Those who are facing surgeries or very serious health issues can see the priest after the Mass. The Anointing will take place near the Statue of Mary at the front left of the Church. The oils are reserved in the Olea Sancta Repository (Holy Oils) near the Baptismal Font. Family and friends are most welcome to be present together during the Anointing. Parking for Mass on Saturday & Sunday Free parking at the Cowperthwaite Garage is available by permit only for those attending Mass on weekends only. 3 THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD Dear Friends, Once again, a blessed and happy New Year to you all. I do hope that you enjoyed the holidays and are easing back into the regular rhythms of life, such as they are! I want to update you on the progress of the church repairs. We are hoping that the plaster reconstruction of the arches, ceilings, column capitals and Stations of the Cross will be finished in the first half of January. The compromised structural beam which was discovered above the traditional confessional will be replaced between mid and late January. As to the painting of several areas of the church, the preparatory work has begun. For the first time in over 40 years, the side walls are being cleaned. Testing with various paints will soon begin and when final decisions are made, work will begin in earnest. Thanks for your flexibility as certain parts of the church will be unavailable for use as the project continues (and we may be using the traditional confessional or other arrangements as need dictates.) There is a lot going on, so your prayers and support are welcome. We have begun initial conversations about a Capital Campaign, and we will fill you in as the path forward becomes clearer. With that, a reminder about the Increased Weekly Offertory Collection and the next step: Pledge forms are still available at the back of the Church and can be filled out and returned at any time. We are grateful to those who have already done so with such generosity. We are now planning to extend this process through January 13. During all the Masses next weekend (January 12/13), all will have the opportunity to fill out pledge cards (if you have not already done so.) They will be filled out and collected during the Mass. Thanks so much for your prayerful consideration for your increased offertory giving. Your support provides for the care of our parish which impacts people here in our local area and throughout the world. I am grateful to Catherine Barilleaux, Director of Faith Formation, who coordinated the children in our Religious Education program, the Choir boys of our school and the Harvard Catholic Center students in putting together your Epiphany kits for you to take with you. 4 JANUARY 6, 2019 CHECK OUT WHAT S HAPPENING AT ST. PAUL S CARING FOR THE SOUL Caring for the Soul meets on the first Monday of the month at 5:30pm in Mary s Room (Room 202). The next meeting will take place on Monday, November 5. Caring for the Soul supports those whose lives have been affected by mental illness, and is working to make our religious communities places of compassion, healing and acceptance. All are welcome. Group leader is Dr. Nancy Kehoe, RSCI. FOOD PANTRY The food pantry has a great need for clean plastic and paper grocery bags. Although many people bring their own bags or carts, many others still rely on our supply of bags each week. In addition, we desperately need solid white tuna, a popular source of healthy protein. We also need coffee, hot cocoa, shelf stable milk, granola bars, fruit cups (4 packs), white rice, dry beans, nuts, juice, and cereal. Finally, we would welcome unopened items from your holiday gift baskets that you are unable to use. We are often able to find someone who is excited to try the exotic gourmet treats that would otherwise sit in your cupboard indefinitely. MASS INTENTIONS AT ST. PAUL S Mass Intentions for daily and weekend Masses are being accepted. Masses may be offered to remember those who have died, for those who are ill, as well as in thanksgiving for a birthday, anniversary or for a special intention. Please contact the Parish Office during the week for details and to reserve a particular Mass. ST. PAUL S GIVING KIOSK The St. Paul Giving Kiosk is located in the vestibule! The device offers parishioners, and visitors, a means by which to make offertory donations via credit card. All donations made through the kiosk are credited to parishioner accounts. Check it out today! SANCTUARY LAMP The Sanctuary Lamp, which burns for eight days and nights at the tabernacle, symbolizes the presence of Christ and marks the boundaries of holy space in the Church. If we are really unfamiliar with the space, anxiety, uncertainty, disorientation, and even fear can easily arise. Once we find the light, all is illuminated and we are at peace. Our light has come into the world! The glory of God has been revealed! Today's feast of the Epiphany teaches us to look to our Savior, Jesus Christ, for the way to truly be the human beings we were created to be. He shows us how to prioritize our lives, order our relationships, care for creation, and live as daughters and sons of God. God's love and creative power is universal, transcending all races and nations. Jesus brings the light of peace to a broken world that still struggles to understand itself and to you and I who also struggle to understand who we are.
