Regular programming will resume Sunday, October14th. September 30, 2018 Dear fellow parishioners, As we near the end of the liturgical year, there are tremendous opportuni es within the church calendar for enriching our faith. Notwithstanding Advent and Christmas which begin our new church year, we have many chances to learn about and celebrate the heroic men and women recognized by the Church as Saints, culmina ng on All Saint s Day (Nov 1). This upcoming week we celebrate the feast days of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, commonly known as The LiBle Flower (October 1), The Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels (October 2), St. Mother Theodore Guérin (October 3), St. Francis of Assisi (October 4) and Bl. Francis Xavier Seelos and St. Faus na (October 5). The Catholic Church teaches that: Being more closely united to Christ, those who dwell in heaven fix the whole Church more firmly in holiness They do not cease to intercede with the Father for us, as they proffer the merits which they acquired on earth through the one mediator between God and men, Christ Jesus (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 956). The Church encourages the church militant (us) to request the aid of the church triumphant (those in heaven) to help us grow closer to our Lord as we work to emulate their virtues. October is abundant with well-known saints, in par cular our Patron Saint Pope St. John Paul II (JPII) who we celebrate on Monday, October 22. Spend an evening with the Mother of Mercy Messengers who will speak on Divine Mercy on Sunday, October 21st at the St. Paul Chapel (p4), along with Holy Hour and Confessions. Divine Mercy Sunday (the second Sunday of Easter) was ins tuted by JPII in 2000 at the same me he canonized Sr. Faus na Kowalska. On this day, he declared "This is the happiest day of my life." (thedivinemercy.org) One of my favorite Catholic devo ons for enriching our faith is the Novena, a 9-day prayer for the intercession of a par cular saint to Jesus on behalf of our inten ons. Leading up to the feast day of JPII, we will make available prayers for his intercession for our inten ons and our church, especially as we move toward building our new unified worship space. Watch the bulle n and our parish website for this novena prayer we can share together October As we turn the page on another church year, and subsequent calendar year, may God bless you and your family. May we also pray for the Communion of Saints intercession for those who are sick or in need of healing. Blessings, Joan Dilger First Saturday Devo on to the Immaculate Heart of Mary St. Paul Chapel Saturday, October 6, :00am Rosary, Litany, and Devo ons 8:30am Mass Confessions will also be available. All you holy men and women, pray for us.

OCTOBER OUTREACH COLLECTION: October 7, 2018 I recently aended the Parish Twinning Program of the Americas Na<onal Conference in Nashville. It was a humbling experience to be with so many other parishioners from across the USA and see their passion for their twin parishes in Hai< and in other countries. The speakers challenged us to be Bold and Crea<ve in our Twinning, to rethink the way we do Mission; but most compelling for me was the challenge to BE THE GOSPEL WE PREACH. Our twinning rela<onship with our parishes in Bayeaux-Novion provide us with an opportunity to do just that- Be the Gospel we Preach. There are several ways you can help us do that. 100% of the October outreach collec<on, as well as the money raised in our Hands Across Hai' Appeal will go to directly aid our sister parish in Hai<. With your dona<ons, we are able to pay teacher salaries, provide food for the priest and the parish staff (priests in Hai< do not receive a salary, but live on only the support of their parish collec<ons which is less than $3000 US dollars a year), help maintain their buildings, and provide direct outreach to the poorest of the poor. You can help by being generous in the outreach collec<on as well as the Hands Across Hai< Appeal throughout October. You can also help by considering aending a mission trip to learn more about the life of our sister parish (our next trip will be in early February or March a fine <me to be in a tropical climate). It is a wonderful opportunity to make new friends with our sister parishioners. Also, please consider this an invita<on to join us on the third Tuesday of each month for the regular mee<ngs of our Hai< Commiee. There is a Hai<an Proverb that says, Lile By Lile, the Bird builds his Nest. Please be generous and help us build up our sister parishes in Bayeaux- Novion. Debbie Waiz and the Hai Commiee Addi'onal Athle'c Opportunity - Providence Basketball Academy Team Tryouts Who: All grade 5-8 boys aending a New Albany deanery school who plan to aend Providence High School Where: Providence HS gymnasium When: October 14 th and 21 st, grades 5-6 3:30-5:30, Costs: grades 7-8 5:30-7:30 No costs for tryouts. Player fee for all boys selected will be $250. That covers team fees for 5-6 weekend tournaments and your uniform. These teams are being formed for boys that are bound for Providence for their high school days. It s an opportunity to start learning coach Smith s system of basketball. There will be a brief parent mee<ng at the beginning of each tryout led by Coach Smith. Boys are encouraged to try to aend both dates if possible. Please Coach Smith for ques<ons at ssmith@providencehigh.net The Community Kitchen in Jeffersonville is looking for help. Our Parish group helps every other Tuesday from 10a-1p. Contact Bob Burkholder at rburk@twc.com or (812) if you are called to this ministry. St. Joe the Worker helps to facilitate a basic car service program for registered parishioners who may be experiencing financial hardship or are on a fixed income. We know how important safe and reliable transporta<on is and we want to help! If your car s oil needs changed, <res need rotated, brakes need aen<on or the car is making weird noises, this program could be for you. A voucher is made available for a safety inspec<on, rou<ne maintenance or diagnos<cs performed at Advanced Auto Service at 105 S. Indiana Ave in Sellersburg, owned and operated by parishioner Greg Sills. With voucher in hand, all you need to do is schedule an appointment at Advanced Auto Service - Car Service? they will take care of the rest. Call Barbara at the St. Paul Campus at with ques<ons or to pick up a voucher. All that is required is your name and license number of the car that needs service.
