Mass of Anointing at St. Anthony s Chapel Sunday, May 22nd The Sacrament of the Sick will be administered during a special Mass on Sunday, May 22nd at 1:00 pm at St. Anthony s Chapel. This administration of the sacrament of the sick in this context is offered for those Catholics who are experiencing physical ailments of a serious nature: those who will be undergoing surgery for serious reasons, the elderly who have become notably weakened even though no serious illness is present, those who are battling serious illnesses and have not been anointed recently, and children who have reached the age of reason and are seriously ill. In this beautiful and heartfelt prayer to God the Father, Jesus expresses his deep desire for unity. He prays that "those who will believe in me... may all be one." This unity is meant to be an effect of the love that believers experience through their own unity with God. When we are filled with the love of God, we can truly be united to one another. Why? Because God's love loves everyone. God's love sees the dignity of every human person, made in his own image. God's love does not allow room for grudges and schisms. It is always ready to forgive and embrace. This kind of love leads to the interpersonal unity that Jesus prayed we would have for one another. But, alas, we get into fights. We argue, we criticize, we take revenge. We cause division where there ought to be unity. It's especially tragic when this happens among Christians. Whether it be petty infighting in a parish setting, family strife among those who practice the same faith, or animosity among Catholics and members of other Christian denominations, it matters little. All of these situations stand in stark contrast to the unity that Jesus desired for us. Being instruments of this true Christian unity begins in our own hearts. Instead of finding fault in others, we would do well to ask ourselves how open we truly are to God's love. Have we, like Jesus, prayed that this divine love would be in us? Have we tried to look upon others with the loving eyes of God? When we approach the inevitable conflicts in life with a heart full of God's love, we can begin to serve as ambassadors of the unity that Christ so deeply desired. 4 Thirteen Tuesday Novena The Annual Thirteen Tuesday Novena in honor of St. Anthony of Padua has begun and will continue through June 7th. This week will be week # 9. Mass and Novena are held at 8:30 a.m. Novena and Benediction are held at 7:30 p.m. This Novena has helped many in their time of need. CCD News Mary Ann Dank, our CCD Director, would like to make banners representing CCD and she is asking for donations of material in solid colors. Colors desires are: White, yellow, gold, green, purple and red. If you have material that you would like to donate to this project, please drop it off at the rectory. Thank you. Vacation Bible School Vacation Bible School will take place June 27 July 1 from 9:00am to Noon at Saint Aloysius. This summer's theme is Barnyard Roundup. All children from age 3 to those completing grade 5 are invited to attend. Each day will be filled with Bible stories, crafts, games, music, and snacks. Registration fee is $5 per child and the registration form can be found on the parish website or at the offices. Volunteers are needed for this to be successful. If you have questions, or would like to volunteer, please contact Mary Ann Dank at Donations needed: We are in need of donations of snacks such as pretzels, tortilla and potato chips, fruit and jello cups, muffins, snack cakes, and also bottles of water (preferably the small bottles). If you can donate anything please drop it off at either parish office or leave it in the back of either church - please just mark it "VBS." THANK YOU! VBS Meeting: Anyone interested in helping at VBS this year, we will have a meeting on Monday, May 16th at 7:00pm at Most Holy Name in the classroom. Catholic Community Food Bank The Catholic Community Food Bank continues to serve the needs of those in our community. The 3rd Tuesday of each month from 10:00 am to noon, will be the designated day for distributions. Tuesday, May 17th is the next distribution date. Second Collection Next Weekend Next week, our parish will take up The Catholic Relief Services Collection. This collection supports six Catholic agencies that touch more than 100 million lives around the world, including food to the hungry, support to displaced refugees, and Christ s love and respect to all people. Please give generously to The Catholic Relief Services Collection and help Jesus in disguise. As we approach Armed Forces Day (May 21) please remember in your prayers those men and women who serve in the Armed Forces, their families and their loved ones.
