3 Dear Friends, THE TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME This is a wonderful day in the Church s life. Mother Teresa of Calcutta is canonized a saint on September 4 in Rome. Though her saintly qualities have been long admired, now that she has been recognized officially as a saint, we can have full confidence that her life is to be imitated and her intercession efficacious as she leads us closer to Jesus through Mary. I have worked with Saint Teresa s Missionaries of Charity since 1984 and was blessed to meet and speak with Mother Teresa on several occasions. What a privilege! We have prayer cards available for you at the entrance of the Church to commemorate this great event. Next weekend, we will be welcoming Archbishop José Gomez, the Archbishop of the Los Angeles Archdiocese. The Archbishop will offer a lecture on Saturday, September 10 at 3:00pm in DiGiovanni Hall entitled Immigration, National Identity, and Catholic Conscience. I hope you can join us. Archbishop Gomez will then be the main celebrant at the 11:00am Mass on Sunday, September 11. This is a Mass of the Holy Spirit to open the academic school year for all Harvard students, faculty, staff and friends, as well as the St. Paul s Choir School. The Boys and Men will be singing at that Mass. We are also happy that the Parish Choir returns, along with new Assistant Director of Music Jeremy Bruns, at the 9:30am Mass. Last week, I was delighted to spend some time with members of the Harvard Catholic Center during their Kick- Off retreat in Wareham, MA. Fr. Murphy and Fr. Salzmann reach out so warmly and effectively to our student and young professional community. We owe them great thanks for their faithfulness. And a big Thank You to the staff, student leaders and others who make this complex machine work so well. If I could draw your attention to a small re-design on the front of the bulletin. We ve now list all seven sacraments there and how they are provided here at St. Paul s. You ll notice the addition of opportunities for Eucharistic Adoration and the regular offering of the Sacrament of Anointing. Remember, the sacraments really DO something! Be sure to read the whole bulletin and the many resources for St. Paul s available on-line. Through the intercession of St. Teresa of Calcutta, we ask that this new school year lead us always more deeply into the heart of Jesus, Who thirsts to reveal His love for and to each one of us. God bless, Fr. Kelly MASS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM The Most Reverend José H. Gomez will be the principal celebrant and homilist at the Mass of the Holy Spirit on Sunday, September 11, 11:00am, to bless the academic year. A reception in DiGiovanni Hall will follow Mass. Academics are encouraged to bring academic regalia without mortar board but are welcome to process without regalia as well. Please assemble by 10:30am in the Harvard Catholic Student Center at 20 Arrow Street. THE CHOIRS OF ST. PAUL The weekend of September 11 we welcome back the Choirs from their summer vacations.
