Through our labors, and guided by the Spirit, the Lord continues to bring creation to completion. God is not finished with us either. Through Jesus, our Savior, God labors to make us holy reflections of Christ s goodness and holiness. This work of the Lord, as the saying goes, is a labor of love. It is a labor in which we have all been chosen to participate. It is not always easy work to form ourselves and others into images of Christ. But, we believe this work, of building up the kingdom, is the foundation and reason for all our other work and labor. Thank you for all of your labors at Our Lady of Loretto. Only through your sacrifice and hard work are we able to fulfill our mission and bring the good news of Christ to our families and community. A Labor Day Prayer Creator God, Thank you for providing us with the gift to share our talents. Provide our community, our nation, and our world with fortitude to provide work for all which is decent and fair. Make us faithful stewards of your creation to enhance the human dignity of our global family. We ask this in the name of Jesus, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen That good news is that Christ makes a difference in our lives, because your willingness to labor for the Lord makes a difference. Only when we first take care of each other s earthly needs, can we bring the love of the Lord into the lives of our families and neighbors. Sincerely, Fr. Tom CHANGE OF HEART Why does Jesus say we must hate parents, spouses, and children to be his disciples? Scholars believe that Jesus was deliberately exaggerating to emphasize the point that human beings often cling to relationships and possessions, which come to occupy the place in their heart where God is meant to be, making true discipleship almost impossible. Think of these examples: the woman totally focused on her children, ignoring her husband; the man who spends evenings and weekends drinking; the hoarder, compensating for loss or lack of relationships. Such displacements, if hardened into habit, can keep people from a life with God. Attending Mass regularly, frequent prayer, and keeping the commandments are excellent habits, but do not bring us closer to God unless our hearts change to give God first place. This is true conversion sometimes a dramatic process but more often a deliberate day-to-day effort to reorder how we live. Jesus first, others next, yourself last, spells J-O-Y. Thanks to you, our parish and participants have earned a total of over $2,400 in profits this year. Please see the letter in today s bulletin for more details on how you can participate. Anniversary News and notes Congratulations to Mother McAuley H.S. They celebrated the 60th Anniversary of their school opening with a Mass on September 1st. The celebrant was the Most Reverend Blase Cupich. COURAGE The COURAGE Program is looking for golfers and sponsors for 15th Annual Golf Outing to be held on October 1st at Old Oak Country Club in Homer Glen. Proceeds will help fund the various programs offered to single, pregnant young women and their children. For information, call the COURAGE office at or Benefit A benefit For Mary s Angels is being held on Sunday, October 2nd, at 115 Bourbon Street, from 1-5 pm. The benefit is to assist the children of Mary Haubenreiser, a St. Gerald parishioner, who passed away Feb. 1st from breast cancer. Mary s children, 8 yr. old twins, Declan and Kenadie, are being raised by Mary s sister, Janet, and her husband, Brian. This benefit is to help assist the family with the twins future education. For information, contact Tim Pender, or visit, Bible Study will be held Tuesday mornings, beginning September 6th. The group will meet in the rectory following morning Mass.
