GOSPEL MEDITATION PALM SUNDAY "Peter said to him in reply, 'Though all may have their faith in you shaken, mine will never be.'" Peter thought pretty highly of his faith. On the eve of Christ's death he professed, in essence, that he was more committed to Jesus than anyone else. And yet, we know how the story turns out: when put to the test in the moment that mattered, Peter "began to curse and to swear, 'I do not know the man.'" ooooo o On this Palm Sunday, we hear many stories of betrayal. The crowds, who once hailed Jesus with "hosannas," will soon be chanting, "Let him be crucified!" Judas, who was counted among the closest companions of the Lord, turns him over to the chief priests for thirty pieces of silver. And Peter falls short in the moment of truth, and then "went out and began to weep bitterly." Here in the hours before Christ faces crucifixion, he is surrounded by false friends. Just when he most needs the support, he is abandoned. No wonder he feels the suffering even of being forgotten by his Father while he hangs on the cross, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" What trials Jesus endured, not only physically but emotionally as well It's easy to glaze over this as a story from the past that does not involve us. But in truth, Jesus suffered all of this for each one of US. He would have preferred things to go otherwise, but submitted to his Father's will because he knew "it must come to pass in this way." Jesus' passion and death took place in order to bring US salvation. So today, may we not be counted among his many betrayers, but may we be truly grateful for the gift of the cross and show it through a life of sincere faith. Pope Francis Monthly Prayer Intention for April. Young People That young people may respond generously to their vocations and seriously consider offering themselves to God in the priesthood or consecrated life.

Please note that if you would like to make a monetary donation to the food bank, your check must be made out to The Catholic Community Food Bank of Troy Hill. HOSANNA, TO THE SON OF DAVID - On Palm Sunday the crowds welcomed Jesus as a king as he entered into Jerusalem. They expressed their joy by waving palm and olive branches and hailing Him as the Son of David. Yet, a few days later some among them were jeering at Jesus, yelling out crucify him! while others hid in fear as He was led to His death. As followers of Jesus we are called to live with an undivided heart, a heart that is alive in love for God and neighbor. As we celebrate God s great love for us in the mysteries of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus this Holy Week may we be inspired to be united in faith, hope and love as we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! 6 Based on all the feedback the diocese has received to date the following plan will assist in accomplishing the next steps in the On Mission process. Bishop Zubik, after receiving recommendations from the On Mission Commission and discerning with his consultative bodies, will announce his decisions and announce groupings of parishes at the end of March All the groupings will be announced simultaneously. Furthermore, all the priest assignments will be announced at the same time. Implementation, however, will come out in stages. Each grouping will be put into one of three categories. The priests will be assigned to all of the parishes within the grouping they would eventually serve. For example: A priest may be named pastor of four parishes with the goal of helping the four parishes work toward the merger within a certain period of time. Category A would include areas that are in need of making the change immediately, either because of finances or demographics. Category A also includes groupings that have indicated to the diocese that they are ready to go immediately. These mergers would take place within a year of the priest changes, and some may officially occur with the installation of the new pastor. They would follow a blueprint that is being developed to help bring parishes together. Category B would include the greatest number of parishes. The new pastor (and parochial vicars/parish chaplains) would be appointed to the various parishes in the grouping. They would follow a blueprint that is being developed to help bring parishes together. The pastor will work to bring the parishes together for the ultimate merger, which would take place in one to three years. Finally, some of the larger or more complex parishes would be part of Category C. In these cases, the final merger would not be implemented for three to five years. They would follow a blueprint that is being developed to help bring parishes together. On Mission Holy Hour St. Sebastian Parish has scheduled a Holy Hour with adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for April 25th from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Parishioners and clergy from parishes in the North Hills are cordially invited to attend this Holy Hour to bring us together for the success of On Mission for the Church Alive! and for vocations to the priesthood. All are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served after the Holy Hour.
