Dear friends in Christ As we reach the 13 th Sunday of the year we see the Lord showing his divine power by bringing miraculous healings, signs and wonders to bear. Do we, in our hearts, believe that this was only for his day and no longer happens? Thankfully, despite my unworthiness, I have seen miracles happen over the years, so the power of God is still very much in evidence. Do we believe it? Let us pray for a deeper and stronger faith in the living presence and power of Jesus among us. A prayer with the Blessed Sacrament All my strength is in you, o Living Bread. It would be difficult for me to live through the day if I did not receive Holy Communion. It is my shield; without you, Jesus, I know not how to live [Saint Faustina]. House blessings The house blessings are starting this weekend my friends, with two venues scheduled for the coming days. 3 Sanctuary Lamp The Sanctuary lamp will burn for Our Lady of Canvey Deceased Parishioners when we have no names booked in. We have loads spaces please book for your friends & loved ones. Goodwill Club The Goodwill Club have now started in the Parish hall. They will be in there every Friday from 7-10pm & it is open to anyone who is interested. Entrance fee is 3 & they do different things each week which are bingo, sequence dancing & much more & they even do holidays & day trips out. They currently have around 40 people attending. Your first session to try it is completely FREE so come along & find out more! Diocese s Lourdes Pilgrimage - Brentwood Diocese's pilgrimage to Lourdes with Bishop Alan, from Monday 23 - Saturday 28 July. For further information, please 'phone Tangey Tours on Flight times - If you are coming on the pilgrimage, you will appreciate knowing the flight times. The departure on Monday will be from Stansted at 10 am. Our return flight on Saturday 28 July will arrive at Stansted at pm (departing Lourdes at am). 7 Questions on the Catholic Faith How long does the presence of Christ last in the Eucharist? The presence of Christ continues in the Eucharist as long as the Eucharistic species subsist. What kind of worship is due to the sacrament of the Eucharist? The worship due to the sacrament of the Eucharist, whether during the celebration of the Mass or outside it, is the worship of latria, that is, the adoration given to God alone. The Church guards with the greatest care Hosts that have been consecrated. She brings them to the sick and to other persons who find it impossible to participate at Mass. She also presents them for the solemn adoration of the faithful and she bears the in processions. The Church encourages the faithful to make frequent visits to adore the Blessed Sacrament reserved in the tabernacle. Scripture reflection from Father Adrian Graffy The early chapters of the Gospel of Mark record Jesus' activity in Galilee, as he preaches the good news of the kingdom of God and performs mighty works which point to the approach of the kingdom. All this precedes his journey to Jerusalem, and his ministry there which leads to his death and resurrection. The mighty work, or miracle, about which we hear in today's gospel reading, is the calming of a storm on the Sea of Galilee. Most of the miracles of Jesus are healings. The first healing in Mark's gospel was that of the possessed man in the synagogue at Capernaum. The evangelist also gives summaries of various healings worked by Jesus. Along with the parables, the miracles are a major feature of Jesus' ministry in Mark's gospel. This miracle shows the power of Jesus over natural forces, as his words calm the sea and the winds. All four gospels recall such an event. The disciples call out to Jesus in alarm, while he is asleep in the stern. His powerful word recalls the word spoken by God in creation at the beginning of the Book of Genesis. Our first reading from the Book of Job gives a poetic description of God's power in limiting the extent of the seas. The effect of the words of Jesus is instant. He has the power of God. Jesus questions the disciples about their fear and their lack of faith, but the passage ends with their question about Jesus. 'Who can this be? Even the wind and the sea obey him.' The awe they experience - the Greek text says 'they feared with a great fear' - is the reaction of someone in the presence of God. The disciples will be searching for an answer to their question throughout the gospel. What is the meaning of the miracles of Jesus? Does it seem strange to you that Jesus should put on such a display of power to calm the storm? Pray for a deeper awareness of the purpose of Jesus and the gospel. Pray for those who struggle to accept the truth about Jesus.

8 STRONG by Zumba We have a new permanent hall user who is offering fitness classes called STRONG by Zumba. It's a HITT workout (High Intensity Tempo Training) every move is synced to the music. Classes will be 5 each & will take place on Tuesday evenings 6:30pm-7:30pm & Saturday mornings 9:30am-10.30am. Lawrence Lew O.P. and Canon Poucin. The weekend will be full-board. YCA will be running the weekend with the Schola Gregoriana of Cambridge who will be holding Gregorian chant workshops. There will also be a Marian Procession, Rosaries, Sung Masses, Confession, talks (on the beauty of silence in the Mass plus social media and evangelization) and socials. All Masses will be celebrated in the extraordinary form.
