3 From the Desk of Fr. Jim Thanks to all those who worked and supported the St. Aloysius Christian Mothers Bingo this past Saturday. Thanks too to all those who worked and supported the Most Holy Name October fest. These kind of events certainly help with the fund raising but more importantly build community in the parishes. Parish Share for both parishes proceeds apace. St. Aloysius has met its goal for the year so anything that is paid from now on comes back to us tax free. Most Holy Name still has $19,000 to go before the goal is met. That s not bad. If we can keep up the effort, Most Holy Name can also start receiving tax free returns on PSP. Thank you for your generosity. On Mission update...this past Monday the priests of the diocese met and we were given the dates on announcements and implementation. We are currently in the Consultation Phase of the process. At this point interviews with the Priests are going on concerning eventual assignments. The On Mission Commission is going through the data to make recommendations for parish groupings. These recommendations will be submitted to the Priest Council who will need to approve them before submitting them to the Bishop. These submissions and approvals will happen in a number of packets. The Bishop will then receive these and on Thursday April 26, 2018 he will announce his decisions. This announcement will cover the final parish groupings, whether a parish is in Group A which has 2 years to form a parish, Group B which has 3 years or Group C which has 5 years. Priestly assignments will be announced and the number of Masses for each group. At this point no parishes will be closed. At this time the Transition phase will begin. In this phase the incoming clergy will meet with the outgoing clergy to gain an understanding of the parishes. Mass schedules will be determined. Parish staffing will not change as the parishes are still separate. On October 15, 2018 the changes take effect. The new priest in charge will be made Administrator of each of the parishes in his group. No parishes close as yet. Now begins the Implementation Phase. In the 2,3,or 5 years that follow the local group of parishes meet and come to a decision on how the new parish will look: what Churches, school buildings, and other facilities will be used and which will not be. These will be submitted to the Bishop who will canonically enact the decisions. So we know when we just need to get from here to there. May God walk with us Pax, Fr. Jim World Mission Sunday TODAY IS WORLD MISSION SUNDAY a day that leads us to the heart of our Christian faith leads us to mission! Your generosity on World Mission Sunday supports the work of priests, religious and lay leaders in the Missions who share our faith with those most in need. This year we can even chat with our chief missionary, Pope Francis, and learn more about his missions and missionaries. Learn more at ChatWithThe- Pope.org. Chat Pray Give this World Mission Sunday. Saint Anthony Chapel Rosary Saint Anthony Chapel has custom-made rosaries available for sale. These Italian-made rosaries feature images of the chapel. The crucifix is a replica of the monstrance which has a piece of the true cross, the centerpiece depicts the Virgin Mary and Reliquaries, and the Our Father medals has images of St. Anthony s statue and the Christ s cross relic. The beads come in 4 varieties: Tigerseye, hematite, aurora borealis crystal and pink faux pearls.

4 Religious Education Schedule Class time: 10:15 11:30 am Sunday, October 22 - Regular Class Sunday, October 29 - Regular Class Sunday, November 5 - Regular Class Women and Men Sharing Faith and Hope Just a reminder that we will not meet on Monday, October 23rd. Our next meeting will be on Monday, October 30th at 7:00 p.m. at Most Holy Name. Please read Session Three, Chapters 5 and 6, (pages 41-54) and look at the discussion questions on pages Ladies of Charity Meeting Our next Ladies of Charity meeting is on Wednesday, October 25th, at 6:30 at Most Holy Name School. Schedule for All Saints (Holy Day of Obligation) Tuesday, October 31: 4:00 pm Most Holy Name Church Wednesday, November 1: 8:30 am St. Anthony s Chapel Wednesday, November 1: 7:00 pm St. Aloysius Church Called by Name At Baptism we are given a name by which we a known not only to our family and friends, but also to God. Like Cyrus in today s first reading, throughout our lives God calls us by name as he asks us to follow him and to be his instrument in the world. As God calls us by our name and we call out to him as Abba (Father) we recognize how intimately God loves us. It also reveals that we are all sisters and brothers in the family of faith and heirs to the kingdom of God. On Mission for The Church Alive! is our opportunity to build up and strengthen the family of faith in the Diocese of Pittsburgh as we look for ways to extend our hearts to each other as God extends his heart to us. Of course, family relationships aren t always perfect and can take hard work to grow stronger. We will have to work hard to strengthen the family of faith in our parishes, but it will be worth it as we journey together towards God s kingdom. Get to know those who sit near you at Mass, who gather in fellowship after Mass or even people from churches near you and allow your heart to expand in love. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed. Mass Requests for 2018 The Mass Intention Record Book for 2018 will open officially on November 3rd. Requests for both Most Holy Name and St. Aloysius Parishes will be taken on a first - come, first - serve basis in the order in which this form is received at the Parish Office, beginning Friday, November 3rd. A Mass Request Form will be inserted in the bulletin next weekend for your convenience. The form will also be available for download on the parish websites. Each family may request one mass on the weekend and one on a weekday until all requests have been satisfied. In January of 2018, we will open the Mass book up to the public for the remaining Masses. If you are anticipating a special family event in 2018 (silver or golden wedding anniversary) and wish to schedule a Mass, please use the form and turn in your request ASAP. Please note that your $10 Mass Donation must accompany the request form. Also, one Mass every Sunday must be scheduled for the intentions of our parishioners, known as For the Parishes, as required by Canon Law and diocesan statue. The Most Holy Name St. Vincent DePaul Society is seeking new members! Are you looking to expand your relationship with God as well as help your fellow needy neighbors? We can use your help. The St. Vincent de Paul Society is a nonprofit agency that acts quickly to resolve problems without fanfare and or red tape. We provide assistance to anyone living in our area needing help with food, furniture, clothes, rental help or utility assistance. We visit the needy person or family member in two person teams to consult, confer, recommend and improve their basic situation regardless of gender, age, race, or religion. Our volunteers generally work one week per month and if you believe you could assist us in helping a needy person or family. If you are interested, call Ted at for more information. God Bless You.

11 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time October 21 & 22, 2017 A Family Perspective By Bud Ozar -Jesus was exasperated when he asked: Why do you put me to the test? It is natural for children to test parents; this is how they learn and how we teach limits, rules and values. Be like Jesus in today s gospel; he was firm, honest and direct. St. Vincent de Paul Society - In the Gospel today Jesus says: Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. When God is the center of our lives there is no problem with giving others their due. Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you are helping your neighbor who is hungry, hopeless and frightened to know that they belong to God.
