Hello Families! Our church has a very active prayer chain that receives many prayer requests each week. This is such an important part of our church and allows us as a church family to pray for each other. It came to me, literally in the middle of the night, that I should start a prayer chain for the children of our church. There are issues and losses that our children face which are very upsetting to them but these might not seem important enough to place on the church s prayer chain. By starting a prayer chain for our kids this will give you the opportunity to have other families pray together for these

8 requests. I am hoping that this will encourage your families to spend more time praying together and will also help the kids to start praying more on their own. If you are interested in participating in this prayer chain just me your desire to be a part of this ministry. All prayer requests will be sent to me at phoekstra@troyfumc.org and I will then forward to everyone on the chain. Please contact me with any questions you might have and feel free to share this with other families who might be interested in participating. Blessings, Miss Penny Chancel Choir From JUDAS MACCABEUS By Georg Frideric Handel Arranged by Hal H. Hopson Praise the Lord, Let songs of Joy break forth Sing alleluia, Praise His name forevermore. 11 IJM Weekly Prayer Requests Africa Please pray for our aftercare teams in Uganda as they empower widows to become strong and self-sufficient. IJM protects and defends widows whose homes and land have been violently stolen by greedy relatives or powerful neighbors. Once a woman is restored to her home, our social workers must help her restart her farm or small business, keep her children in school, and gain confidence after all the abuse she endured. Pray we could help these widows who are very poor and neglected find courage and stability as they learn to thrive again. Latin America Praise God for the conviction this week of a bar owner and hotel manager who were arrested last year for sexually exploiting at least 10 teenage girls out of their business on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic. The two criminals were each sentenced to three years in prison. While IJM is disappointed in the relatively light penalty, we praise God that justice was done in a difficult case. The criminals were politically well connected, making their case particularly tough. Please pray for the survivors as they continue to recover and build new lives. South Asia Please pray for safety and security for our teams as they travel throughout South Asia. A number of recent issues like rampant floods and political protests have made travel more difficult this year, particularly as our teams travel to out-of-reach places to investigate reports of slavery and trafficking. Pray for peace in the region and security for our staff as they try to protect the poor from violence every day. Southeast Asia Praise God for a new law in Thailand that will give more freedom to stateless people who are vulnerable and face a high risk of exploitation. IJM helps stateless hill tribe people who have lived in Thailand for generations, or are otherwise entitled to become full citizens, access that important right. A new law says that stateless people will now be able to travel freely in their province instead of being confined to their village. Praise God for the job and other opportunities this could bring while they wait, and pray that all of the pending citizenship applications are reviewed and processed swiftly.
