Frankin St., Troy Office: Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Epiphany Today we take a behind-the-scenes look at the Christmas Star. The Bible makes a surprising number of references to signs in the heavens. Both Old and New Testaments assume that what happens up there matters. The Book of Job is considered the oldest Biblical text, likely originating before the time of Abraham, and it speaks of the stars. It states that God set them in place, and references some constellations that we know today. The telescope had not been invented in Biblical times, but ancient astronomers carefully studied and mapped out the movements and brightness of the objects they saw in the sky, calling all of them stars. Bob and Ann Baird, World Race for Hope 5k Start off the New Year on the right foot! Registration is open for the 9th annual World Race for Hope 5k run/walk. The race will take place on Jan 1, 10am, with the start & finish at First Place. The Troy First youth group will once again be serving up a freewill offering pancake breakfast starting at 10am. Register before 11/30 in order to be guaranteed organic cotton, fair trade race shirt. Register online at or with the paper forms found in the Gathering Room. Proceeds used to fight modern day slavery locally and around the world. Great Gift Idea! The UMW cookbook makes a wonderful Christmas gift. First Place Food Pantry A ministry of the First United Methodist Church 721 Lincoln Ave, Troy Hours: Monday, Wednesday* & Friday 1-3pm Monday Evening: 5-6:30pm *2 nd Wednesday: 3-5pm Must bring a photo ID and proof of residency for Troy. Volunteers always needed!!! There will be blood pressure checks next Sun, Dec. 6, both the church and First Place. At 11:45am there will be blood pressure checks at the church only. The Health Ministry will be doing a "Putting on the Reds" campaign in Feb for Women's heart month. We need women to wear something red on Dec 20 and volunteer to have their picture taken to be used on several posters that are being made. The pictures will be taken in the Gathering room & First Place at 9:15 and 11:45am. Kyle School Christmas Gala In addition to gifts for families at Kyle School, the Outreach committee also supports Kyle s Christmas Gala. There is a sign-up sheet in the Gathering room and at First Place to work at their Christmas Gala. The Gala is held on Dec, 12, from 8:30-11:30am. They need help at the family breakfast, the book store, the Santa shop, and the gift shopping area. Just sign up for a time and they will put you to work. We will be taking a dollar donation collection on Sunday Dec 13, to help support the family breakfast. Come and have fun with joyful children. Thanks for taking all the gift tags. The Kroger gift certificates need to be put in a marked envelope and delivered to the Church office. Thank You! The Outreach Committee
