Those desiring to receive this sacrament must contact the Vice-Rector, Canon Talarico, without delay. The Confirmation class will meet today after the 10:00am High Mass. Parents, sponsors, and visitors are encouraged to attend! The next class will be held on Sunday, May 17. COFFEE HOUR There will be no coffee hour on Mother s Day, May 10. The next coffee hours will be after the 10am High Mass on Sundays, May 17, May 31, June 14, etc. MAY CROWNING CEREMONY: MAY 10 All children are invited to participate in the May crowning ceremony in honor of Our Blessed Mother on Sunday, May 10 before the 10am Mass. There will be a short singing practice for participating children this Sunday, May 3, after the 10am Mass. MAY FAMILY DAY On Saturday, May 9, there will be a special family event. We will meet at the Shrine at 4:00pm for the May Crowning ceremony practice. Then at 4:30pm we will proceed to nearby Burnham Park at Promontory Point on the Lakefront (at 55th Street). After some sports we will then have an evening around the campfire with food, singing, and lots of good company. We hope to see you there! Please be sure to bring your favorite dish and/or meat. GREAT MASTERS OF SPIRITUALITY SERIES On Tuesday, May 19, there will be a spirituality class open to all adults & young people in the priory lower level reception room at 7:30pm. 3 ANNOUNCEMENTS & UPCOMING EVENTS SPRING CHAMBER CONCERT SERIES The second concert of this series will be presented on Sunday, May 17, at 3:00pm by the Amadeus Consort ( Admission is free! This concert of one hour will feature music of Bach, Vivaldi, Fesch, and Telemann for oboe and harpsichord. You will discover something unique...a treasury of delightful Italian classical music. The third concert will take place on Sunday, June 14, at 3pm. SPECIAL EVENT WITH CARDINAL GEORGE On Friday, June 12, at 5:00pm the Most Reverend Archbishop of Chicago, Francis Cardinal George, will offer Solemn Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament with Te Deum at the Shrine of Christ the King in thanksgiving for the Institute's reception of the Pontifical Rite status. Very Reverend Monsignor Gilles Wach, Prior General of the Institute will be present. Following the Liturgy all are invited to a festive reception in honor of His Eminence. INSTITUTE PILGRIMAGE TO HOLY HILL: MAY 23 On Saturday, May 23, the Institute is organizing a Midwest regional pilgrimage to the Basilica of Holy Hill in Wisconsin. Built in 1927 this historic neo- Romanesque basilica serves as the National Shrine to Our Lady Help of Christians, whose feast is celebrated on May 24. Join friends and faithful of the Institute apostolates in Milwaukee, Green Bay, Wausau, Rockford for this special event. Program for the Pilgrimage: 12:00pm Meeting in lower parking lot & departure of the procession 1:30pm Solemn High Mass in Basilica celebrated by Msgr. R. Michael Schmitz 3:00pm Brown bag picnic 4:00pm Benediction & spiritual meditation given by Monsignor Schmitz 5:30pm Dismissal A bus has been reserved for this trip. Please be assured of our profound gratitude for your charitable gift, which will allow our Institute to continue in its primary mission spreading the reign of Jesus Christ to all aspects of society. There is perhaps no action which God rewards more abundantly than the contribution to the formation of His priests. Please know that the many young men in formation at our seminary in Gricigliano, Italy, pray daily for you and your intentions. Holy Mass is offered each month in our seminary chapel for our benefactors, both living and deceased. Rogation Days are days during which we seek to ask God's mercy, appease His anger, avert His chastisements manifest through natural disasters, and ask for His blessings, particularly with regard to farming, gardening, and other agricultural pursuits. The Litany of the Saints are sung in a procession which precedes Mass. The vestments are of the penitential color violet, although the joyous alleluia can be heard at Mass. These Rogation day are divided between the Major Rogation -- April 25 (by coincidence alone, the Feast of St. Mark) -- and the Minor Rogation, which consists of the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before Ascension Thursday. The Major Rogation is of Roman origin, instituted by Pope St. Gregory the Great ( ) after a great plague besieged Rome. The Minor Rogation Days are of French origin, coming about in the 5th century, when St. Mamertus, Bishop of Vienne, instituted them after a series of natural calamities. Pope St. Leo III -- the Pope who crowned Charlemagne on Christmas Day of introduced these days of penance into Rome in 816, the year of his death. 5 HOLY INFANT KING NOVENA The Shrine of Christ the King was built in 1923 by renowned architect Henry Schlacks as St. Clara Church. Having barely escaped the wrecking ball, this magnificent historic landmark has been given to the care of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. With only provisional furnishings, the Shrine is already a haven for the transcendent beauty of the Extraordinary Form of the Latin Rite, dear to our beloved Pope Benedict XVI. The more you honor Me, the more I will bless you. Here, the Divine Infant King, real Symbol for Truth Lived in Charity, will be the center of liturgical worship and devotion. A seventeenth century statue of the Divine Infant King, donated by a generous benefactor, has been solemnly crowned and enthroned above the High altar of the Shrine by His Eminence Francis Cardinal George in December In honor of the Divine Infant King a Votive High Mass of the Nativity is celebrated at the Shrine at 7:00 pm on the 25th day of every month. In preparation for this monthly commemoration of the Infant King, a Novena prayer in His honor is recited after daily Mass from the 17th through the 25th of every month. Henceforth, I desire to serve Thee with fidelity and, for the love of Thee, O Divine Infant, I will love my neighbor as myself.
