3 WHAT S HAPPENING AT ST. PAUL S. SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER SUMMER TIME REMINDERS Just a reminder that the 5:00pm Student Mass on Sundays and Confession on Thursdays will resume in the fall. SUMMER EVENING DESK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The Parish is in need of evening desk volunteers, Tuesday through Friday, 6:00pm to 9:00pm and on Saturdays, 9:00am to 12:00pm. SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION ON SUNDAY, JUNE 8 Next week s second collection supports the formation and training of seminarians in the Archdiocese of Boston for future service, as priests. We are blessed that many are responding to the call to serve as priests. Please be generous and support these seminarians on their journey toward their ordination to the priesthood. For more information, please visit ST. PAUL S GIVING KIOSK Don t forget about the St. Paul s Giving Kiosk - you may have seen the kiosk in the vestibule! This new device offers parishioners a new means by which to make offertory donations via credit card. All donations made through the kiosk are credited to parishioner accounts. The kiosk also allows visitors the chance to make contributions. Check it out today! SANCTUARY LAMP The Sanctuary Lamp, which burns for eight days and nights at the tabernacle, symbolizes the presence of Christ and marks the boundaries of holy space in the Church. St. Paul s is excited to announce that parishioners and visitors now have the opportunity to have the lamp lit in memory of a loved one. If you are interested in learning how to donate a Sanctuary Lamp, please contact Nancy Nicolaou at (617) ext. 303 CONGRATULATIONS COMMUNION CLASS 2014! 2014 CATHOLIC APPEAL UPDATE HELP US REACH OUR GOAL...WE RE ALMOST THERE!! The 2014 Catholic Appeal campaign is well underway at St. Paul s. As of May 21, 80 parishioners have participated, and together, we have raised $38, Thank you to all who have participated up to this point. Your generosity will benefit hundreds of Pastoral, charitable, and educational programs at work within the Archdiocese of Boston, and at St. Paul s. With $ left to raise, we need the participation of every parishioner. Your gift to the Catholic Appeal moves us forward in hope as we work in unity to strengthen the ministries and mission of the Archdiocese of Boston. 4 A NOTE FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF MUSIC Over the next couple of weeks we bid a very fond farewell to two splendid singers who have both graced our liturgies at St. Paul s recently as part of the Choir of Boys and Men. Both are moving on to exciting new projects and our thoughts and prayers go with them. Ian Bowling (a Bass with wonderful rich voice!) will shortly be joining the US Army Choir, where he will undergo basic training before joining the Choral section. He has been a rock of strength in the Choir for the last two years, singing some very memorable solos A Spotless Rose at Christmas, and Schubert s Mass in G to name but a couple. He has been a fine vocal model for the boys, and we will all miss him. We wish him well with the fine Choir he will be joining. Robert Crowe (a well-established Opera singer in Europe!) has been contributing exceptionally beautiful singing to our Alto section. He leaves to research and write his dissertation in Germany, and again, he will be greatly missed. Robert has taught us all a number of technical things about singing; never afraid to share his expertise both in the history and technique of singing. We will miss his stylistic and shapely singing, and hope he will be able to visit sometimes. We wish both men our heart-felt thanks and best wishes for the future. ST. PAUL S CHOIR SCHOOL TO CONCLUDE 50 TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION On Sunday, June 1 at 11:00am, a Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving will be held to prayerfully conclude the 50th Anniversary Celebration of St. Paul's Choir School. Cardinal Seán O'Malley, OFM Cap. Archbishop of Boston, will serve as the Principal Celebrant and Homilist. Please join us for a festive reception in DiGiovanni Hall, Saint Paul's Parish Center, immediately following Mass. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2014 GRADUATING CLASS OF ST. PAUL S CHOIR SCHOOL We congratulate the 2014 graduating class of St. Paul s Choir School! We are immensely proud of what you have accomplished during your time at St. Paul s. St. Paul s Choir School, a Catholic day school for boys in grades 4 8 here at St. Paul Parish is accepting applications for 4 th and 5 th grade admission for this September. The Choir School offers a rigorous academic and music program in the Catholic faith tradition. PAUL s FOOD PANTRY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! St. Paul s Parish operates a food pantry each Saturday morning in St. Paul's lower church. The food pantry operates in collaboration with Fair Foods, a grassroots organization from Dorchester that provides fresh produce and bread to sites throughout the Greater Boston area through their "Two Dollars a Bag" program. The food pantry is in need of volunteers. Assistance is needed with (i) coordinating the distribution of the food (in St. Paul's lower church) and (ii) picking up the produce from Fair Foods in Dorchester. This is a great volunteer opportunity for anyone looking to participate in a social justice program with minimal time commitments.
