As we have heard at the Spring Concert and on the newly released CD, choral music from the Oratory Choir is uplifting and joyful - a great treat for the heart, mind, and soul. Advent will be here soon enough. Please plan now to spend with family and friends a beautiful musical evening at The Sheldon, an intimate concert hall with great acoustics. As we all know, the United States is in great need of public prayer, repentance and conversion. We must ask God to save America through the Rosary of His Most Holy Mother. Please join us in praying for our nation on October 10th, 2015 at 12:00 Noon. The local Public Square Rosary will take place in front of St. Francis de Sales Oratory. Please contact the Rectory if you are interested in assisting. Ushers serve the entire community in a variety of important ways. They represent the Oratory in welcoming new comers; they guide unobtrusively during Offertory and Communion so as to ensure a prayerful atmosphere for all. Finally, their presence helps to bolster security in and around the church. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have generously served the Oratory in this capacity.

The selections include both classic and contemporary composers, and the beautiful singing truly reflects the Choir s goal to create beauty for God. With gratitude for the tremendous talents and hard work of our choir members and their director, we invite you to hear the choir s performance on this CD. T H R Apart from the signal defeat of the Albigensian heretics at the battle of Muret in 1213 which legend has attributed to the recitation of the Rosary by St. Dominic, it is believed that Heaven has on many occasions rewarded the faith of those who had recourse to this devotion in times of special danger. More particularly, the naval victory of Lepanto gained by Don John of Austria over the Turkish fleet on the first Sunday of October in 1571 responded wonderfully to the processions made at Rome on that same day by the members of the Rosary confraternity. St. Pius V thereupon ordered that a commemoration of the Rosary should be made upon that day, and at the request of the Dominican Order Gregory XIII in 1573 allowed this feast to be kept in all churches which possessed an altar dedicated to the Holy Rosary. In 1671 the observance of this festival was extended by Clement X to the whole of Spain, and somewhat later Clement XI after the important victory over the Turks gained by Prince Eugene on 6 August, 1716 (the feast of our Lady of the Snows), at Peterwardein in Hungary, commanded the feast of the Rosary to be celebrated by the universal Church. An appropriate Will or Trust provision would be: "I give to The Friends of St. Francis de Sales Oratory, Inc., St. Louis, Missouri, for the Oratory's unrestricted use." S O E Packets of contribution envelopes are sent out each month to all registered households of the Oratory. These envelopes provide a means for the faithful to financially provide for Oratory operating expenses and our many programs. We are required by law to report our income and expenditures and these donation envelopes greatly assist the office staff with record keeping. At the end of each year, a letter of appreciation with the donated amount totals is sent to all registered members of the Oratory that can be used for tax purposes. 5 O 25 S C On the Feast of Christ the King, primary patronal feast of the Institute, we will take up a second collection for our seminary in Gricigliano. Your donations will help the Institute to maintain the seminary buildings. This collection is therefore distinct from the other collections which benefit the Seminary Society and the efforts to help with tuitions for our seminarians. Your generosity is truly appreciated and always remembered by our canons who spent important years of their formation at our International Seminary in Tuscany. R : R E Under no circumstances should you ever push the emergency button or other floor levels while the motor of the elevator is running and the elevator is moving. This will cause the motor of the elevator to stop and for the person riding to get stuck in the elevator. If for some reason the elevator does get stuck, push the bell button to make others aware that you are in there. Again, do not panic and start pushing other buttons. This will only make the condition of the elevator worse, both now and in the future. Thank you for doing your part to help keep our elevator in good condition for as long as possible. R S Driving assistance is needed to assist a new resident in Missouri who would like to attend Mass at the Oratory. They live in Robertsville, which is SW of Pacific/Eureka and SE of Union. They would be very happy to meet at a mutually convenient location so you would not have to go out of your way. If you would be able to assist this person occasionally, please contact the Rectory at (314) Thank you for your assistance. I A The Oratory s biggest annual financial obligation is that of our property and liability insurance assessment. Our insurance assessment for the fiscal year was $90, This payment was made on time, consisting of $400/ week set aside from collections ($20,800), donations from our envelope program for this purpose ($12,712.19). To reach the total of $90,777.00, the remainder amount ($56,289.81) was drawn from our collection surplus and other funds previously set aside for other projects. The insurance assessment for the fiscal year is $89, We will publish regular updates on the progress in our efforts to collect this amount over this coming year. Because the reception of Holy Communion is the sign of Divine and Ecclesial unity, only practicing Catholics who are free of mortal sin, and in full communion with the Catholic Church should present themselves for Holy Communion.
