We are looking forward to cooler weather and the end of Hurricane season. This year has seen so much devastation in Texas, Florida and to a lesser degree, other states as well as the island nations to our south. North Carolina Baptist, including those of our own association, have risen to the task that will be ongoing for some time. We will have many opportunities to show others our love and concern as these areas will need help in rebuilding. We celebrated our homecoming this year and it was a spectacular day that included a special sermon from your former pastor, Richard Phillips. We also observed the ordinance of baptism and experienced a wonderful day of worship, thanksgiving and fellowship. Both committees for the selection of a youth pastor/worker and the building committee are hard at work with the next phases of their duties. Much prayer is needed and appreciated by those that are on those committees. Our Fall Festival with be October 28 th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Please come and invite someone to come and share this good time together. Also, volunteers are still needed, so please contact Pam Knowles and let her know you are willing to help. The ongoing series each Sunday Nights on Discipleship is being well attended and positive comments are being made as to both the need and effectiveness of learning both to be a disciple and to disciple others. Again, please come and invite both church members and any visitors. I am asking the church this year to make a large commitment to the Baptist Children Homes of N.C. We will be having a week of prayer from November 12-19, with an emphasis on the special

2 offering to be collected November 19 th. We have set the goal for this offering at $10, Envelopes will be available beginning the first week in November and we will collect throughout the month. While we will still be taking an offering for Lottie Moon-foreign missions during the month of December, I am asking that your first priority be at Home here in NC. The mission efforts for Meet me at the Bridge, Sole Hope Ministry and our Philippine Children s Missions is phenomenal. You have started a movement within this entire community that is bringing in support from many others as well as the CBC family. See what God will do, when we have a vision and work for the accomplishment of that vision. Our shoe box ministry thru Samaritans Purse will have its emphasis from November 13 th thru November 20 th. Please see Amy Peterson for details. I am still anticipating more mission projects for our future and look forward to your ideas as the Holy Spirit moves. The Pastor and the Ministry staff of CBC is open to suggestions for all valid ministries. If you have a suggestion please let us know. As we continue to pray for our own, let us also remember several of our sister churches that are having difficulty. Many are without pastors and need our support in prayer as they seek the man God has prepared for them. An up to date list of our deacon family ministry is posted in the church office and if you need to speak with your deacon, feel free to call our office for that information. Baptist Brotherhood Breakfast: 8 AM Sunday, October 15 Youth Lock-in! Friday, October 13! That s right! Youth, join us at 6 PM for a fun night of Pizza, Games, Movies and more! Parents, drop-off time is 6 PM Friday, and you can pick them up Saturday morning at 9:00.

5 SATURDAY, OCTOBER PM There s something for everyone at this year s Fall Festival! Kids will have pony rides, blow-ups, s mores, fire trucks, tractors, farm equipment for viewing, games and TRUNK OR TREAT! Contests this year are Pumpkin Recipe; Chili Cook-off; Trunk or Treat; Car Show Best in Show! Winners in each category will receive a $25 Gift Certificate. We will have a CAKE WALK (CAKES NEEDED!), bingo, hot dogs, popcorn and lemonade. There will be LIVE MUSIC on the front steps of the church so don t forget to bring a lawn chair for your comfort! Activities begin at 4 PM; awards will be given at 6:30 following by Trunk or Treating by 7 PM. Please invite your friends and those who live in your area this is a great outreach for our community!

6 Meet Me at the Bridge I want to share with you a letter I received from David Smith, the founder of Meet Me at the Bridge. It proves how God is working and transforming lives among the homeless in Durham. THANK YOU to all who donated socks during the month of September. You gave so generously that we have enough for a second project later on! A couple of weeks ago I shared on Facebook a post from Cheryl Smith, David s wife, about the great need for shoes for the homeless. Quickly I had several people and a local pastor to contact me about collecting shoes. Before I knew it, we were in the middle of a shoe drive! I love how God speaks to the hearts of people and they are moved with compassion to share the love of God to hurting people so they may know the Hope that is in Christ alone. Our youth have jumped on board as well and they plan to go to the Bridge and serve this month. So I ask you to support our youth in collecting SHOES for the homeless as our church wide project for the month of October. We are accepting practical, clean, slightly used or new shoes. No summer shoes, please. We don t have anywhere to store them right now. Also as we prepare for cooler weather, if you have coats you re not going to use this winter, please donate them to the Bridge. They will be greatly appreciated. We will collect COATS through the winter months. Everyone is invited to travel to Durham with us to serve any third Saturday. This past month we had from 6 years of age up to great-grandma status serving from our church. It is truly an eye -opening experience and you will be blessed as you bless others.
