Psalm 97 Cambridge, Massachusetts ANOINTING OF THE SICK SACRAMENT The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is offered after the 9:00am Mass on the First Saturday of each month. Those who are facing surgeries or very serious health issues can see the priest after the Mass in DiGiovanni Hall. Family and friends are most welcome to be present together during the Anointing. SUMMER CHAPEL AT ST. PAUL S The Summer Chapel is open in the air conditioned DiGiovanni Hall through August 31. All Masses will be celebrated in DiGiovanni Hall, with the exception of the Sunday 9:30am and 11:00am Masses which will be celebrated in the Church. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) The parish is always ready to receive adults into the process of preparation for baptism or reception into Full Communion with the Roman Catholic Church. Please call (617) for information. PARISH FOOD PANTRY Non-perishable food is received before every Mass for the pantry, which is open Saturdays from 11:00am to 11:30am., or may be left in the parish office. CHURCH ACCESS FOR THE DISABLED Take elevator from the Parish Center Lobby at 29 Mount Auburn Street. Restrooms, handicapped accessible, are located on 1 st & 2 nd floors of the Parish Center. PARKING FOR MASS ON SATURDAY & SUNDAY Free parking at the Cowperthwaite Garage is available by permit only for those attending Mass on weekends only. 3 Dear Friends, Four school mates and I meet annually to catch up and explore a new place together. This year we tackled the Lombardy region of northern Italy, where we made it our special cause to visit the places important to church history: the seat of the great Council of Trent, the city of Milan, from where St. Charles Borromeo led his significant reforms, and the Brescia/Bergamo area, home to Blessed Pope Paul VI and Pope St. John XXIII, respectively. It was very moving to be in these important places and to pray for the intercession of these great leaders. (And yes, we managed to eat a bowl or two of pasta or polenta or gelato)! St. Paul s Parish was very much in my prayers. You will find in this bulletin a note from seminarian intern Mark Olejnik. Mark will be finishing up his summer assignment with us this weekend, though we will see him throughout the school year and again next summer. He has been a delightful part of the pastoral team, reaching out warmly and enthusiastically to many parish groups and individuals. His Friday reflections offered after Mass have been well received, and he has been grateful for the feedback from parishioners as he prepares for a life of preaching. He has helped with several projects around the campus and has been a fine addition to our rectory. Please keep him in your prayers and we trust in his. I am grateful to the many groups that have been meeting throughout the summer: the Parish Finance Committee, the Parish Development Committee (which is exploring ways to help us increase our weekly offertory), the Climate Justice Committee, leaders of the Harvard Catholic Center, and tremendous amounts of work from the administration of the Choir School. Thank you all. We celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration this weekend. Take a moment to place yourself in this revelatory moment, seeing Our Lord in His glory and preparing to follow where He leads. God bless, Fr. Kelly THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD Dear Friends, I will be finishing my summer assignment at St. Paul's on August 6th. I want to thank the entire parish - all of the priests, staff, and parishioners for all your prayers and support throughout the summer. It has been a blessing to have met people from so many different intellectual and cultural backgrounds, with all of us sharing the common goal of finding truth in Christ and the Church. Once my summer assignment finishes, I will spend a few weeks with my family and will then return to St. John's Seminary for studies. For the upcoming semester, my year-long pastoral assignment will continue to be at St. Paul's. Every week, I plan on coming to the parish for a couple of hours, helping out wherever the need may be. Please keep me and all of the Boston seminarians in your prayers, that we may not become merely priests but that we may strive, whole-heartedly, to become holy priests. You are all in my prayers! 4 AUGUST 6, 2017 CHECK OUT WHAT S HAPPENING AT ST. PAUL S MASS INTENTIONS AT ST. PAUL S Mass Intentions for daily and weekend Masses are being accepted. Masses may be offered to remember those who have died, for those who are ill, as well as in thanksgiving for a birthday, anniversary or for a special intention. Please contact the Parish Office during the week for details and to reserve a particular Mass. ST. PAUL S GIVING KIOSK The St. Paul Giving Kiosk - located in the vestibule! The device offers parishioners, and visitors, a means by which to make offertory donations via credit card. All donations made through the kiosk are credited to parishioner accounts. Check it out today! SANCTUARY LAMP The Sanctuary Lamp, which burns for eight days and nights at the tabernacle, symbolizes the presence of Christ and marks the boundaries of holy space in the Church. If you are interested in learning how to donate a Sanctuary Lamp, contact Nancy at (617) ext FOOD PANTRY The food pantry received another generous donation of gourmet chocolate, biscotti, flavored teas, and other treats from Cardullo's in Harvard Square. It took three volunteers and carts to get everything to the church. We would also like to mention that Chinesespeaking volunteers would be a tremendous help as I have often found myself in challenging situations like trying to explain that a bottle contains apple juice rather than cooking oil. If you know anyone who might be interested, please encourage them to contact Tara Lauriat (tll7997@yahoo.com). One of the greatest things about our food pantry is that we develop relationships with our regular customers. They are just as concerned about our ill family members and other challenges as we are about their needs. Our list of most needed items changes frequently as the shelves can go from full to empty very quickly and then be replenished with a single large donation. Currently, our wish list includes juice, shelf-stable milk (both dairy and non-dairy), white rice (2 lb bags), Ritz crackers, dry black beans, pasta sauce without meat or dairy, nuts, and dried fruit. We can use unopened recently expired items, but we would appreciate if you mark those items with a post-it note or other means so we can ensure that they are placed in the appropriate bin. POPE FRANCIS AUGUST PRAYER INTENTION ARTISTS That artists of our time, through their ingenuity, may help everyone discover the beauty of creation. CARING FOR THE SOUL Caring for the Soul meets on the first Monday of the month at 5:30pm in Room 202. Caring for the Soul supports those whose lives have been affected by mental illness, and is working to make our religious communities places of compassion, healing and acceptance. All are welcome. We hear God say, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him." Because of our baptism, we share in the same intimate relationship with the Father that Jesus has. This intimate relationship we have with God can transform us, just as it transformed Jesus. We, too, can radiate with love and newness of life and then help in transforming and positively impacting the lives of others. How has your relationship with God transformed you?
