Those who are facing surgeries or very serious health issues can see the priest after the Mass. The Anointing will take place near the Statue of Mary at the front left of the Church. The oils are reserved in the Olea Sancta Repository (Holy Oils) near the Baptismal Font. Family and friends are most welcome to be present together during the Anointing. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Every Friday, there is Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 8:30am-12:00pm (between the two daily Masses). Please plan on coming to pray. Be sure to pray for Peace in the Holy Land with the Peace Dove that is lit on the side altar. Prayer cards with the history of the origins of the Dove and suggested prayers are in the basket by the Dove. Also, If you could sign up for an hour a week, or once a month, that would be great. Please contact the main office or see the sign up sheet at the Church entrance. We need at least two people for each hour. This is a real blessing for the mission of the Parish, the Harvard Catholic Center and the Choir School. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) The parish is always ready to receive adults into the process of preparation for baptism or reception into Full Communion with the Roman Catholic Church. Please call (617) for information. PARISH FOOD PANTRY Non-perishable food is received before every Mass for the pantry, which is open Saturdays from 11:00am-11:30am, or may be left in the parish office. CHURCH ACCESS FOR THE DISABLED Take elevator from the Parish Center Lobby at 29 Mount Auburn Street. Restrooms, handicapped accessible, are located on 1 st & 2 nd floors of the Parish Center. PARKING FOR MASS ON SATURDAY & SUNDAY Free parking at the Cowperthwaite Garage is available by permit only for those attending Mass on weekends only. 3 Dear Friends, This is Commitment Weekend when we are given the opportunity to support the Catholic Appeal which provides funding for Cardinal Seán to carry out the administrative and pastoral duties of the Archdiocese. Admittedly, it can be awkward to fill out these forms during the Mass, but when we see it in light of the Lenten call to almsgiving and the Gospel invitation to bring our gifts to the altar, the spiritual purpose adds depth to the practical. I have made my commitment of $350. I hope you will do what you are able. Please remember that any amount received that exceeds our goal will remain here in the parish. Thanks again for your kind generosity. I want to remind everyone about the special Lenten opportunities here at St. Paul s (see the rest of the bulletin for details): Confessions every Wednesday night, Thursday afternoon and Saturday afternoon; Community Meals for the Homeless and Those In Need Wednesday afternoon; Eucharistic Adoration Friday morning and Stations of the Cross Fridays at 5:30pm; Choral Vespers most Thursdays at 5:15pm and special Choral Vespers on Sunday, March 4; Performance of the Durufle Requiem Friday the 9 th. Kelly THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT LENT AT ST. PAUL S STATIONS OF THE CROSS Stations of the Cross will be celebrated at 5:30pm on Fridays during Lent in the Church. THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU WEDNESDAYS OF LENT 6:30pm to 8:00pm St. Paul s and all the parishes and chapels of the Archdiocese of Boston will be open for individual confessions during Lent, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Please visit to help you prepare. It has videos on the Sacrament of Reconciliation, sheets on how to make a good confession, answers to frequently-asked questions and more. Please make plans to come on Lenten Wednesdays and spread the word of this special outreach of mercy to those you know. LENTEN COMMUNITY LUNCHES The Homeless Out-reach Committee will sponsor the Annual Wednesday Lenten Lunch Program. It will take place on March 7, 13, 21 at 12:30pm in the lower Church. Guests can come in for coffee & bagels in the morning before the meal is served. Contributions of prepared dishes, vegetables, fruits, individual fruit juices and desserts can be left at the Parish Center no later than 11:00am the day of the meal. Volunteers to set up, greet guests, serve, and clean up are needed. Because of the wide spread flu, we will once again introduce these temporary measures: At the Sign of Peace, people are asked to offer a nod or wave or smile but to refrain from shaking hands. We would ask that everyone receive the Body of Christ by hand and not on the tongue, though the option remains. We will be suspending the receiving of the Precious Blood from the Communion Chalices. 4 CHECK OUT WHAT S HAPPENING AT ST. PAUL S PARTNER PARISH COLLECTION MARCH 17/18 Fr. Elias Tabban, Pastor of St. Paul's Partner Parish in the Holy Land has asked for our financial help in meeting the medical costs for surgeries and medications of parishioners at Our Lady Fatima in Beit Sahour, Palestine. The need is great given the lack of medical insurance available for Palestinian Christians and the chronic lack of employment throughout the Palestinian territories. Through our partnership we have been able to help the "living stones" in the Holy Land to support their families, to educate their children in our rich Christian tradition and to remain faithful witnesses to the love of Christ in the Holy Land. Our Lady of Fatima is a vibrant Parish with a Catholic school educating children from kindergarten through 12th grade. (See photos posted in the St. Paul vestibule). Please consider a donation to support the struggling families in this community who are our sisters and brothers in Christ. Help us let them know that we care. Masses may be offered to remember those who have died, for those who are ill, as well as in thanksgiving for a birthday, anniversary or for a special intention. Please contact the Parish Office, (617) for details and to reserve a particular Mass. ST. PAUL S GIVING KIOSK The St. Paul Giving Kiosk is located in the vestibule! The device offers parishioners, and visitors, a means by which to make offertory donations via credit card. All donations made through the kiosk are credited to parishioner accounts. CENTERING PRAYER The Centering prayer group meets on Thursdays from 6:30pm-8:00pm in Mary s Room (Room 202). Our meetings include lectio divina or readings from Fr. Keating or the Christian mystics, followed by a period of centering prayer. We are currently reading Dark Night of the Soul by Gerald May. All are welcome. Maybe it's the poor way we allow someone to treat us, maybe it's a habitual sin, maybe it's a pattern of thought or attitude that traps us in a cycle of regret, anger, or an inability to forgive. Jesus has bold words for us today: "Take these out of here." When we hear the story of the Cleansing of the Temple, it can be easy to look down on the animal-sellers and money -changers. However, they set up shop in the Temple for a very practical purpose. People needed to buy animals to sacrifice, they were going to sacrifice them in the Temple: ergo, quite a convenient, successful marketplace! For many of us, the negative influences in our lives don't come out of nowhere. We might have considered them quite practical and reasonable initially. We wanted to keep the peace, so we allowed someone to talk to us disrespectfully. A person hurt us deeply and we weren't prepared to let go of our resentment right away. Over time, these can fester and corrupt our inner life in a way we didn't expect. The response of Jesus is a strong one. "He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area." God wants us to be whole, healthy human beings. He knows how destructive it is for our souls to be caught up sin - our own sin and those of others. God's love for us is startlingly fierce. In a few short weeks we will celebrate the culmination of that courageous love as Jesus goes to his death on the cross. In the meantime, Lent is an opportunity for cleansing and renewal. If we've allowed into our lives things that don't belong, let today be the day we ask Jesus to clear them out. It's not always easy or pretty, but it's necessary for our hearts to function the way they were made. God will turn our tables over if we ask Him to.
