Those who are facing surgeries or very serious health issues can see the priest after the Mass. The Anointing will take place near the Statue of Mary at the front left of the Church. The oils are reserved in the Olea Sancta Repository (Holy Oils) near the Baptismal Font. Family and friends are most welcome to be present together during the Anointing. LIVE THE LITURGY: INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK St. Teresa of Calcutta once said, "Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier." Keeping the commandments of Jesus ultimately means loving as he loves. How do you think people feel after they leave your presence? This is a question worth pondering if we are serious about being disciples. Gentleness and reverence are beautiful charisms to foster as they speak boldly of love. If we truly love God and our brothers and sisters, we will always be gentle with them and treat them with the reverent dignity they deserve, regardless of what they have done. This is the ultimate challenge of discipleship. Committing ourselves today to following Jesus' commandments and to love as Jesus loves, how can we make those who meet us this week leave us happier and grateful that they have crossed our path? RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) The parish is always ready to receive adults into the process of preparation for baptism or reception into Full Communion with the Roman Catholic Church. Please call (617) for information. PARISH FOOD PANTRY Non-perishable food is received before every Mass for the pantry, which is open Saturdays from 11:00am to 11:30am. 3 Dear Friends, Our 8 th grade students at the Choir School had a wonderful trip to Washington DC last week. They sang at St. Matthew s Cathedral and, though some of our Harvard connections, were able to visit the Supreme Court and Hall of Congress, along with other museums and other historical sites. This weekend we celebrate the Baccalaureate Mass for our Harvard Class of It is a most appropriate way for us to thank God for them and to ask blessings upon them. Please keep them in your prayers. We look forward to Commencement this Thursday. Also this weekend, the Archdiocese of Boston will see eight men ordained to the priesthood of Jesus Christ. I have a long association with three of the new priests (and will do my best to touch base at three Masses of Thanksgiving and three receptions)! Please pray for these new priests and for all priests, that we will be faithful and humble servants. This Sunday, May 21 at 3:00pm, our fine Parish Choir will lead a Choral Vespers Service. We are so grateful to Jeremy Bruns, Forrest Eimold and all the singers for their music each Sunday morning and also for this special offering. This Thursday we celebrate the holy day of the Ascension. Masses are at 8:00am, 12:10pm and 7:00pm. If weather and winds cooperate, the Choir Boys will be singing from the bell tower at 11:40am, a lovely European tradition to honor this feast. Hopefully, spring rains will give way to May flowers for a while now. Mary, Queen of the May, pray for us. God bless, Fr. Kelly THE SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER ASCENSION THURSDAY- MAY 25 HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION Thursday, May 25 is the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord, a holy day of obligation. SACRED ART IN HARVARD SQUARE The next program in the series "Sacred Art in Harvard Square" will take place on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, at 1:30pm. Professor Francesco (Chip) Piatti will conduct a tour of the Murals of St. Paul's, which include some rare images and stories which appear in very few other buildings. Please be with us for this special celebration of the Holy Spirit in art and architecture. Please meet in the Mary Room (Room 202) on the second floor of the Parish Center. PRAYER INTENTIONS TO LOURDES The group of graduate students and young professionals traveling on a pilgrimage to France is offering to take prayer intentions you might have with them to Lourdes to ask for Mary's intercession for them. You may do so by writing your intention on a small sheet of paper and leaving it the basket next to the side altar of Mary in St. Paul's, or by to pilgrimatetofrance2017@gmail.com Please send or leave intentions by the end of May.

PAUL S Mass Intentions for daily and weekend Masses are being accepted. Masses may be offered to remember those who have died, for those who are ill, as well as in thanksgiving for a birthday, anniversary or for a special intention. Please contact the Parish Office during the week for details and to reserve a particular Mass. FOOD PANTRY Thank you to everyone who has responded so generously with recent donations to the food pantry as well as to the individuals who have kept the pantry thriving with consistent donations over the past several years. Our customers sometimes find that their biggest challenge is deciding among the many great choices. We currently need white rice, canisters of oats, coffee, crackers, and packages of fruit cups - although other items are always appreciated. In addition, we are trying to increase our capacity to distribute personal care items and household products that are necessary but cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits. The items that are most needed are toothpaste, shampoo, dish soap, and laundry detergent (new and unused items only). Finally, we have a beautiful new sign thanks to Hercules Press. MONDAY PRAYER GROUP Join fellow parishioners for scripture study and prayer, following the 12:10pm Mass, on Monday s in Room 202. ST. PAUL S GIVING KIOSK The St. Paul Giving Kiosk - located in the vestibule! The device offers parishioners, and visitors, a means by which to make offertory donations via credit card. All donations made through the kiosk are credited to parishioner accounts. Check it out today! POPE FRANCIS MAY PRAYER INTENTION CHRISTIANS IN AFRICA That Christians in Africa, in imitation of the Merciful Jesus, may give prophetic witness to reconciliation, justice, and peace. CAMBRIDGE SAFER HOMES, SAFER COMMUNITY GUN BUY BACK The Cambridge Safer Homes, Safer Community Gun Buy Back is focused on getting unwanted and unsecured guns out of homes where they pose a serious risk to children, people with mental illness and those at risk of domestic violence. This year s Gun Buy Back will be on the morning of Saturday, June 10 at two locations Reservoir Church and Pentecostal Tabernacle. No questions asked. No identification required. Cambridge Police & Middlesex Sheriff's Office will be managing the sites and handling the guns turned in. State Police will destroy the guns. Residents turning in guns and ammunition will be given a gift card to a local grocery or retail store. This is an interfaith and community-led effort led by the Cambridge churches, synagogues and mosques and by other grassroots community organizations in partnership with the Cambridge Police Departments, the Cambridge Public Health Department the Middlesex County Sheriff and State Police. PARISH SUPPORT AND FINANCES Our offertory this weekend, May 20/21 has one collection, our regular parish offertory. Next weekend, May 27/28, the second collection is for Catholic Relief Services. Thank you for your generosity. HYMN FEST FOR OUR LADY ST. JOSEPH Come and enjoy honoring Our Blessed Mother in her month of May through her song, at St. Joseph s in Needham, 1360 High Avenue on Sunday, May 28 at 3:00pm. Traditional Catholic hymns, including such favorites as Bring Flowers of the Rarest, Mother, at Your Feet is Kneeling, and Tis the Month of Our Mother will be played on an extraordinary organ. Those attending will be led in singing the hymns by an outstanding vocalist. Prior to the singing of each hymn, a brief background of its history and significance in Catholic devotional life will be presented.
