If anyone knows of an existing impediment which would prevent this marriage, he/ she is bound to let the Rector know as soon as possible. 3 CONFIRMATION 2012 On October 20, the Most Reverend Edward M. Rice will confer the sacrament of Confirmation here at St. Francis de Sales Oratory. The ceremony will begin at 10:30am and all faithful are invited to attend. There will be a mandatory practice for all Confirmation candidates and their sponsors on October 19 at 6pm in the Church. OCTOBER: MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY Throughout the month of October we will pray the Holy Rosary every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in the presence of the exposed Blessed Sacrament at the St. Joseph s altar after Vespers, which start at 6:00pm. Please come and join us! This pious exercise is a source of strength and renewal for us individually and for the whole Church.

Please join us at Gravois and Ohio at Lynch Street (St. Francis de Sales) at noon on Saturday October 13, Together we will pray public rosaries that our national leaders would seek to honor God's Law and pray for the wisdom and knowledge necessary to solve America's complex problems. Public sin requires public reparation. 5 THE HOLY ROSARY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY This fall, from Sept. 26 to Nov. 4th, St. Louis will be uniting with other cities across North America and around the world for a massive coordinated pro-life mobilization the 40 Days for Life prayer and fasting campaign. People of faith are praying that, with God s grace, this effort will help bring an end to the tragedy of abortion. The most visible component of this campaign is to maintain a PEACEFUL, PRAYERFUL vigil in front of an abortion facility. The St. Louis Vigil location will be at Planned Parenthood, 4251 Forest Park Ave St. Francis de Sales Oratory has pledged to participate in the Prayer Vigil from 7am to 7pm on October 12th. At least two prayer volunteers are needed for each hour. Please check your calendars to see how you can help us fulfill this commitment. SAVE THE DATE GAUDETE BENEFIT GALA SATURDAY - DECEMBER 15, The history of the Holy Rosary is indeed a very interesting story. In the beginning, the Rosary probably began as a practice to imitate the monastic Divine Office, during the course of which the monks daily prayed the 150 Psalms. And instead of the 150 Psalms, they were substituted by 150 Hail Marys. Also, legend tells us that the rosary was a form of prayer which was given to St. Dominic by Mary. He preached a form of the rosary in France at the time heresy was devastating the Faith there. The Blessed Mother asked for the practice as an antidote for heresy and sin. Since then, the Blessed Mother never has ceased to work the miracles through the recitation of the Rosary. One of the most prominent miracles which the Blessed Mother worked was the miraculous victory of the Christian forces in the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, The feast of the Holy Rosary was introduced by Pope St. Pius V in the year On the day of the battle the Pope was discussing some business matters. Suddenly he lapsed into silence, went to his window and opening the large shutters, was lost in thought as he gazed out into the void. Then, recovering himself, he turned to the secretary and said: It is not the time for doing the business now. Let us return thanks to God. Our Army has even now defeated the Turkish fleet. Today is the 4th Anniversary of the elevation of the Institute of Christ the King to the permanent status of Pontifical Right.

Because the reception of Holy Communion is the sign of Divine and Ecclesial unity, only practicing Catholics who are free of mortal sin, and in full communion with the Catholic Church should present themselves for Holy Communion.
