3 Eucharistic Adoration & Veneration of the Relic of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton at St. Anthony's Chapel On Sunday, January 8th at 3:00 pm, we will begin to pray the Church's evening prayer before Christ in the Eucharist. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the monstrance at the beginning of evening prayer and the service will conclude with Benediction, Christ imparting His blessing to us in His Eucharistic Presence. Following the service, the faithful who wish to do so will have the opportunity to venerate a relic of one of the saints. For January, it will be the relic of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton whose feast day is January 4th. The Ambrose-Romanos Singers will lead the Singing of Solemn Second Evening Prayer & Benediction for the Solemnity of the Epiphany of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The choir will sing a 15- minute pre-service program of baroque music for the feast, followed by sung Evening Prayer. A free will offering will be accepted at the door. For more information, please visit the Chapel s website Upcoming Second Collection The Pittsburgh Diocese is home to two nationally recognized educational programs for children with special needs: St. Anthony School Programs and DePaul School for Hearing and Speech (formerly known as The DePaul Institute). A special collection to benefit these two organizations will be taken the weekend of January at all Masses at each parish. Your donation will help St. Anthony School Programs and DePaul School for Hearing and Speech to further their goals of providing quality educational programs and services to their students. Pope Francis Monthly Prayer Intention for January Christian Unity: That all Christians may be faithful to the Lord s teaching by striving with prayer and fraternal charity to restore ecclesial communion and by collaborating to meet the challenges facing humanity. Gospel Meditation The Epiphany of the Lord "And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was." In our day and age, the star of Christmas has become a kind of decorative symbol that adorns manger scenes and Christmas trees. It suggests something good and bright and holy, a visual indicator that the "Light of the world" has appeared. But today, on the feast of the Epiphany, we recall that originally, this star was not just a pretty symbolic ornament. This star was a sign from God that intervened in the operations of the physical universe. The Magi understood that this star was sent from God to indicate where his Son would be born. Of course it should not surprise us in this season of all seasons that God should choose to order the universe according to his purposes. Jesus has just been born of a virgin! God has just taken on human flesh. These events in themselves are extraordinary divine interventions--miracles that defy the standard operation of things. Why shouldn't God choose to send a luminous star where he wants it, when he wants it? Why shouldn't he reveal his plan through the things that he created in the first place? The beauty of today's feast is found, in part, in the fact that the Magi were able to recognize this sign from God. They waited for it, they saw it, and they rejoiced in it: "They were overjoyed at seeing the star." We too should be overjoyed in this season of God's special revelation to us. We may need the eyes to recognize it, but truly we have waited for a Savior, we have seen his appearance at Christmas, and now it is time to celebrate! God is at work in our physical world. Cancellations due to weather will be posted on WPXI Channel 11 CCD News Greetings! We finished out our first semester of CCD with a wonderful celebration. The students from Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic came and presented a Christmas pageant for us. It was truly a magical and a very heartfelt experience. They did a wonderful job. We finished our collections. Together, we raised $281 for the Children's Hospital Free Care Fund and 479 items were collected for out local food pantry. Thank you to everyone for contributing in these worthwhile projects The eighth graders will make their Confirmation on February 21st and they will have a mandatory retreat on January 16th. All paperwork is due as soon as possible. If you need additional copies or have questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Catholic Community Food Bank The Catholic Community Food Bank continues to serve the needs of those in our community. Most Holy Name Church Dance Committee Hidden Treasures News Moving forward to the end of the year, the volunteers at Hidden Treasures have asked that you hold your donations. They will not take donations during January due to the house being closed. They will accept donations once again beginning Wednesday, February 1st.
