Stay informed. This week s second reading addresses the age old queson Can faith without good works gain salvaon? James asks What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone says they have faith but do not have good works? I am so proud of our parish families in their generosity to those in need. Our blue monthly envelopes are ways in which we can perform good works. Our outreach extends beyond those envelopes. Our blue envelopes help the Sellersburg Food Pantry, Crusade for Children, The Church of the Good Shepherd in Campton, KY, our sister parish in Hai, St. Elizabeth Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, St Vincent depaul Society, St. Joseph the Worker, and more. Plus we have the Toys for Campton and the Giving Tree at Christmas, ongoing food donaons to the Sellersburg Food Pantry and several Missionary appeals that receive your generous help. Along with our opportunity to donate monetarily we can contribute our me and talents through ministries such as greeters. Some people think being a greeter is not a ministry. Wrong! Your smiling face and friendly demeanor are the first posive exposure to our wonderful parish. I love when children help greet with their parents and hold the door for people coming to Mass. Every ministry is important. Even if you can t come to church due to illness or lack of transportaon you can be a member of our Prayer Ministry and pray for those on our prayer list. Last year we offered a Service Day where over 120 parish members gathered to serve others. Some people cleaned up the cemetery, raked, trimmed yards at St. Elizabeth s and Mt. St. Francis, and much more. Others rolled burritos for Burrito Riders in Louisville who pass out burritos to the homeless on the streets of Louisville. And just in case you need someone to roll burritos for you, just give me a call! I loved every minute with my companions as we rolled over 100 burritos. We laughed and felt so important. Simple tasks but so rewarding. At mes in our life our budget dictates how much of our income we can share with others. But a friendly smile, a hand up the stairs, a ride to church, a prayer, a dish prepared for a funeral meal, helping serve a funeral meal, lending a hand at the Food Pantry, these are all things that cost licle or nothing but can send the message that St. John Paul II Parish is filled with kind and giving people. We all know what a wonderful parish family we have, let us show others what we see each day as we live St. James message What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone says they have faith but do not have good works. Remember the old Coke commercial where a large group sang Reach Out and Touch? That is my message today. So now sing along with me Reach out and touch somebody s hand, make this world a becer place if you can. You CAN make this parish and this world a becer place. 4 St. John Paul II Catholic Church Cateche/cal Sunday September 16, 2018 On this Cateche cal Sunday, we reflect on the role each person plays, by virtue of Bap=sm, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. This is reiterated in the St. John Paul II Vision Statement. Cateche cal Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith - from Catechists in our religious educa=on programs and Catholic schools to parents who are truly the primary catechists of their children, and all of the faithful. Let us pray for the grace to con=nue our mission and vision. St. John Paul II Vision Statement: 1. People who have a personal rela=onship with Jesus and feel comfortable sharing their faith with others. 2. People who are open to the gifs of the Holy Spirit in their lives. 3. 7 Sacraments & Sacramental Preparation Baptisms: Typically celebrated at weekend Masses. A Baptism Preparation Session is required for parents. The next session is October 14, 2018 immediately following the 11:15 Mass at the St. Paul. Confessions: Available Friday mornings at 11:15am at the St. Joe Hill and Saturdays at 4:15pm at the St. Paul. You may also contact Fr. Tom at to schedule an appointment. Marriage: Please contact Fr. Tom at at least six months prior to planned wedding date. The marriage preparation process will be explained at that time. Anointing of the Sick: If you are aware of an upcoming medical event for which you would like this sacrament, you may contact Fr. Tom to schedule the sacrament at In case of an emergency, contact Fr.
