Sellersburg/Speed Food Pantry Needs: Canned Fruit Welcome to St. John Paul II Catholic Church New Parishioners: Emily Pacholski Jacob Moeller Theresia PeHt April 27-28, 2018 Sacred Heart School Jeffersonville, Indiana Dear St. John Paul II Parishioner, In March, Father Tom a group of ten parishioners traveled to Anaheim, California for the Religious Educaon Congress. I looked forward to returning to the Congress this year a5er a6ending in 2016 having such a posive experience. This four day event is our naon s largest annual gathering of Roman Catholics with nearly 40,000 registered parcipants. The Congress offers over 300 sessions with varied topics relang to our Catholic faith. The themed liturgies provide unique opportunies to worship with a few thous of your closest friends. Every facet of this unique event allows for renewal of one s Catholic faith in an atmosphere of posive energy. With more than 200 speakers to choose from, it is no small task to choose the sessions that are the best fit for your parcular ministry or where you are in your faith journey. The speakers that the Congress a6racts are definitely a list of Who s Who? in the areas of Catholic theology, music, forward thinking. I parcipated in sessions led by priests, a sister, several PhDs. There was a parcular speaker that I found to be the most engaging in 2016 that I registered to see again this year. That speaker is David Wells. I found his 2016 presentaon 100 Tips for Becoming a Missionary Parish extremely relevant to our JPII Mission Vision statements. He spoke about the symptoms of stuckness the inclinaon to get stuck in the way things are. The session he facilitated this year focused on Raising New Disciples. He explored how to pass on our values beliefs make what is important to us important to our children. I am excited by the fact that everyone in our parish will have the wonderful opportunity to benefit from David Wells insight without having to travel to do it. Father Tom has invited David Wells to JPII (all the way from his home in Engl)! He will be facilitang our Parish Mission. So, I encourage you to clear your calendar for the evenings of April plan to a6end. Skip a night or two of Wheel of Fortune Jeopardy, ask a friend to give your kids a ride to pracce, resist the urge to binge watch that series, or whatever it takes. I am confident that you will find his speaking style engaging. He is not a preacher or a philosopher. He s a down to earth family man with the ability to make you laugh (somemes at yourself), make you think. Mingle with youth from other parishes in a lively overnight event about the Beatudes. Cost is $20, but you can get 1/2 off if you register with Dawn by April 16th. Youth must be a St. JPII student or parishioner to receive the discount. (License #144390) Go Beyond Sunday is the theme for our annual stewardship drives in We began back in Advent with the Stewardship of Time. Go Beyond Sunday-Stewardship of our Time was meant to challenge us to make sure the time we spent on Sunday was not the only time we used to grow our faith. We want to Go Beyond Sunday with the Stewardship of our Time. Now the Stewardship Commission invites us to Go Beyond Sunday with our finances as well. We thank all of you for your contributions to our capital campaign-a Future Full of Hope. Together we raised $6,730, 000 for the building of our new worship space. We also thank you for your regular support to our parish through the Sunday Collections. But what about other ministries organizations we can support? In what ways can you Go Beyond Sunday in sharing the financial resources entrusted to your care? The family of Theodore Graf would like to express our gra'tude to Fr Tom, Fr Sonny Day, for all of the prayers support during Ted s illness. In this session we will focus on the kind of people Jesus calls us to be. What difference would the great virtues make if we tried to prac'ce them? This session is less about what we should do more about who we should be. Tuesday Night. Me? A Disciple? Give Me a Break Much is spoken these days about missionary disciples. When Jesus calls us to be his witnesses what does he ask can we respond regardless of our own weaknesses doubts? Is it 'me to grow, to dare, to take a risk? Our mission presenter, David Wells, was born in Market Harborough, Engl. He was educated at St. Joseph s primary school there then at English Martyrs in Leicester. He speaks frequently throughout Engl, the United States Canada. His storytelling invites his audience to marvel at the wonders our God has brought into our lives. 7 Sacraments & Sacramental Preparation Baptisms: Typically celebrated at weekend Masses. A Baptism Preparation Session is required for parents. The next session is this Sunday, June 3, 2018 immediately following the 11:15 Mass at the St. Paul. Confessions: Available Friday mornings at 11:15am at the St. Joe Hill Saturdays at 4:15pm at the St. Paul. You may also contact Fr. Tom at to schedule an appointment. Marriage: Please contact Fr. Tom at at least six months prior to planned wedding date. The marriage preparation process will be explained at that time. Anointing of the Sick: If you are aware of an upcoming medical event for which you would like this sacrament, you may contact Fr. Tom to schedule the sacrament at In case of an emergency, contact Fr.
