For more info, call Dolores at Turkey Shoot 61 is in the books. Boy was it hot - 91 has to be one of the ho:est Turkey Shoots on record. This didn't keep the crowds away. We served about 2,300 chicken dinners and had a great day. Our unofficial net income will be approximately $58,000; we are sll waing for some final bills but we should land in this neighborhood. Great. Job. Everyone! It just shows you when 550 people get together what can be accomplished in 8 hours. To everyone who worked -- please add a zero to your pay. You deserve it. You should have noced some younger faces stepping up and leading our way to success. This year John and Tara Deines, along with Phil and Whitney Forbis, and Kate Majot worked hard to get things ready for everyone. What a great team we had. We could sll use some young adults to make this team even stronger. If you are interested, please step up. Our follow-up meeng will be Tuesday, November 13 at 7pm in the St. Joe Hill Hall meeng room. Everyone is invited to share your thoughts or ideas. It is an excing me here at St. John Paul II with all of the great things going on. Turkey Shoot is more than a fundraiser. It is a me to work with some great people and meet others from surrounding neighborhoods. I will leave you with these kind words from Kae Kruer: Working the booth is something I look forward to every year! I started volunteering in the dining room when I was 5 and have never looked back. This program has already had a posive impact on our Sunday collecon. I am hopeful that you will join other parishioners and sign up for this service. The program is a costeffecve way for the parish to receive donaons. For every family that has signed up with Faith Direct, we have been able to eliminate the cost of purchasing and mailing envelopes. This method has also reduced the handling of cash and checks in the office and has proven to be a safe and secure method of making a church offering. I share with you our concern about the economic situaon in which we now find ourselves. We very much feel the impact of the present economy. I am tremendously grateful that parishioners have remained consistent in their financial generosity to the parish. 4 St. John Paul II Catholic Church Go Beyond Sunday: Stewardship of our Talent Did you know that there are 82 different opportunies for ministry in our parish? Opportunies range from spending an hour in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament to cooking food for the homeless at a soup kitchen. In what way will you Go Beyond Sunday with your talents? What acvity might you join to help strengthen our parish and add fulfillment to your life? This weekend our Stewardship Commission invites you to take home our ministry booklet and page through its contents. Pray to God and ask God what he might be wanng to accomplish through your unique gias and talents. In each booklet you will find a commitment sheet that lists all of the various ministries in our parish (don t forget that some of them are on the back side of the paper). We ask that you fill out the commitment sheet (one per family is fine) and return it next week. When you come to church next week, hang on to your commitment sheet unl Fr. Tom invites all parishioners to bring them forward. Use the example below to fill out your form: Joe and Jane Doe and their daughter Lotsa are members of our parish. Joe currently serves on the St. Vincent DePaul CommiEee and wants to connue doing that. Mary and Lotsa are not acvely involved at this me, but Mary wants to join the quilters and Lotsa wants to start parcipang in Middle school acvies. Lotsa Lotsa X Once again, prayerfully fill out your form and return it next week. High School Boys Basketball Team now forming. The New Albany Deanery hosts an intramural high school basketball league from November through January. Parishes host teams and games are typically held on Sundays at various parishes in Clark, Floyd and Harrison Coun- es. Cost is $50 and covers team and player registraon fees. A current IHSAA Sports Physical and JPII release form are required to be on file to parcipate. Deadline to sign up is Oct. 29th. (My Dear Young Friends, saint mary s press) It is time to pass the baton Widows & Widowers (WOW) is a dynamic organizaon serving parishioners for over 14 years. New leadership is being recruited to offer the group a fresh start. Leadership involves planning acvies for the group, e.g., bowling, golf, day trips, and coordinang volunteer work with organizaons e.g., LifeSpan. The current group meets twice a month-typically the 2nd Friday at 6:30pm and 4th Sunday at 1:30pm. They also publish a monthly newsleeer highlighng scheduled acvies. 7 Sacraments & Sacramental Preparation Baptisms: Typically celebrated at weekend Masses. A Baptism Preparation Session is required for parents. The next session is December 2, 2018 immediately following the 11:15 Mass at the St. Paul. Confessions: Available Friday mornings at 11:15am at the St. Joe Hill and Saturdays at 4:15pm at the St. Paul. You may also contact Fr. Tom at to schedule an appointment. Marriage: Please contact Fr. Tom at at least six months prior to planned wedding date. The marriage preparation process will be explained at that time. Anointing of the Sick: If you are aware of an upcoming medical event for which you would like this sacrament, you may contact Fr. Tom to schedule the sacrament at In case of an emergency, contact Fr.
