Those who are facing surgeries or very serious health issues can see the priest after the Mass. The Anointing will take place near the Statue of Mary at the front left of the Church. The oils are reserved in the Olea Sancta Repository (Holy Oils) near the Baptismal Font. Family and friends are most welcome to be present together during the Anointing. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Every Friday, there is Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 8:30am-12:00pm (between the two daily Masses). Please plan on coming to pray. Be sure to pray for Peace in the Holy Land with the Peace Dove that is lit on the side altar. Prayer cards with the history of the origins of the Dove and suggested prayers are in the basket by the Dove. Also, If you could sign up for an hour a week, or once a month, that would be great. Please contact the main office or see the sign up sheet at the Church entrance. We need at least two people for each hour. This is a real blessing for the mission of the Parish, the Harvard Catholic Center and the Choir School. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) The parish is always ready to receive adults into the process of preparation for baptism or reception into Full Communion with the Roman Catholic Church. Please call (617) for information. PARISH FOOD PANTRY Non-perishable food is received before every Mass for the pantry, which is open Saturdays from 11:00am-11:30am, or may be left in the parish office. CHURCH ACCESS FOR THE DISABLED Take elevator from the Parish Center Lobby at 29 Mount Auburn Street. Restrooms, handicapped accessible, are located on 1 st & 2 nd floors of the Parish Center. PARKING FOR MASS ON SATURDAY & SUNDAY Free parking at the Cowperthwaite Garage is available by permit only for those attending Mass on weekends only. 3 Dear Friends, THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME We are very happy to welcome home the alumni of St. Paul s Choir School this weekend. Founder Theodore Marier s vision continues to inspire our lives at St. Paul s and beyond. Choir School alum have gone on to many prestigious schools and careers, both in the music world and other important venues as well. We thank you for your prayer and support of the choir school, and we encourage you to help guide boys to us who might benefit from the program here. WELCOME TO THE NEWLY APPOINTED ST. PAUL PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MEMBERS! Along with that, we were so blessed to host the London Oratory Schola Cantorum last week. Not only did they enrich our liturgy and an afternoon concert with our own choir, but the experience of our boys welcoming the Londoners into their homes and school was a blessing to all. We hope that this will be a strong relationship for us in years to come. A final choir note: we were so pleased that our Boy Choristers sang with the Boston Symphony Orchestra this week, under the direction of Charles Dutoit (performing the Angel Chorus in Berlioz Damnation of Faust). It was a wonderful performance and we are happy that our relationship with the BSO is once again a strong one. Philip Kao Angela Jones Last week our Young Couples and New Families Parish Group had a morning retreat. Led by a Dominican preacher who came up from Washington, DC, parents were able to take time for prayer and a lecture while many volunteers took care of babysitting duties. The morning was capped by Mass and lunch for all. This is a great and growing ministry here at St. Paul s. There are two things on the liturgical calendar this week. Wednesday, November 1 is All Saints Day, a holy day of obligation. Masses on that day are at 8:00am, 12:10pm and 7:00pm (there is no vigil Mass). Then, on Thursday, November 2, we remember all our beloved dead on the Feast of All Souls. As we have done in the past, we will have a 7:00pm Mass. The music for the Mass, provided by our Choir of Boys and Men, will all be taken from the Faure Requiem. Last year s Mass was so very moving. I encourage you to come and to bring many others. In our ongoing care for the sacred vessels at our parish, we have to replace the communion chalices used to distribute the Precious Blood at Mass. We will need eight chalices, each with the price of $ If you would like to donate money for a chalice (in memory of someone, if you prefer) we would be most grateful. You could speak with me or with Nancy in the front office. Thanks again to our Parish Council, returning members and those newly appointed. And thanks to those helping us prepare for our Increased Offertory Initiative, and those on the Disciples in Mission Planning Team. They have all done a lot of work. Next week, we welcome seminarians at some of our Masses to share their stories and ask for continued prayers for vocations to the priesthood. I know that you will welcome them warmly. God bless, Fr. Meet after coffee hour on the second floor of the Parish Center. ST. PAUL S CHOIR SCHOOL ALUMNI SUNDAY Join us this Sunday, October 29 at 11:00am for the Choir School Alumni Mass. Mass will be celebrated at 8:00am, 12:10pm and 7:00pm. Please note: there will be no Vigil Mass on Tuesday, October 31. MOVIE NIGHT! Please join the Saint Paul Parish Cinema Group at 7:30pm in the Multimedia Room on Thursday, November 2 for a screening of "The Passion of Joan of Arc." This classic of the silent era released in 1928 is famous as a hybrid of the impressionist and expressionist styles of the day. Come to be inspired both by it's retelling of the story of one of our most famous saints, as well as by the aesthetic virtues that inform this example of world class cinema. Contact Edward Miller at (857) with any questions. OCTOBER 29, 2017 CENTERING PRAYER The Centering prayer group meets on Thursdays from 6:30pm-8:00pm in Mary s Room (Room 202). Our meetings include lectio divina or readings from Fr. Keating or the Christian mystics, followed by a period of centering prayer. We are currently reading Dark Night of the Soul by Gerald May. The Bread and Wine for this week s liturgies are provided in memory of Aurora Madarang. MASS INTENTIONS AT ST. PAUL S Mass Intentions for daily and weekend Masses are being accepted. Masses may be offered to remember those who have died, for those who are ill, as well as in thanksgiving for a birthday, anniversary or for a special intention. Please contact the Parish Office during the week for details and to reserve a particular Mass. SANCTUARY LAMP The Sanctuary Lamp, which burns for eight days and nights at the tabernacle, symbolizes the presence of Christ and marks the boundaries of holy space in the Church. If you are interested in learning how to donate a Sanctuary Lamp, contact Nancy at (617) ext FOOD PANTRY Thank you to everyone who has donated grocery bags to the food pantry. We are still in need of plastic or paper grocery bags for our customers. In addition, our supply of cereal, one of our most popular choices, is running low. We have a lot of plain Cheerios but can use just about everything else. We also need granola bars or cereal bars (or similar snack items), peanut butter, jam/preserves in every flavor except grape, 100% juice, powdered drink mix (lemonade, etc.), crackers, dry black beans, pancake mix and meat soups. People often look for healthier options, reading labels as they make their selections, so please keep that in mind if you purchase items for the pantry. We are grateful for your ongoing generosity. Please pray for Marjorie Parsons, whose funeral Mass was recently celebrated at St. Paul s. The funeral Mass for John Sleeper will be celebrated on Saturday, November 4 at 12 Noon.
