Those who are facing surgeries or very serious health issues can see the priest after the Mass. The Anointing will take place near the Statue of Mary at the front left of the Church. The oils are reserved in the Olea Sancta Repository (Holy Oils) near the Baptismal Font. Family and friends are most welcome to be present together during the Anointing. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Every Friday, in the Parish Center Chapel, there is Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 8:30am-12:00pm (between the two daily Masses). Please plan on coming to pray. Also, If you could sign up for an hour a week, or once a month, that would be great. Please contact the main office or see the sign up sheet at the Church entrance. We need at least two people for each hour. This is a real blessing for the mission of the Parish, the Harvard Catholic Center and the Choir School. 3 Dear Friends, Thirty-Third SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME We want to welcome back Harvard alumni and parishioners who are in town for various reunions and for the Harvard- Yale Game. We are always happy to see old friends, and we hope you enjoy your visit. This weekend at the 11:00am Sunday Mass, we will celebrate the Investiture of several of our choir boys into the full life of their role as Choristers. In the hallway of the school, we have some lovely photos from the first Investitures way back in the early 1960 s. This is the moment when the boys receive, in a formal way, their hymnals and their full choir robes. It is also at this time that the boys make the beautiful promise: I consecrate my voice to God, to sing His praises and to proclaim His glory. And I promise to keep my heart and my tongue pure, that I may also sing of love. Please pray for these boys, their families and the school. Last week, there was an insert in the bulletin with a letter from Cardinal Seán along with a description of the efforts taken these past 16 years here in Boston to assure the safety of minors and others. If you did not have a chance to read it, we will have some extra copies on the tables in the vestibule, and it is available on line at the diocesan website. Because of an early bulletin deadline, I am writing this at the very start of the American Bishops meetings this week. As is helpful, we will certainly have an opportunity to reflect on the work of this week s meetings. An update on the present work in the church: plaster and ceiling repair are proceeding to the side section by the murals of St. Patrick near the chancel organ and then continue back up the aisle on the Bow St. side. We are hoping this work will be completed by Christmas. The more invasive work on the other side of the church has begun in earnest. The roof tiles have been removed, revealing a severely compromised piece of real estate! A crane has been ordered which will lower a new steel beam through the roof, replacing the one that has rotted through. This, too, we hope will be finished by Christmas. In early January, we will begin a painting project that will address the Stations of the Cross, the walls along the main part of the nave, the ceilings by the St. Joseph Altar and the chancel organ, and the capitals of the columns. We will offer a fifteen-minute tour of the proposed painting project on Sunday, December 2 at 12:30pm. This brings with it steps being explored for a Capital Campaign. Given the expenses incurred by these repairs and, with a more hopeful look to the 100 th anniversary of the church in 2023 and the 150 th anniversary of the parish in 2025, we are looking at the possibility of a major fundraising effort. We will have more information just before or after Christmas. A reminder, too, about the EVkids book drive and the Coats for Kids initiative. See the bulletin for more information Looking ahead to the Advent calendar, our Wednesday luncheons for the Homeless begin on November 28. The Parish Choir vespers are at 3:00pm on December 2. Choir School concerts are on December 9 and 16 at 3:00pm. And on the weekend of December 8/9, we will have our annual Parish Increased Offertory Drive. Thanks, and God bless, Fr. Kelly 52/20 OFFERTORY COMMITMENT PROGRAM UPDATE If you have not yet received an Intent Card for our annual 52/20 Offertory Commitment Program, please take one from the back of the church. The purpose of this Intent Card is to allow each family to indicate the level of support they intend to give to the parish for the coming year. This process will assist the parish as we create a budget for the coming year that reflects the responses received. Please pray about your decision and return your Intent Card as soon as you are ready. Last year, more than 165 St. Paul families made pledges to support the 2018 offertory collection, and we hope to increase that number for We ask that each family return their Intent Card to the parish by December 9 th, which is 52/20 Weekend at St. Paul s. Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at St. Paul s! Parish offices will close at noon on Wednesday, November 21 and will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 22 and 23. Only the 9:00am Mass will be celebrated on Thanksgiving. Both the 8:00am and 12:10pm Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 23. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, November 26. 4 CHECK OUT WHAT S HAPPENING AT ST. PAUL S... FOOD PANTRY The food pantry is well-stocked, thanks to the incredible generosity of a few friends and parishioners. Items that are particularly helpful are raisins, other dried fruit, nuts, trail mix, herbal and flavored tea, and salad dressing. We are also getting requests for baby food as we are serving young families. Finally, we would like to have a day in the upcoming weeks when everyone receives laundry detergent. Although many of us consider laundry a chore, it is hard to imagine not having clean clothes because we don't have money for detergent. If you are able to contribute one or more bottles (or packages of pods), we would be most grateful. Also, we are in need of paper and plastic bags. BADALIYA AND PEACE ISLANDS INSTITUTE The Badaliya and Peace Islands Institute Interfaith prayer and faith sharing gathering will meet this Sunday, November 18, from 3:00pm - 4:30pm in St. Paul Parish Center Chapel. Dr. Dorothy C. Buck will lead the prayer gathering for peace and reconciliation among all faith traditions especially in the Middle East and the Holy Land. MID-CAREER PARISHIONERS GROUP The Mid-Career Parishioners Group enables parishioners forty-five and over to join together in fellowship, and participate in faith-related discussion groups, charitable activities, cultural excursions, social gatherings, and monthly after-dinner coffee hours. The device offers parishioners, and visitors, a means by which to make offertory donations via credit card. All donations made through the kiosk are credited to parishioner accounts. Check it out today! NOVEMBER 18, 2018 ADVENT HOMELSS LUNCHES The Advent Homeless Community Meals begin Wednesday Nov. 28, and continue on Wednesday December 5, 12, and 19. Volunteers are needed to bring home cooked dishes, juice, fruit, desserts, and sandwiches. Help is also needed to set up, serve, visit with our guests, and clean up. Food offerings may be put in the kitchen in DiGiovanni Hall before noon or left with Nancy Nicolaou. Donations of warm gloves, socks, hats, scarves are also welcome.
