No one could touch them under the law. Yet, Jesus reaches out to heal him by touching him. 1. Who are the unclean people in society today? Have you ever had a personal encounter with someone considered outside of society? How did you deal with them? 2. Why did Jesus tell the leper to tell no one what had happened to him? 3. Where in your life do you need Jesus to touch you? Sellersburg/Speed Food Pantry Needs: Li le Debbie Type Snacks Welcome to St. John Paul II Catholic Church New Parishioners: Jus n & Kristen Warren and their children Emma & Mason Nick & Joanne Knable Bailey Knable Amelia Motsch & Eric Pham and their son Alexander Ash Wednesday Mass Schedule February 14, :30am St. Paul Chapel 12:00pm St. Joe Hill Chapel 7:00pm St. Paul Chapel Family the most important thing Dear Parish Family For those who know me and have a ended some YM events in the past, there is a good chance you have probably met my parents. Mom and Dad are both big supporters of me working for the church I am Catholic born and raised. They are big supporters of me, my family, and my sister and her family. During the first two weeks of January, both my parents fell and broke a leg! Yes, mom broke her right leg and dad broke his le leg! Mom broke two bones, had to have surgery, and no weight for 6 8 weeks on her leg. Dad had to have surgery to screw together a broken bone and had to have a tendon repaired, no weight for weeks! Oh my! My sister and I have had to tag team taking care of odd projects for them and making sure they are behaving! They are fi ed out with wheelchairs, scooters, crutches, and a peg leg for dad (who isn t allowed to use it yet per the doctor)! Anyway, with all that said, a er si ng in the doctors offices with them for follow up visits and in the hospital as they waited in pre op or in post op, it has been an eye opener that my parents are ge ng older! Dad has always been my hero and my go to person for projects and life issues. Mom is the encourager and the one I call when the kids are sick. Dad has told me point blank before that he is ge ng older, but I have refused to listen. Now I have to take no ce as Jessica (my sister) and I take turns driving them to doctor appointments because they can t drive and ba le laundry in the basement because they can t do stairs! Our families are important, and un l something like this happens, I think a lot of us take them for granted. My kids are another example. Kayla came into our lives around the me we were being told by doctors we would not be able to have kids and Jimmy was a baby that was never supposed to happen! I know I take Kayla and Jimmy for granted now too, but some mes I stop myself and think what awesome gi s from God! Take a minute and think about how you rely on your family. Have you told them you love them? What an inspira on with Valen ne s Day coming up! Give a Valen ne to all of your family and tell them you love them, even the grumpy ones! You don t realize how much they impact you! As tears well up in my eyes as I write this, I hope my folks know how much I love and appreciate them! Happy Valen ne s Day to you my parish family! You are important to me too! If I could buy and mail Valen ne Day cards to you I would, but I don t think my hand could handle signing so many cards! Dawn Schepers Youth Minister

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE Campaign Goal: $6,000,000 Total $ Raised: $5,459,109 Percent to $6 Million: 91% Number of Pledges Completed: 400 Parish Contribution: 33% Number of Weeks Left in the 2 Campaign: We extend our heartfelt thanks to the hundreds of families who have given so generously to our campaign, A Future Full of Hope. Thanks to their sacrificial gifts and exceptional generosity, we are getting ever closer to our goal. But we still need YOU! Please give prayerful consideration to your five-year pledge of support to build our parish for each other and the future. COMMITMENT WEEKEND IS NEXT WEEKEND Families have pledged their support to our campaign A Future Full of Hope. HAVE YOU? Join the 33% of parish families who have brought us more than 91% to our goal! These generous families have made a wide range of personally meaningful pledges averaging $13,600 to our campaign. Won t you join them in showing your support? Next weekend, you can bring your pledge card to Mass and place it in the collection basket. Pledge cards will also be passed out for you to complete. Ready to pledge to the campaign and would like to talk with someone? A campaign volunteer is available to meet with you Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. Call Church Office ext. 410 to make an appointment.

