Wednesday, ten (10) days in advance of the weekend of publication. PARISH REGISTRATION: Welcome all new families and individuals. Membership is a condition for the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion at St. Benedict, and for the parish to issue a sponsorship certificate for those asked to be sacramental sponsors. You must be a registered, contributing member for at least three (3) months before a certificate will be given. Registration forms are available in the Parish Office. SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK: If you are seriously ill, going in for surgery or weak from old age, you may receive the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. Please contact Fr. Duong if you desire to receive this sacrament. HOSPITAL & NURSING HOME & SHUT-IN VISITS: If you or any members of your family are sick and in the hospital or a nursing home, and you d like Communion brought to them, please call the Parish Office. FAITH FORMATION: All classes from Pre-K to High School are on Sundays from 9:30-10:30am in the Parish Hall. For more information call Lynne McGrath. 5 PARISH NEWS TODAY IS RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY, sponsored by the Bishops Committee for Pro-Life Activities. The observance emphasizes concern for all human life, especially that of the unborn, the elderly, persons with disabilities, the terminally ill, and others whose lives are easily threatened. ADULT FORMATION OPPORTUNITY There is still time to enroll in the diocesan Lay Ministry program. The classes of this two year program are taught in several sites in the diocese, including Greensboro. For details, contact Frank Villaronga at or BIBLE STUDY will meet on Tuesday, October 4 th at 7pm in the Parish Hall.. THE 11AM CHOIR is seeking new members. Ability to read music is helpful, but not necessary. We rehearse every Wed. evening in the choir loft, 6:30-7:45pm and meet at 10:15 on Sundays. MS TOUR TO TANGLEWOOD: Parishioner, Mary Ann Sacco is biking in the MS Tour to Tanglewood for the 15 th year to help fight Multiple Sclerosis. She is riding in honor of our parishioner, Arlene Hennessy. Donations will be collected after all masses the weekend of Oct.1-2nd. 6 FAITH FORMATION NEWS *************************************************************************** 2016 CROP HUNGER WALK: This year's walk will mark the 36th anniversary of the Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk. Main Walk: Sunday, October 16, 2016 NewBridge Bank Park Registration: 1:30pm & Walk: 2:30pm LET US JOIN OUR YOUTH TO END HUNGER IN GREENSBORO THE MONTH OF OCTOBER: The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. Pope Benedict XVI in an address at the Basilica of St. Mary Major where he prayed the rosary with the faithful said: "...Today, together we confirm that the Holy Rosary is not a pious practice banished to the past, like prayers of other times thought of with nostalgia. Instead, the Rosary is experiencing a new Springtime. Without a doubt, this is one of the most eloquent signs of love that the young generation nourish for Jesus and his Mother, Mary. In the current world, so dispersive, this prayer helps to put Christ at the center, as the Virgin did, who meditated within all that was said about her Son, and also what he did and said. When reciting the Rosary, the important and meaningful moments of salvation history are relived. The various steps of Christ's mission are traced. With Mary the heart is oriented toward the mystery of Jesus. Christ is put at the center of our life, of our time, of our city, through the contemplation and meditation of his holy mysteries of joy, light, sorrow and glory. May Mary help us to welcome within ourselves the grace emanating from these mysteries, so that through us we can "water" society, beginning with our daily relationships, and purifying them from so many negative forces, thus opening them to the newness of God. The Rosary, when it is prayed in an authentic way, not mechanical and superficial but profoundly, it brings, in fact, peace and reconciliation. It contains within itself the healing power of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, invoked with faith and love at the center of each "Hail Mary"... 6

7 COMMUNITY NEWS A NOVENA OF REPARATION AND PETITION will be held at 6:15 P.M.at the Maryfield Chapel every Wednesday evening September 7th thru November 2nd for nine weeks before the election. Please come and bring a friend. ITALIAN AMERICAN SOCIAL CLUB 15 TH ANNUAL PASTA DINNER Sat., Oct. 8 th, 6:30pm to 10:30pm at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Fellowship Hall, 2715 Horsepen Creek Rd. This is a different schedule due to the separation of the First Friday and First Saturday on the calendar. Confessions are available from 7:30 8:30 PM. This night will include scriptural rosaries, Nine Offices of the Sacred Heart, silent adoration, Saturday Office Readings for the Immaculate Heart, Divine Mercy Chaplet and more ending with the First Saturday Mass at 8 AM.
