Those who are facing surgeries or very serious health issues can see the priest after the Mass. The Anointing will take place near the Statue of Mary at the front left of the Church. The oils are reserved in the Olea Sancta Repository (Holy Oils) near the Baptismal Font. 3 THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD Dear Friends, This weekend we come to the end of the Christmas Season as we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord. Having entered our world through His conception and birth, at the Baptism He begins His more public ministry. Take a final moment to reflect on this past Christmas Season and to thank the Lord for its blessings. Might I suggest that you look up the Rite of Baptism and pray through its beautiful words? Also, I am delighted with the response to our revived offering of the Epiphany kit to bless our homes and other places. The doors to the church, Parish Center, Choir School and Harvard Catholic Center have been duly blessed! I want to update you on the progress of the work in the church. The major plaster repair (anywhere you see the bright white coloration on the arches, columns, ceilings, Stations of the Cross) should be finished by the end of January. These will be painted to blend with the rest of the church. The compromised structural beam which was discovered above the traditional confessional will be replaced between mid and late January. At that point, the ceiling and roof will be repaired. As to the painting of several areas of the church, the preparatory work has begun. Thanks for the input given to us after last weekend. We have already been through two or three trial phases and expect to keep tweaking until mid-january. Thanks for your flexibility as certain parts of the church will be unavailable for use as the project continues (and we may be using the traditional confessional or other arrangements as need dictates). There is a lot going on, so your prayers and support are welcome. We have begun initial conversations about a Capital Campaign, and we will fill you in as the path forward becomes clearer. With that, a reminder about the Increased Weekly Offertory Collection: During all the Masses this weekend (January 12/13), all will have the opportunity to fill out pledge cards (if you have not already done so.). They will be filled out and collected during the Mass. Thanks so much for your prayerful consideration for your increased offertory giving. Your support provides for the care of our parish which impacts people here in our local area and throughout the world. Parish Council meetings for the new year are up and running, as well as the Finance Committee, the Liturgy Committee, the Advisory Board for the Choir School and several meeting for the Harvard Catholic Center. Please keep all this work in your prayers. See the bulletin or website for lots of upcoming events in the new year. I am excited to announce a new Parish celebration on the Feast of St. Paul on Friday, January 25 at 7:00pm in DiGiovanni Hall. The evening will consist of Evening Prayer, a brief lecture, a brief musical presentation, and wine, cheese and other refreshments. We look forward to you being there! Also, put on your calendars Fr. Patrick s Jazz Band Night Club evening on Friday, February 1 (baby sitting services will be available here at the parish!) and the annual Bake-A-Thon on February 2 and 3. God bless, Fr. Although many people bring their own bags or carts, many others still rely on our supply of bags each week. In addition, we desperately need solid white tuna, a popular source of healthy protein. We also need coffee, hot cocoa, shelf stable milk, granola bars, fruit cups (4 packs), white rice, dry beans, nuts, juice, and cereal. Finally, we would welcome unopened items from your holiday gift baskets that you are unable to use. We are often able to find someone who is excited to try the exotic gourmet treats that would otherwise sit in your cupboard indefinitely. BADALIYA AND PEACE ISLANDS INSTITUTE The Badaliya and Peace Islands Institute Interfaith prayer and faith sharing gathering will meet on Sunday January 13 from 3:00pm - 4:30pm in St. Paul Parish Center Chapel. Through Baptism, Jesus' identity as God's Son is revealed and understood. He knows very clearly who he is. Baptism does the same for us. It gives us our identity as daughters and sons of God. We have the wonderful opportunity, given to us as a gift, to share in the same intimate relationship Jesus has with God his Father. Being a daughter or son of God gives us a unique and focused mission to which we must be faithful. Our identity, as with Jesus, is rooted in God. This is a simple fact we all must accept. Through Baptism, we are given the power and ability to see the world as God sees and to think and act as God would think and act. This is a tall order but one that will lead us to truth and ultimately to happiness.
