3 At Home with the Lord Remember Lord and welcome into your Kingdom those who have died and gone before us marked in the sign of faith, especially Francis Frank Rudzki Please pray for the consolation of his loved ones. A Prayer for Married Couples By. Fr. Scott Seethaler Dear God, unite us in faith, standards of morality and mutual trust. Help us to quickly come to mutual agreements about our finances, our children, how we spend our time and any other decisions that need to be made. Adjust our perspectives to align with Yours. Make our communication open and honest so that we avoid misunderstandings. May we have the grace to be tolerant of each other s faults, and at the same time have the willingness to change. Help us to be a team and not live two separate lives. Remind us to take time for one another so that our marriage will be a source of happiness, peace and joy for both of us. Amen. Influenza and the Liturgy When cold and flu season approaches, the Department for Worship receives numerous inquiries regarding influenza and the liturgy. Two thoughts are important: using common sense and belief in Jesus Christ. Ours is a tactile religion and contact is inevitable and so common sense should be employed. There often seems to be a greater concern about germs at Mass than anywhere else. Ensuring regular hand washing or use of a hand sanitizer is a good practice without being overly scrupulous about either. Further, our faith and trust in Jesus Christ reminds us that with proper considerations and prudent precautions, our Eucharistic Lord will not be detrimental to our health. Reminder If the Mass Intention is for your family member, and you wish to take up the gifts, please tell one of the Ushers how many people you have so they can adjust accordingly to accommodate you. From the desk of Fr. Jim Some more suggestions on how to show Mercy in this Holy Year of Mercy. 1) Make a meal (or buy a gift certificate) for a Mom who has just given birth or adopted a child, or for someone who s just gone through a loss. 2) Offer to run an errand (groceries, dog walking, etc) for a busy parent or homebound person. 3) Take advantage of sales to buy small toothpastes, soaps, shampoos, socks, feminine products, and the like. Make up small bags of these and donate them to agencies for the poor and homeless. 4) Pray a novena for someone you dislike. Doing any of these or the ones in previous bulletins are ways we can live Christ s commandments of love and be merciful as our heavenly Father is merciful. There is going to be a major change in how we will be celebrating the Easter Triduum this Year. After consultation with the Worship Committees of both Parishes and the Pastoral Councils of both Parishes, we will be celebrating The Triduum cooperatively between the Parishes. As we have decided, Most Holy Name will host the Mass of the Lord s Supper on Holy Thursday and the Solemn Commemoration of the Lord s Passion on Good Friday. St. Aloysius will host the Easter Vigil. This decision came about because of poor attendance at the Triduum. The hope is that with this all those who have attended these in the past will join together for a more complete celebration. Holy Thursday Adoration will still happen in both parishes. All the other services will happen as in the past. Only the three principle celebrations will be held in common between the parishes. Next year we will switch and St. Aloysius will host Holy Thursday and Good Friday and MHN will host Easter Vigil and so will switch back and forth through the years. Pax, Fr. Jim Mass Attendance February 6 & 7 Saturday: 258 Sunday: 371 Total attendance at both churches: 629

Yurochko, JCL, STL of the Tribunal Office of the Diocese of Pittsburgh will be providing a 45-minute presentation at Our Lady of Grace Parish, Scott Twp., on Tuesday, February 16. The purpose of the talk is to provide information about the nullity process and help those wanting to begin the process to do so by receiving the initial paperwork. The talk is directed toward those who have a desire for adult education regarding this often misunderstood subject. People involved in RCIA as teachers or directors may have a special interest in attending this talk. Registration is not required, but please let us know that you are coming by calling or tribunal@diopitt.org. St. Anthony Chapel & The Year of Mercy Saint Anthony Chapel is one of two places in the Diocese of Pittsburgh where one may gain the privilege of The Holy Year of Mercy Plenary Indulgence; the other is St. Paul Cathedral. A detailed pamphlet is available at the Chapel that outlines the conditions for gaining the Holy Year Indulgence. For more information, please visit the page on our Diocese website:

