PARISH FOOD PANTRY Non-perishable food is received before every Mass for the pantry, which is open Saturdays from 11:00am to 11:30am. CHURCH ACCESS FOR THE DISABLED Take elevator from the Parish Center Lobby at 29 Mount Auburn Street. Restrooms, handicapped accessible, are located on 1 st & 2 nd floors of the Parish Center. PARKING FOR MASS ON SATURDAY & SUNDAY Free parking at the Cowperthwaite Garage is available by permit only for those attending Mass on weekends only.

3 THE TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Dear friends, I am very happy to announce that Mr. Jeremy Bruns has accepted the position of Assistant Director of Music here at St. Paul's. Jeremy is an extraordinary musician with loads of experience and national recognition as an organist, adult choir director, and (uniquely important to us at St. Paul's) a fine background in boys choirs. I am very grateful to the many parishioners who assisted in the search process, to the members of the Choir School, and especially to Music Director John Robinson. Please pray for Jeremy, that his time with us will be blessed for him, his family, and for the whole St. Paul community. Seminarian Andrew Solkshinitz will be returning to seminary studies soon. Though you may see him in and out throughout the rest of August, he has officially completed his assignment with us. He has been a great help to me during my first months at St. Paul's, and has been a real asset to us in the parish and in the rectory. He is a very capable and generous young man with a great love for the Church, the liturgy and her people. We are grateful to him for his fine service and promise him our prayers. (And Andrew, the Welcome Mat is always out for you)! One of Andrew's projects was to help us with our ministry to the homeless in our area. I met with one of the leaders in Cambridge who serve this population and was so happy for the input and direction. As a beginning gesture, Andrew has assembled a large number of "Fresh Start" bags with toiletries and other essentials. We've also increased substantially our stock of gift cards to local eateries. We are looking into the possibility of an arrangement with a local cleaners so folks could have a chance for laundered clothes. We continue to be present at our wonderful weekly Food Pantry, and as you recall, we helped to cover the costs of a burial for a homeless woman. God's blessings on these efforts. Please see the notice about our search for a volunteer to staff the front desk on Sunday mornings. There are so many guests and regular parishioners who would be well served by a visible and friendly presence on hand. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, feel free to contact the office. This year, the Feast of the Assumption (August 15) is not a Holy Day of obligation. However, we certainly encourage you to join us for Mass at 8:00am or 12:10pm in DiGiovanni Hall. It is a beautiful feast day. And don't forget the wonderful Irish tradition of getting your feet into the ocean on the Assumption, a reminder of the healing waters that flow from the side of her Son. There are meetings and planning sessions galore these days. Please pray for all involved as we prepare for the upcoming school year and for all who help to make St. Paul's such a vibrant and faith-filled community. God bless, Fr. Kelly SUMMER CHAPEL AT ST. PAUL S The Summer Chapel in the air conditioned DiGiovanni Hall is open through August 28. All weekday Masses as well as the Saturday 9:00am, 5:00pm Vigil and the Sunday 7:30am Masses will be celebrated in DiGiovanni Hall. Please note that the Sunday 9:30 and 11:00am Masses will be celebrated in the church. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place in the Church on the First Friday of every month after the 8:00am Mass until noon. We are looking for volunteers who are available to be with our Lord during this time. Please contact the Parish office if you are available, at (617) TWO PROJECTS PARISH CENTER The first is to give some much needed TLC to the space commonly called Room 202, which serves many good purposes for the parish. There are some other spaces I'd like also to address. If you have any professional experience with interior design/decorating, or have a good eye, or have any connections for acquiring gently used or reasonably priced furniture (comfortable chairs, floor lamps, etc...) I'd love to speak with you! CHOIR SCHOOL We also need to address the care of the Choir School building, starting with decor for the corridors and classrooms. I am looking for professionally framed pictures or wall mounted statues, icons, etc...of any size that would reflect the themes of the Catholic faith, music, or education. 4 CHECK OUT WHAT S HAPPENING AT ST. PAUL S AUGUST 14, 2016 SUNDAY MORNING DESK VOLUNTEER The Parish is in need of a desk volunteer on Sunday mornings, 9:00am to 12:00pm. Please contact Nancy Nicolaou at (617) if you are interested/available. FOOD PANTRY Thanks to generous donations from parishioners and friends of the food pantry, we were able to make a substantial contribution to Fair Foods, the organization that provides our produce. With our donation, they were able to replace their dying 1988 truck so they can continue to rescue thousands of pounds of produce each week. We owe a special thank you to the parishioners who recently assembled bean soup kits for the food pantry as well as to Cardullo's for providing us with treats to give out. Current needs at the pantry include cereal, crackers, plain white rice, canned tomatoes, canned fruit, and juice. ST. PAUL S GIVING KIOSK Don t forget about the St. Paul s Giving Kiosk - located in the vestibule! The device offers parishioners, and visitors, a means by which to make offertory donations via credit card. All donations made through the kiosk are credited to parishioner accounts. Check it out today! MASS INTENTIONS AT ST. PAUL S You are reminded that Intentions for daily and weekend Masses are being accepted. Masses may be offered to remember those who have died, for those who are ill, as well as in thanksgiving for a birthday, anniversary or for a special intention. Please contact the Parish Office during the week for more details and to reserve a particular Mass. SANCTUARY LAMP The Sanctuary Lamp, which burns for eight days and nights at the tabernacle, symbolizes the presence of Christ and marks the boundaries of holy space in the Church. If you are interested in learning how to donate a Sanctuary Lamp in memory of a loved one, please contact Nancy Nicolaou at (617) PARISH SUPPORT AND FINANCES Our Offertory this weekend, August 13/14 has one collection, our regular Parish Support. Thank you for your generosity. Prior Offertory: August 6/7 $3, nd Collection: Catholic Relief $1, FYTD Total: $22, CARING FOR THE SOUL Caring for the Soul meets on the first Monday of the month at 5:30pm in Room 202. Caring for the Soul supports those whose lives have been affected by mental illness, and is working to make our religious communities places of compassion, healing and acceptance. All are welcome. Group leader is Dr. Nancy Kehoe, RSCI. CENTERING PRAYER GROUP The Centering prayer group meets on Thursdays from 6:30-8pm in Room 202. Our meetings include lectio divina or readings from Fr. Keating or the Christian mystics, followed by a period of centering prayer. We are currently reading Henry Nouwen's Life of the Beloved. Readings are provided. All are welcome.
