2 The Redeemer Reporter PASTOR S PONDERINGS Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. It has always seemed to me that the metabolism of life in the US changes around the first of September every year. There are teasing hints that fall is in the air, a new school year is beginning, there s a new excitement all about, and - perhaps especially - nature is preparing for the change of seasons. The pace of parish life and ministry definitely shifts as well. If you happened to be at church either of the last two Sundays in August, you could actually feel it. The vote to call a new pastor is imminent, the influx of prospective new members continues unabated, Rally Day on the 26 th kicked off a promising new year in Christian education (five classes on Sunday mornings (including Confirmation) and one on Thursday nights in the fall and spring, and excitement and enthusiasm for mission and ministry has seldom if ever been any higher. Just look around you and marvel at what God is up to in, through and among us! Our journey through Mark s Gospel in worship during the last months of this Time after Pentecost goes through Chapters 7-13 with stories which cheer us on toward lives that are more real, fruitful and whole. (We will be caught up in the urgency of Mark s pace as we move on toward the festival of Christ the King in November, and we will hear about) Jesus teaching and healing, exorcising demons, and challenging believers (us) to live lives of service and sacrifice. And throughout Jesus travels and our hearing, we are reminded of God s abundant grace fitting for a land and people experiencing the harvest of the earth and beauty of nature (in autumn), and for a broken world longing for wholeness and promise (SUNDAYS AND SEASONS 2018, p. 251). Won t you come and be a part of the Spirit s movement in, through and among this family of God s people at Redeemer! Servant in Christ, Pastor Clark+ Page 1

7 Committee Reports CALL COMMITTEE NEWS Our Primary Pastoral Candidate has committed to the Call of Redeemer Lutheran Church! The Call Committee and the Executive Council met with the Primary Candidate on Friday evening, August 24 th to discuss any further questions the Candidate, Executive Council or Call Committee members might of have needed answering. The Executive Council and Call Committee members are completely satisfied that this is the pastoral candidate for Redeemer Lutheran Church. The remainder of the meeting was to discuss and accept the Compensation Package for the candidate. This was accomplished. Throughout this process, our Call Committee has followed the SC Synod Call Process. The next step in the process will be for the Primary Candidate to meet with Church Council along with the Call Committee to have conversation with the candidate and for the Church Council to vote on the candidate and the Compensation Package. Once that occurs, there will be a Meet and Greet with the Congregation, the Candidate and their family prior to having a Congregational meeting. At the Congregational meeting, there will be a vote on accepting the Candidate and their Compensation Package. Then there will be an official Letter of Call to the pastor for them to officially accept our call to Redeemer Lutheran Church. When all this is accomplished, the Candidate will tentatively start middle to late October as the new Pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Doug Logan Redeemer Lutheran Call Committee Chair Page 6

The chilren enjoyed a game of name that ice cream and prizes were awarded. The Upstate Barbershop Quartet, The Echos, performed several musical selections for the group and were well received. Thank you to Redeemer member Chuck Pegram and friends for taking their time to enterain us. Our next event will be held on Saturday September 22 in the social hall. Bingo for young and old alike. The game will start at 6:30 pm with snacks and beverage. Come join us for the fun. 11 Other Important Information Ladies Bible Study: Our study will be Entrusted by Beth Moore which begins Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 6:30 pm 8:30 pm through October 18, This is a study of 2 Timothy. In Paul s letter, he charged Timothy, his beloved son in faith, to not be ashamed to fulfil God s call on his life. God has a plan for you. He has entrusted you with the gospel message and he is calling you to be his mighty servant. A sign-up sheet is on the table in the gathering area or you may see Terry Jane Moore or Carolyn Colussy. Please prayerfully consider joining. Us in this study on 2 Timothy. New AED Equipment: Please note our Safety Wall, on the right wall after you leave the sanctuary. It is the new home of our AED cabinet AND our Fire Extinguisher. Seven Redeemer members met briefly to review how to use this; but look on U-tube for more how to. We will have a sign-up if you are interested in CPR training and AED instructions. We need 25 students, and the cost is $10 per person. They will provide the materials and mannequins for practice. Current guidelines do not require mouth to mouth resuscitation, only chest compressions and use of AED. Please note a day and times best for you and the majority rules! Thanks to our donors who gave toward this purchase!!! Page 10

12 Redeemer Lutheran Men s Garage Sale: The Redeemer Garage Sale has been set for Saturday, October 6 th with a rain backup date of October 13 th. Continue to bring items for the sale and plan to help setup on Friday evening and help at the sale on Saturday. There will also be a bake sale during the garage sale. Ladies we ran out of baked goods last year, so please bake and help us raise money for WELCA. WELCA Ladies: Each 2:00 pm we will gather at the church for our craft Thursday. We have completed the blankets for the children s home and will be delivering them sometime in November. Please see the pictures posted on the bulletin board in the narthex. At the present we are making blankets for hospice. They are in need of lap blankets. Please mark your calendars and come join the fellowship while working on a great cause. You do not have to be in WELCA to participate. We welcome everyone. New Phone Tree: We have a new phone tree! Last week I sent out a phone tree about Rally Sunday. According to the report I get only 4 people did not receive it. I am attempting to find out which four. On the old system a good many of the households had the phone tree calling the house phone and each resident s cell phone. We would like to limit one or two calls per household. Please let the office know what numbers you would like called. Also, if you did not receive the message please notify the office by text, , or phone call. Thanks, Terry Reminder: If you are down to serve in one of the capacities on Sunday and you cannot serve. please remember you need to find a replacement.
