6 The Scripture Reading: Philemon 1:1-25 Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our dear friend and fellow worker also to Apphia our sister and Archippus our fellow soldier and to the church that meets in your home: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, because I hear about your love for all his holy people and your faith in the Lord Jesus. I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ. Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord s people. Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do, yet I prefer to appeal to you on the basis of love. It is as none other than Paul an old man and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus that I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, who became my son while I was in chains. Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me.

7 I am sending him who is my very heart back to you. I would have liked to keep him with me so that he could take your place in helping me while I am in chains for the gospel. But I did not want to do anything without your consent, so that any favor you do would not seem forced but would be voluntary. Perhaps the reason he was separated from you for a little while was that you might have him back forever no longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a dear brother. He is very dear to me but even dearer to you, both as a fellow man and as a brother in the Lord. So if you consider me a partner, welcome him as you would welcome me. If he has done you any wrong or owes you anything, charge it to me. I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand. I will pay it back not to mention that you owe me your very self. I do wish, brother, that I may have some benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ. Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask. And one thing more: Prepare a guest room for me, because I hope to be restored to you in answer to your prayers. Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke, my fellow workers. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

BOXWOOD TREES Mark your calendars! On Wednesday, December 5, Vicki Simonds will lead a class in making decorative boxwood trees for your holiday tables. The cost will be $25. Join us in Cleveland Hall on the 5th at 10:00 a.m. to make your own customized creation. Sign up after the service or with the church office. A SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE A Service of Remembrance will be held at FBC next Sunday, December 2 at 1:00 p.m. This service is held by Charlie and Marion Hafner and Chadwick s Funeral Service to remember loved ones who have died this past year. THE GIVING TREE As in the past, we have the opportunity to help the LSRVNA and Hospice collect gifts for the Kearsarge Kids Christmas Project. Our Giving Tree is in place in Cleveland Hall for you to select and register a gift tag (in the notebook provided). Please plan to purchase, wrap, secure the tag to the gift and bring it to the church no later than Wednesday, December 5 th. GREENS DINNER POTLUCK - Monday, December 10 6:00 p.m. This year the Greens Dinner will be a potluck event. Drinks and dessert provided. Sign up in Cleveland Hall to bring a salad, entrée, side dish or bread/rolls. You can also call the church office, Greens and swags will be sold. Christmas caroling will take place during dessert for the whole family.

12 CHRISTMAS COOKIES FOR SHUT-INS AND SPECIAL FRIENDS The Deacons, with the assistance of the Health Ministries committee, will be carrying on this FBC favorite tradition and need volunteers to help. Sign up to bake, pack and/or deliver Christmas cookies for those members and friends of FBC who are less able to be out and about. In addition, we also remember those who have experienced the death of a spouse in the past year as well as those in our community who are always ready to serve (police department, fire department, and post office, library, hospital, VNA and FBC staff). Again the process is easy: Bake your favorite cookies and bring to the church Sunday, December 9th, Monday, December 10th or early Tuesday morning, December 11th. Pack and/or deliver the packaged cookies - It s a delightfully delicious, wonderful way of letting people know we appreciate them! We will be packaging the cookies beginning at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 11. CHRISTMAS CARDS FOR THE CONGREGATION It s a chance to save on stamps while you also save a tree. Rather than sending many cards to many people in the FBC congregation, consider sending one card to the church to be hung on the Christmas tree for all to see and enjoy. COMMUNITY LESSONS & CAROLS CELEBRATION First Baptist Church of New London Sunday, December 4:00 p.m. The community is invited to sing with the Community Choir as we celebrate the Coming of Christ. Rehearsals will be held on Saturday, December 8 and 15, 8:30-10:00 a.m. at FBC MEMORIAL POINSETTIAS

13 If you would like to honor or remember someone with a poinsettia in the Meeting House during the Christmas season please fill in the form below and check off the information accordingly. You have three options for ordering plants this year. (1) order through the church office, (2) order from your florist directly or (3) bring the plant to FBC by 8:30 am on Friday, December 14th. The poinsettias should be delivered wrapped in dark green foil. Please be sure to indicate if you would like your plant delivered to a shut-in or prefer to pick it up yourself on Thursday, December 27th. POINSETTIA ORDER FORM (1) Would you like the church office to order your poinsettia for you? Please fill out the form below and drop it by the church office or leave it in the offering plate.
