2 Council Update Council Report: January 2016 The council meeting in January was called to order by outgoing President Joyce Adgate. The following council members were present: Frank Wagner, Sharlene Nolan, Carl Deitrich, Nicole Heckman, Doris Yarnell, Emily Rickard, Susan Higgins, Pastor Koch, Susan Besch Susan Higgins opened the meeting with devotions followed by the treasurer and secretary reports. Some discussion on the secretary s minutes was made to help ease the new members of council into their new roles and help everyone to feel on the same page. Pastor Koch then followed with his report on his current mission to our church. In old business, we discussed the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service and will be ordering new small candles for next year. Next on the agenda was updating the council on the status of the Yarnell property. We will be discussing the property at the Annual Meeting on January 31, We are in the process of turning off the phone, electricity, water, and getting liability insurance coverage and working on the tax assessments on the property. All of this will be finalized after the Annual Meeting. The council again agreed to make a donation to the Meat Canning Project for If anyone would like to participate, see Fred Yost for more information. In New Business, the council thanked Carl Deitrich for his service on council the past 2 years, and then we began the reorganization of the council. Please look for the reorganization later in the newsletter. The property committee is currently looking to replace a warning light on the piano, a light in the marque in the front of the church, and a leak in the ceiling of the church. We decided to promote the Bellefonte Community One Book, One Bellefonte- Community wide read. If you are interested in more information see the bulletin on Sunday mornings. The meeting concluded with a prayer for those joys and concerns in our life by Pastor Koch. Our next meeting is Tuesday, February 8 at 6:30 pm. Frank Wagner has devotions. However, if someone needs it the same date and time, we will try our best to make some kind of arrangements. 5

WATER AND OIL: For the past years, Roger and Barbara Vandermark have donated distilled water for the piano and oil for the altar candles. Before Barbara passed on to her eternal home, she gave Roger orders to continue to take care of these items. Barb, we will watch over Roger to make sure he does his work for the Lord. Barb, I can hear you laughing now. ~Love you Barb! IMPORTANT WORK ON THE PROPERTY COMMITTEE Do you know that it is important to keep up the maintenance work at the church just like at your home? 1. Oil the bell in the belfry (will stop ringing if not oiled) 2. Water the piano (wood could warp, strings rust, not a good tune) 3. Emergency Lights: water batteries (when needed), oil generator, turn generator on for a half hour once a month, when electricity goes out, emergency lights will come on. 4. Make sure the furnace is cleaned once a year, oil in the tank, so we can keep warm in the winter. 5. Keep soft water conditioner fed with salt so our heat pipes will not corrode. 6. Keep the chair lift clean and lubricated so the riders have a nice, smooth ride. 7. Remember to change batteries in smoke alarms every 6 months. PS. I can remember so well, Frank Wagner s first year on council in The water pipes froze in the kitchen What a mess!! Heaters here and there to try to thaw it out. 6
