HERMANN, at St. Francis de Sales Oratory on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2014, AT 10:00AM. A Solemn High Mass in the presence of His Excellency will be celebrated afterwards. Catechism classes preparing for this day will be held beginning on THURSDAY, MAY 1ST AT 5:00PM FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2014 This year s celebration of First Holy Communion will take place on May 11th (Mother s Day) at 10:00AM. Please contact the office if you wish to register your child. STATIONS OF THE CROSS FRIDAYS DURING LENT During Lent there will be a 6:30PM Mass each Friday evening, followed by the Stations of the Cross. The evening Masses celebrated on Fridays in Lent are regularly Votive Masses of the Instruments of the Holy Passion of Our Lord: Of the Crown of Thorns, Of the Lance and the Nails, Of the Most Holy Shroud, Of the Five Holy Wounds, and Of the Precious Blood. On Fridays during Lent when a Solemn High Mass will be celebrated (March 21, feast of St. Benedict), Stations of the Cross will start at 5:30PM. BENEVOLENT SOCIETY NO COFFEE HOUR AFTER 8:00AM MASS The St. Francis de Sales Benevolent Society will have their semi-annual breakfast following the 8:00 Mass today. Therefore there will be no coffee hour today after the 8:00 Mass. SURSUM CORDA YOUNG ADULT GROUP A one-day Lenten retreat will be offered at the Oratory, on Saturday, March 22, Please come. The schedule is as follows: 2:00pm - Holy Mass at the Oratory 2:50pm - Retreat (2 episodes from Catholicism of Fr. Barron, one talk, & rosary) 7:30pm - Dinner, followed by group discussion 9:00pm - End of evening

4 EPISCOPAL VISITS His Grace, Archbishop Carlson, will visit the Oratory twice this year: On Sunday, May 25, the Archbishop will come to be present during the 10:00AM High Mass and to pronounce the sermon. Again on Sunday, October 19, at 5:00PM, His Grace will come to us as the guest of honor for a procession with the relic of St. Louis, Solemn Vespers and Benediction, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of our city and the 800th birth anniversary of King St. Louis. Call the rectory to speak with Canon Wiener or Canon Ueda MATCHING GIFT One of the stained glass windows in the sanctuary was damaged in a wind storm last November. We have insurance coverage to repair the damage caused by the storm, but once the scaffold is in place, it would be cost-effective to do additional repairs for the long term health of this window. We would need to fund this work separately. A generous offer was presented to us to provide a matching gift of $2,500 if we can raise $2,500. This $5,000 would be useful for this stained glass window extra repair work and would help to provide for this window well into the future. If possible, please provide donations to this special opportunity to improve at least one of our important windows. 5 CHOIR CAMP 2014 AUGUST 18-23, 2014 The Institute s Choir Camp 2014 will take place during the third week of August and will be held again in Kentucky at Mount Saint Joseph, the Motherhouse of the Ursuline Order. As in previous years, the campers will be immersed in an authentically Catholic setting of study, prayer, and play, under the guidance of faculty members led by Mr. Botkins, Abbé Alex and other adult counselors. The campers daily routine will include studying vocal technique, Gregorian chant, Latin and composition; assisting at daily Mass in the Extraordinary Form; Rosary walks; chanting the Litany of the Sacred Heart, and many opportunities to work together, play together, and perform. A priest of the Institute will be present for daily Mass and confessions. The intensive training from previous camps has already borne rich fruits, and contributed significantly to the beautiful liturgy we experience every Sunday at St. Francis de Sales Oratory. As do many eager campers, we look forward to a fruitful Choir Camp 2014! Registration starts on March 7. Please contact the rectory office if you are interested.
