship with the young people of our parishes. The regular daily Mass schedule at St. Emily s resumes on Friday, June 29, at 8:00 am. The office will be closed on Tuesday, June 19. Sheets with our prayer list and a synopsis of the Sunday readings are available on the table at the back of the nave. A Reflection for 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time Each day we are planting seeds in our hearts and minds that will grow and bear fruit in the future. They will influence our behavior and affect those we come in contact with. What kind of seeds are you planting? Are you nurturing seeds of resentment or forgiveness of hate or love of discouragement or hope? They may be very small things; but, they establish ways of thinking and acting that affect how we respond to people and events in our lives. What kind of seeds are you nurturing in your heart.