Many of your neighbors, friends and fellow parishioners have pledged their support to our campaign, A Future Full of Hope. Now it s YOUR turn. WHAT S THE RUSH? Why are we in such a hurry when it is a five-year campaign? Great question! Pledges will indeed be collected over five years. However, we only have two more weeks to receive each family s decision before Commitment! Campaigns can be costly in time, energy and resources, and as good stewards, we have a short window of time to raise pledges. To help us wrap up in a timely fashion, we are asking everyone to decide their pledge amounts and return their pledge cards before or during our commitment weekend on February 17th and 18th. Please keep in mind, we do not need pledges to be fulfilled in the next three weeks. We simply ask that you provide us with the amount you wish to pledge, the date you plan on beginning pledge payments, and the length of time you will make payments. It s up to you when you begin your payments. Before we can start construction, we must have 100% pledged and 50% of the funds on hand. So the sooner we conclude our campaign efforts, the sooner we can complete the project and enjoy our beautiful new church!

WHY DO WE NEED A NEW CHURCH? OUR CHALLENGES 1.Becoming a Unified Parish Thanks to the blessings we have received and the community we have built together, our parish and our school are thriving. The time has come for us to join together again to build a stronger foundation for the next generation. 2. Inadequate Amount of Space The diocesan policy is that all priests work toward three masses per weekend. If we did that now, and if all the Masses were held at St. Paul, the larger of the two churches, we would be at 95% capacity. 3. Growing Community St. John Paul II Parish has been blessed with a growing community of faith in recent years. Our parish has increased to more than 1,200 families and approximately 3,000 members. 4. Decline in Clergy For the first time in our recent history we will have more parishes than priests. There is a dwindling number of active priests and at the same time, our parishes continue to experience growth annually. OUR FUTURE St. John Paul II has begun planning for the construction of a new Church which will hold up to 710 parishioners, with the ability to expand up to 1,150 parishioners. This part of the project will be addressed first to allow our parish community to unite and begin worshiping as one family should, together. We are overjoyed with the amount of support we are receiving from our parishioners for these plans. The new St. John Paul II parish church will provide opportunities for the spirit, mind and body. The new church will include an adoration chapel for a private, quiet place to worship. The gathering space will allow you to congregate and build community after church with fellow parishioners. There will be enough seating for us to celebrate the Eucharist comfortably as well as welcome visitors and new families to our parish. Sanctuary Area 1,380 sq. ft. Vestry/Ministries Room 450 sq. ft. Gathering Space 1,980 sq. ft. Reconciliation Room 165 sq. ft. Adoration Chapel (24-hour access) 390 sq. ft. Bride Room/Cry Room 275 sq. ft. Nursery 530 sq. ft. Sacristy 290 sq. ft. Children s Liturgy of the Word 570 sq. ft. Bathrooms/Water/Storage 1,095 sq. ft.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO ATTENDED THE CAMPAIGN RECEPTION We are close to wrapping up the capital campaign and we need every parishioner s participation in our capital campaign in order to be successful. It is everyone s responsibility to prayerfully consider how your family can participate in this much-needed campaign. Over the past five months campaign volunteers have personally visited with more than 400 families and have tried to connect with fellow parishioners via the phone over the past three weeks. At all Masses next weekend, we will invite all parishioners who have not yet made their sacrificial gift in support of A Future Full of Hope to do so. Please give very careful consideration to Father Tom s request for a 5 year pledge. Every gift is welcome and needed. Every gift will help St. John Paul II meet its needs. We are grateful to the families who have already made their pledge. It is only through the sacrificial generosity of all of us that we can truly be successful. How Do I Prepare for Commitment Weekend? 1) Read the campaign materials. 2) Pray with your family about your pledge to the campaign. 3) Be prepared to complete a form next weekend. How Much Should I Give? The following gift plans are presented for your prayerful consideration.