5 Lenten Bible Study Consider making this time to openness to God s Word a part of your Lenten observance this year. There are two opportunities for spiritual enrichment this Lent: Thursdays in Lent - Deacon Greg Jelinek will facilitate a Bible Study each Thursday in MHN School at 7:00 pm. Passion Narratives - Conducted by Fr. Jim Orr on Mondays, February 22 & 29 and March 7 & 14 at 7:00 pm in MHN School. Please bring a bible. Stations of the Cross Stations of the Cross will be held during the Lenten Season on the following: Fridays at Noon - St. Aloysius Church Fridays at 7:00 pm - St. Anthony s Chapel Sundays at 3:00 pm - St. Anthony s Chapel The Light is On for You! The Light is On for You! is an initiative of the Diocese of Pittsburgh to encourage Catholics to avail themselves of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Confession is a wonderful opportunity to set aside our sinful ways and to draw closer to our Lord. Confession will be available on Wednesday, March 09 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in every Catholic parish in the Diocese. LADIES OF CHARITY SOCK DRIVE The SOCK DRIVE will begin on Ash Wednesday and will end on Easter. Socks came to mind because of the Holy Thursday tradition of Washing of the Feet. We keep in touch with the homeless shelters and they have told us they always need socks. We will be collecting socks for men, women and children. All socks should be new. They can be white socks, colored socks, wool socks, cotton socks, cute socks for kids etc. Men and women s socks will go to homeless shelters and the children s socks will go to Providence Connections, a ministry on the North Side involved with at risk families with children. The Director told us the children always need socks. So watch for the bin in church labeled Sock Drive beginning on Ash Wednesday and once again, thank you! Prayer, Fasting, Almsgiving When I was first in parish work, I remember the parish priest talking with the schoolchildren about the topic of Lent and prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. He asked them if any of them knew what fasting was. After a very long wait, one student raised his hand and said, "It is what I do when my Mom is mad at me. I run really fast!" The adults in the assembly burst into laughter. Laughter is good. However, the Lenten devotions of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are very serious practices for us as we prepare to celebrate the Easter mysteries. As our catechumens prepare for the Easter sacraments, we are called by the Church to model what it means to be a Catholic Christians. We are called, especially during this Lenten season, to pray, fast, and give from the wealth we have to those who need our assistance. This season is not merely a season of obligation to act more intently as God calls us to act; it is a season of opportunity to practice the foundation of our faith more attentively: prayer, fasting, almsgiving. Mass Requests for Concelebration Each weekday morning, two Priests offer Mass at St. Anthony s Chapel. One offers the scheduled intention, and one takes an intention from the extra Mass intention list. Once the concelebrated Mass is offered, the list is put into the bulletin on the first weekend of each month. Our Mass Intention list for concelebration is becoming depleted. Our prayers for the dead help our loved ones work through their experience of Purgatory. The Mass is the best prayer for this. Masses may also be offered for the living for special intentions or as a Spiritual Bouquet for their benefit as God sees best. To request a Mass, simply mostholyname@hotmail.com or call Becky at , ext. 0 with your intention and the month desired. The usual offering is $10.00 and checks made payable to Most Holy Name Parish. 7 St. Aloysius Rummage House Update Volunteers have been cleaning, sorting and pricing the new merchandise on our shelves and racks since our last sale in October We still have much more to do before our first sale of 2016 in March. Many of our volunteers are aging or have medical issues. They are not able to continue doing some of the work that they had done for many years. In order to continue this successful fund-raising effort for St. Aloysius Church, the Rummage House needs to ask for new volunteers again. We have asked for help many times without getting enough volunteers. This is a major fund-raiser for our church. We need your help. Can you volunteer for one or two days a month on sale days or one week before the sale. There are numerous areas that need vonunteers March through October. Please call or the Administration Building, Jim if you would like to volunteer. If no answer, leave a message, and we will get back to you. We need men and women, with or without trucks to help at various times. Also we need 7 th and 8 th grade and high school students to help on our sale days. We will work along with you, according to your schedule. Our food is prepared in the kitchen of the social hall in the church building. To make it more convenient we are planning to serve the food in the social hall, rather than the back porch of the Rummage House. Everything will be set up the same way, with tables, food, beverages and service, making a very comfortable eating or take out area. It will be warmer in winter months and cooler in the summer months. If you are not a rummage shopper, come join us for lunch on sale days. The food is delicious. We are proud to be approved by the Allegheny County Health Department concerning our food preparation and service areas. If you enjoy volunteering and like to be involved with the food concession, we have a place for you. With regards to our bake sales, we are asking for all our parishioners whose last name begins with A through K to please bake for the first sale in March and L through Z to bake for the April sale. You will rotate each month according to your last name. If you choose to bake every month, that would be GREAT. You will still bring your bake goods to the Rummage House on Friday all day, or Saturday morning by 8:am the week-end of the sale. Our first sale of 2016 Saturday, March 5th 8:00 am - 2:00 pm Sunday, March 6th 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
