3 Mass Requests for Concelebration Our Concelebrated Mass Intention List is getting low. Each weekday morning, two Priests offer Mass at St. Anthony s Chapel. One offers the scheduled intention, and one takes an intention from the extra Mass intention list. Once the concelebrated Mass is offered, the list is put into the bulletin on the first weekend of each month. Our Mass Intention list for concelebration is becoming depleted. Our prayers for the dead help our loved ones work through their experience of Purgatory. The Mass is the best prayer for this. Masses may also be offered for the living for special intentions or as a Spiritual Bouquet for their benefit as God sees best. To request a Mass, simply mostholyname@hotmail.com or call Becky at , ext. 0 with your intention and the month desired. The usual offering is $10.00 and checks made payable to Most Holy Name Parish. Where are the other nine?" Jesus had worked a miracle of healing for ten people afflicted with leprosy. They had cried out for him to have pity on them, and he did. But only one member of this group took the time to return to Jesus, fall at his feet, and thank him. Why? Perhaps some were so busy rejoicing that they forgot to give thanks. Perhaps others thought they deserved to be healed and thus did not think in terms of gratitude for the miracle. Maybe some in the group weren't sure that the healing was going to last. Or, possibly, some of them were just selfish and lazy. Whatever the case, Jesus affirms the one man who does the right thing: "Stand up and go; your faith has saved you." Jesus thus establishes this Samaritan man as our example. We too are to glorify "God in a loud voice" for all that he has done for us. So, what exactly has God done for us? What are the miracles in our lives that we have failed to notice, to believe, or to appreciate? Undoubtedly the answers will be different for everyone, with one main exception: we are all called to give thanks for the gift of life, of course. This is the first miracle God worked on our behalf! Bringing us into existence to live and love is a gift we might tend to take for granted. But surely, we can be thankful for more. We would all do well to reflect on the multitude of God's gifts in our lives. Sometimes we have to pause long enough to think and recognize those things we should be grateful for. But a little effort in this regard is well worth it to avoid being like the ungrateful lepers. Instead, may we be the ones who give thanks where thanks is due. Catholic Community Food Bank The Catholic Community Food Bank continues to serve the needs of those in our community. The 3rd Tuesday of each month from 10:00 am to noon, will be the designated day for distributions. Tuesday, October 18th is the next distribution date. In their statement on Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, the U.S. Catholic bishops urge Catholics to form their consciences through being open to truth, studying Scripture and Church teaching, examining facts and background information, and prayerful r e f l e c t i o n ( n o. 1 8 ). V i s i t to learn about the steps you can take to form your conscience, watch videos and access other great resources on conscience formation for faithful citizens. Parish Mission with Fr Donald Ware Saturday and Sunday October 29 and 30 As we approach the end of the Holy Year of Mercy, it's a good time to reflect back: how we showed God's mercy to others, the ways in which we need His mercy every day. On the weekend of October 29 and 30th, Fr. Ware will preach at Masses at Most Holy Name Church and St Aloysius Church, on the subject of Jesus: The Mercy of God. Fr. Ware is an excellent speaker from the Passionist Fathers of St Paul of the Cross Monastery, South Side. Directly after 11AM Mass on Sunday, at St. Aloysius, he will open the Rite of Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration. We will have silent adoration until 3PM. At that time, Fr. Ware will give his main talk on Growing Our Prayer Life...How and Why, which will be 40 minutes in length. Benediction will follow. After the closing prayers, please join us in St. Aloysius Social Hall for some afternoon tea and light refreshments. Sitters Needed: Please see the sign up sheet in the churches for Sitters during Eucharist Adoration on October 30th. The practice of Eucharistic Adoration 67. With the Synod Assembly, therefore, I heartily recommend to the Church's pastors and to the People of God the practice of Eucharistic adoration, both individually and in community. (194) Great benefit would ensue from a suitable catechesis explaining the importance of this act of worship, which enables the faithful to experience the liturgical celebration more fully and more fruitfully. Wherever possible, it would be appropriate, especially in densely populated areas, to set aside specific churches or oratories for perpetual adoration. I also recommend that, in their catechetical training, and especially in their preparation for First Holy Communion, children be taught the meaning and the beauty of spending time with Jesus, and helped to cultivate a sense of awe before his presence in the Eucharist.
