Pick up your copy today and join the fun! Dear Friends, Happy Turkey Shoot Day! What an exci,ng,me in our parish. This event is the 61 st consecu,ve Turkey Shoot beginning at St. Joe Hill Parish in 1957! One of the primary advantages of a fundraiser like the Turkey Shoot is that it is a chance for our parishioners to work together for a common purpose. It is a reminder of what we can do when we are all moving in the same direc,on! Moving in the same direc,on has been so evident to me in the last five years. My hope and prayer is that we can con,nue working together to build God s kingdom. As you heard me men,on in Church last weekend, in December we are going to kick off a New Car Raffle. This raffle will be one of the biggest endeavors of our parish to date. Tickets will be sold for $30 a piece or 4 for $100. The top prize in the raffle will be a 2019 Ford F150, a 2019 Ford Explorer, or $40,000 cash. The raffle will be held on May 19, 2019 when we have the groundbreaking ceremony for our new Church. In addi,on to the grand prize, second prize on the day of the raffle is $2,500; third prize is $ 1,000 and 4 th through 7 th prizes will be $ But wait...there s more. On the first weekend of the month, January through May we will have early bird drawings. One,cket will be pulled out at each of those,mes and the winning,cket will win a $1,000 prize. That s a total of $5,000 in prizes before we ever get to the grand prize drawing. The proceeds from this raffle will go toward the new church and especially the stained glass window fund. For a raffle like this to be successful we need lots of people to sell lots of,ckets. I encourage you to begin to think now about who in your network of family and friends might be willing to take a $30 chance on a $40,000+ prize. With Faith Direct, you can make regular automac contribuons to St. John Paull II using your credit/debit card or bank account, the same process that you may use to pay ulity bills or make car payments. Making your donaons automacally means relief from the hassle of locang your offertory envelopes as you run out the door on Sunday morning, and guarantees that the church will receive your giis even if you are unable to a&end Mass. There is no fee to you, the parishioner, associated with use of the Faith Direct program. Automac contribuons greatly benefit St. John Paull II by providing a predictable cash flow as well as decreasing the me and money the church expends dealing with the envelope system. Faith Direct will provide you with personalized offertory cards that you may place in the basket, and a year-end tax statement. We find Faith Direct a win-win for both parishioners and our parish. 4 St. John Paul II Catholic Church A new small Group will begin on Sunday morning October 14 a?er the 11:15 am Mass in Gootee Hall (the church basement) at the St. Paul Campus. This group will be using the Six Weeks with the Bible Series, "Jesus the Healer" from 10/14-11/18. If you are interested in joining this group please call or Chris Miller at or cmmiller@aye.net * FOREVER LOVED Saturday, October 13 Mount St. Francis 5:30pm (by the lake) You are invited to share in a special ceremony for those whose lives have been touched by the loss of a child. Our Forever Loved remembrance service will honor those who were lost too soon through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, s0llbirth or infant death. The event is open to all family friends, healthcare professionals and the community. Inclement weather will move the service to the chapel. Bible Timeline: The Gospel of Ma hew We enjoyed the Bible Timeline so much, we're studying the Gospel of Ma hew next. This 24-week study of "Ma hew: The King and His Kingdom" (Ascension Press) will begin on Monday, October 15 and meet on Mondays at 6:30 pm at the St. Joe Hill Campus (Mark Room). The cost for materials is $30. This includes online access to the videos throughout the study. We would love for you to join us! Addi'onal Athle'c Opportunity Providence Basketball Academy Team Tryouts Who: All grade 5-8 boys a ending a New Albany deanery school who plan to a end Providence High School Where: Providence HS gymnasium When: October 14th and 21st, grades 5-6 3:30-5:30, grades 7-8 5:30-7:30 Costs: No costs for tryouts. Player fee for all boys selected will be $250. That covers team fees for 5-6 weekend tournaments and your uniform. These teams are being formed for boys that are bound for Providence for their high school days. It s an opportunity to start learning coach Smith s system of basketball. There will be a brief parent mee<ng at the beginning of each tryout led by Coach Smith. Boys are encouraged to try to a end both dates if possible. St. Joe the Worker helps to facilitate a basic car service program for registered parishioners who may be experiencing financial hardship or are on a fixed income. We know how important safe and reliable transporta<on is and we want to help! If your car s oil needs changed, <res need rotated, brakes need a en<on or the car is making weird noises, this program could be for you. A voucher is made available for a safety inspec<on, rou<ne maintenance or diagnos<cs performed at Advanced Auto Service at 105 S. Indiana Ave in Sellersburg, owned and? operated by parishioner Car Service Greg Sills. With voucher in hand, all you need to do is schedule an appointment at Advanced Auto Service they will take care of the rest. Call Barbara at the St. Paul Campus at with ques<ons or to pick up a voucher. All that is required is your name and license number of the car that needs service.

7 Sacraments & Sacramental Preparation Baptisms: Typically celebrated at weekend Masses. A Baptism Preparation Session is required for parents. The next session is October 14, 2018 immediately following the 11:15 Mass at the St. Paul. Confessions: Available Friday mornings at 11:15am at the St. Joe Hill and Saturdays at 4:15pm at the St. Paul. You may also contact Fr. Tom at to schedule an appointment. Marriage: Please contact Fr. Tom at at least six months prior to planned wedding date. The marriage preparation process will be explained at that time. Anointing of the Sick: If you are aware of an upcoming medical event for which you would like this sacrament, you may contact Fr. Tom to schedule the sacrament at In case of an emergency, contact Fr.
