3 At Home with the Lord Remember Lord and welcome into your Kingdom those who have died and gone before us marked in the sign of faith, especially Norma Long Please pray for the consolation of her loved ones. Daily Mass will be held during Convocation All the Priests of the Diocese will gather for a Convocation in Oglebay, West Virginia from Monday, September 19 through Thursday, September 22. Please note that there will be 8:30 am Mass held each day in St. Anthony s Chapel. We will have the following scheduled Priests: Tuesday, September 20: Fr. Larry Smith Wednesday, September 21: Fr. David Moczulski Thursday, September 22: Fr. Reginald Russo Mass Intention Correction The Mass Intentions were announced incorrectly at the Masses at Most Holy Name Parish last weekend. The scheduled intentions were listed correctly in the bulletin and were honored by Fr. Jim Orr and should have been announced as: 6:00 pm: For William Straka 7:30 am: Bill & Ed Bartolowits 9:00 am: For the Parishes Eucharistic Adoration & Veneration of the Relic of St. Hedwig at St. Anthony's Chapel On Sunday, October 4 at 3:00 pm, we will begin to pray the Church's evening prayer before Christ in the Eucharist. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the monstrance at the beginning of evening prayer and the service will conclude with Benediction, Christ imparting His blessing to us in His Eucharistic Presence. Following the service, the faithful who wish to do so will have the opportunity to venerate a relic of one of the saints. For October, it will be the relic of St. Hedwig, whose feast day is on October 16. Mass Attendance September 10 & 11 Saturday: 246 Sunday: 319 Total attendance at both churches: 565 From the desk of Fr. Jim The 150th Anniversary meeting was a great opportunity to brainstorm about the celebration of this important milestone in Most Holy Name s history. One of the principle ideas surfaced was to make this a year long celebration. There is a kind of bookends of celebrations to go with this. June 2017 marks the 125th of the completion of St. Anthony Chapel and the death of Fr. Mollenger. June 2018 is the 150th of the founding of Most Holy Name Parish. The year between becomes then the canvas upon which we build the celebration. Each month can be an opportunity to celebrate a different facet of the parish s history. Ideas are floating as to when and how each celebration will happen. One of these will be the Parish s Name Day, The Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus which does fall on January 3rd. In spite of the possibility of inclement weather, it was thought that the day was too important given the 150th anniversary commemoration not to celebrate in some fashion. There are other ideas out there and there is certainly room for more contributions. It is important to me that this be a celebration of the people of the parish and for the parish. It is in line with this that one idea came up that I nixed last June but came up again. The thought was to have the celebratory dinner at The Priory after the Mass in June of The historic connection between old St. Mary s and MHN was the rational. The problem is the cost per person would be $ I thought that was way too expensive. I did some checking with the Regional Vicar, the Vicar General of the Diocese and the Finance Council. They all agreed that is was not a good idea. While we will have a celebratory dinner after the June 2018 Mass, it will be in the School Social Hall and catered in such a way to make a true celebration worthy of the occasion. The next 150th planning meeting will be Thursday, September 29th at 7pm in the School Social Hall. It is an open meeting. You are welcome to attend. God bless all of you. Pax, Fr. Jim

Please call Carol Fulton at WHY DO WE DO THAT? CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED Question: The third Sunday of September is referred to as Catechetical Sunday. What is the meaning of that term and why do we celebrate Catechetical Sunday? "Catechesis" comes from a Greek word meaning "to echo." It challenges all of us to develop a Catholic identity modeled on Jesus. We learn this from those who handed down that faith to us. We echo that back by the living example of our lives. Catechesis is handing down that tradition to others, hoping they can echo that back in their own lives. The presumption is that we do have something to hand on; this calls each of us to grow in faith and knowledge, and to share that with others. The mission of the church reflects the mission of Jesus to teach, preach, heal, and forgive. The task of handing on the Gospel is entrusted to the whole community who, by word and example, form young and new members in the way of the Gospel. This ministry reminds the church that preaching the Gospel and growing in faith are essential to our sacramental practice and our liturgical prayer. On this Sunday, each of us is called to renew our own commitment to grow in faith and knowledge, taking seriously our mission together as the pilgrim people of God. Whether or not we literally teach, all of us are teachers in the way we live. What are we echoing?
