Then come journey with us starting today as we explore the ultimate gift at our contemporary worship First Place 9:30 or 10:45am. Christmas Caroling Next Sun, Dec 8, we will go Christmas Caroling for our Special Folks, something they always look forward to and thoroughly enjoy. We will meet in the Social room at 3pm, we will be divided into teams to be sent out. When we return we will enjoy pizza together. Please join us! Heart to Heart Holiday Cheese Spread Sale The Heart to Heart Retreat planning team is once again selling cheese spreads for the holidays. This year we are featuring a cheddar cheese ball and a cranberry cream cheese spread. Orders will be taken today, Dec 8, & 15 in the Gathering room and at First Place after all 4 church services. Pick-

4 up will take place at the same locations on Dec 15 & 22. Each 8-ounce cheese spread costs $6. Thank you in advance for your support! Altar Roses A white rose has been placed on the altar in memory of: Harold Wherry, who passed away Nov 24. He is a member of FUMC. Scott Dircksen, who passed away Nov 23. He is the brother of Dan Cockrell. Roses are courtesy of Baird Funeral Home and family members are welcome to take the rose. Racing for Hope on New Year's Day Registration for our 7th annual New Year's Day 5k is now open. Runners or walkers, fast or slow, everybody is welcome to participate and help raise awareness of human trafficking. Proceeds will benefit Dayton-area initiatives along with some global anti-trafficking programs. This race has been a successful fundraiser over the last few years, due to the support of the church, local businesses, and the community. Online Registration: Arrangements for Harold Wherry Visitation is today from 2-5pm at Baird Funeral Home. Memorial service tomorrow, Mon, Dec 2, at 10am in the Sanctuary. Christmas Eve Greeters & Ushers Needed Families or individuals are needed to serve as greeters / ushers for the traditional Christmas Eve services at 7, 9, and 11. The responsibilities include welcoming our guests, handing out bulletins, and collecting the offering. The 11pm service will also require assisting with communion. Two families have already volunteered to serve at 5pm. Please call Steve Johnson at if you are willing to serve or have any questions. TFY Update TFY will be returning for normal Wednesday Night Youth Group, 6:30-8:30@First Place this week. See you in a few days! Also remember that our Winter Retreat deadline is December 18. This is open to all 6-12 graders. Make sure to have your payment, youth covenant and an update to date health form turned in by the 12/18. 6 2014 Altar Flowers The sign up list for donating the Altar flowers in 2014 is now available in the Gathering room. The following dates are still available: May 4 & 18, July 13 & 27, Aug 24 & 31, Sept 21 & Nov 9. This is a special opportunity to honor or remember our loved ones. Costa Rica Mission Trip Dates of the mission trip to Costa Rica in February 2014 are tentatively set. The team will leave for Costa Rica on Wed, Feb 5 and return home on Mon, Feb 10, or possibly Tuesday the 11th. The cost for the trip will likely be $1,000 per person, with an initial deposit due by Dec 9. A meeting will be held towards the end of the month for those who may be interested in going to discuss possible projects and trip logistics. For anybody strongly considering going on the trip, you should start the process for getting a passport if you don't already have one, and also look into immunizations. You can still add your name to the list in the Gathering Room or at First Place if you have an interest in going on the trip. If you have any questions, you can contact Brett Bogan. Hayner Presents Homecoming Concert: 2pm Paul Lauzau, formerly of Troy, will provide both solo performances on cello and family trios. Mary Ann Cornell and Mary Blauser will perform piano duets. Partners in Hope Taxable Items Drive December is FUMC s opportunity to donate taxable items to Partners in Hope to be used in various ministries. Taxable items include personal care items, paper products, diapers, both adult and child, and laundry items. The items are used in the Caregivers program as prizes for the elderly and disabled, in the Crisis Intervention program to give hope to families and in the Circles program as incentives for making positive changes. Items especially needed right now are shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, diapers and laundry detergent. Large items are broken down to help several families and generics are welcome. Labeled bins will be in the Gathering Room and at First Place for donations! Thank You! Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and the prayers. Thanks also for the cards and flowers and visitation. I am getting along real well. Dale Fisher Mitten Trees Today in the Gathering room & First Place are undecorated Christmas trees. We are asking you to decorate this tree with mittens, hats and scarves for needy children and adults in our community. 7 The Gift of Generosity This holiday season, we thank everyone who has supported Troy First this past year with their time, talent and financial contributions and look forward to support from all of our members in the year ahead. If you need a convenient way to make regular offerings or if you plan to make an additional gift before the end of the year, we encourage you to look into our electronic giving options. As the pace of life speeds up, especially around the holidays, you may find electronic giving a most welcome way to make contributions. Visit or contact the church office, , for more information. Kyle School Christmas Outreach Our church is a community partner with Kyle School and we have several opportunities to participate in meaningful activities for the students during this Christmas season: 1) Sign up in the Gathering room to volunteer at their Christmas Gala on Sat, Dec 7 in the morning. 2) Donate a dollar towards their Gala breakfast at the dollar collection on Sun Dec 1. 3) Select an ornament off the green trees on Nov 24 & Dec 1 to purchase gifts for Kyle students and their siblings. Specific directions will be provided on Nov 24 but gifts need to be returned to the church by Sun, Dec 8. The families we help are nominated by teachers and guidance counselors. They do not participate in the Partners in Hope Christmas but both projects are important. We appreciate your support. The FUMC Outreach Committee Generations of Life Hosts Holiday Grief Program for Children Generations of Life, a service of Hospice of Miami County, will host Bravehearts, a holiday program offering education and support program for children and teens who are dealing with grief. Bravehearts includes games, crafts, a holiday movie and popcorn, as well as a complimentary lunch for the children. The event will be held Saturday, December 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hospice of Miami County office at 550 Summit Ave., Suite 101 in Troy. Bravehearts is free and open to the public; however those wishing to participate must register by December 6. To register, please call Generations of Life at (937) Pastoral Care If you are going to be in the hospital and would like a pastor to visit, please staff@troyfumc.org or call Faith Hope Circle The Faith Hope Circle will not meet on Tues, Dec 3. They will join the Susannah Wesley Circle on Wed, Dec 11 for lunch at the El Sombrero Restaurant, Troy at 11:30 am. Faith Hope members call Gerry at if planning to attend the luncheon. The next regular meeting of Faith Hope Circle will be Tuesday, January 7 at 10am in the Church Social Room.

8 Special Campaigns Third Floor Ceiling Project Total Spent: $48,248 Total Contributions Received: $18,553 Deficit: $29,695 Cookies Needed Partners in Hope has asked our congregation to provide fifteen dozen cookies for the Annual Christmas Shop. The cookies will be for refreshments and each family will be given one dozen to take home. Please package the cookies one dozen per zip lock plastic bag, and deliver to the church office on Mon, Dec 16 & Tues, Dec 17. 10 Heart to Heart Holiday Cheese Spread Sale The Heart to Heart women s retreat team will once again be taking orders for holiday cheese spreads on December 1 st, 8 th, & 15 th. The money earned will be used to contain the increasing costs of the women s retreat and to provide scholarships. Look for our table in the Gathering Room and at First Place. Orders can be picked up in the Gathering Room and at First Place on December 15 th and December 22 nd after every church service. Each cheese spread is 8 ounces and costs $6.00. We will accept cash or checks made payable to the First United Methodist Church with H2H cheese spread sale listed on the memo line of the check. 14 The Fellowship Sunday School Class The Fellowship Class will begin an Advent Study on the book titled While We Wait by Mary Lou Redding. Everyone is invited to join us in Room 321 at 9:30am beginning today. Christmas Greetings for the Food Pantry For the holidays, Troy Public Radio (TPR) 91.9, is offering a chance for you to be on the radio for $25. You can wish your family, friends, co-workers, students, teachers or anyone you choose- a Merry Christmas on the radio. Scott Hornberger of TPR has offered to give part of his proceeds to our First Place Food Pantry and the Miami County Veterans Museum. $6.25 of the $25 will go to the Food Pantry and $6.25 will go to the Veterans Museum. The balance will go to new equipment for TPR. Dates for recordings are Nov 20, 3-7pm, Nov 22, 3-7pm and Nov 23, Noon- 5pm.
