Wednesday, ten (10) days in advance of the weekend of publication. PARISH REGISTRATION: Welcome all new families and individuals. Membership is a condition for the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion at St. Benedict, and for the parish to issue a sponsorship certificate for those asked to be sacramental sponsors. You must be a registered, contributing member for at least three (3) months before a certificate will be given. Registration forms are available in the Parish Office. SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK: If you are seriously ill, going in for surgery or weak from old age, you may receive the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. Please contact Fr. Duong if you desire to receive this sacrament. HOSPITAL & NURSING HOME & SHUT-IN VISITS: If you or any members of your family are sick and in the hospital or a nursing home, and you d like Communion brought to them, please call the Parish Office. FAITH FORMATION: All classes from Pre-K to High School are on Sundays from 9:30-10:30am in the Parish Hall. For more information call Lynne McGrath. The goal of all parish ministries is to bring people to Christ. All of our parish work should be for the glory of God s name, not our own name. 5 PARISH NEWS DSA 2018 DIOCESAN SUPPORT APPEAL (DSA) We are now 3 months into the Diocesan Support Appeal campaign, and as of today 70 of our parishioners have contributed. We need each of you to help us reach our goal of $23, Thank you. NEW PROJECT 2018: St. Benedict Parish is working on the Church History Book now. Any parishioners or friends or visitors obtain any historical data or pictures, please let us know at Thank you for your love and support. EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS AND LECTORS NEEDED: There is a need for Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors at all Masses. What better way to fulfill the apostolic dream than to read God s word and/or distribute His most precious Body and Blood our fellow Parishioners. If you are interested in being part of these two spiritually gratifying Ministries or have any additional questions please call Fr. Duc at ALTAR SERVERS NEEDED All Masses need Altar Servers. It is always rewarding to see a child s love for his or her Faith grow stronger as they accept the responsibility of a ministry such as this. 7 COMMUNITY NEWS INTERESTED IN BECOMING A PERMANENT DEACON? Have you thought God might be calling you to serve the Church as a deacon? Would you like to know more about the process involved in becoming a permanent deacon? For more information, please call Deacon Scott D. Gilfillan at or sdgilfillan@catholicconference.org. The diocese starts a new formation class every four years. Before being selected for diaconate formation, a man has to complete the two-year Lay Ecclesial Ministry program offered by the diocese. Lay Ministry Program classes will begin this Fall-2018 with applications currently being accepted. These details and more on this program can be found at: FAITHFUL SERVANT CATHOLIC LEADERSHIP: High school aged youth are invited to attend the Faithful Servant, a week long leadership training to be held at Belmont Abbey College, June this summer. The program is a mix of Catholic teaching (prayer, sacraments, discernment, morality, evangelization, etc.) and critical life skills (decision making, planning, communication, group dynamics, negotiation, etc.) For more information and to register, Google "Faithful Servant Charlotte Diocese" or call Paul Kotlowski at FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM RELIGIOUS LIBERTY MARCH Join in the Religious Liberty March and Prayer Vigil on Friday, June 22. Gather for the march at the parking lot across the street from the Diocese of Charlotte Pastoral Center, located at 1123 S. Church St., Charlotte, NC We will begin marching at 11:30 a.m. Please arrive early to park and be prepared for the instructions by 11:15 a.m. The march will include preaching at Trade and Tryon streets, followed by the Litany for Religious Liberty. Then we will pray the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy in front of the Federal Courthouse at 401 W. Trade St., Charlotte. The march coincides with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Fortnight for Freedom Campaign. Catholics across the United States are encouraged to pray and act in support of religious liberty at home and abroad during "Serving Others in God's Love: Religious Freedom Week 2018," which begins on June 22, the Feast of Sts. Thomas More and John Fisher, and ends on June 29, the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul. 7
