Wednesday, ten (10) days in advance of the weekend of publication. PARISH REGISTRATION: Welcome all new families and individuals. Membership is a condition for the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion at St. Benedict, and for the parish to issue a sponsorship certificate for those asked to be sacramental sponsors. You must be a registered, contributing member for at least three (3) months before a certificate will be given. Registration forms are available in the Parish Office. SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK: If you are seriously ill, going in for surgery or weak from old age, you may receive the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. Please contact Fr. Duong if you desire to receive this sacrament. HOSPITAL & NURSING HOME & SHUT-IN VISITS: If you or any members of your family are sick and in the hospital or a nursing home, and you d like Communion brought to them, please call the Parish Office. FAITH FORMATION: All classes from Pre-K to High School are on Sundays from 9:30-10:30am in the Parish Hall. For more information call Lynne McGrath. We appreciate the thoughtfulness of parishioners who have included us in their will through bequests. These gifts exist in perpetuity for the work of our parish. 4

5 PARISH NEWS DSA SUPPORT APPEAL 2017 We are now eleven weeks into the Diocesan Support Appeal campaign, and as of today 53 of our parish families have contributed. We need each of you to help us reach our goal of $24, ST. BENEDICT DECAL If you missed buying your decal you can come by the church office to purchase one. The minimum cost is $5 for one or two for $9, donations are appreciated. Proceeds will go to help fund for the restoration of the church. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY: The Second Sunday of Easter is dedicated as the Divine Mercy Sunday. On this day, we reflect on God s love for us and the whole world. We are called to respond to his love. On Sunday April 23 rd at 2:30PM we will have Divine Mercy Liturgy with Adoration, Divine Mercy Chaplet, and Benediction. Let us come to pray and give thanks for the gift of God s love for us. PROTECTING GOD S CHILDREN St. Benedict s is offering a Protecting God s Children session on Saturday, May 6 th, from 9:00 to 12:00 in the Parish Hall. All ministers/leaders who work with children have to take this seminar. Please call Lynne McGrath at the Parish office to sign up Thank you. THE INTERNATIONAL-NATIONAL COMBINED COLLECTION will be taken at all Masses next weekend. Your contribution to the good work of these organizations will give you an opportunity to participate in the mission of the Church locally, nationally and internationally. Please take the time to read the brochure you will receive from Msgr. West, give prayerful thought to your level of participation and respond with a generous contribution. Envelopes for this collection are in our parish envelope packet. SEMINARIAN DINNER. Piedmont Council of the Knights of Columbus is hosting a Seminarian dinner and raffle on Saturday, May 6, at 6:30 PM at the Knights Club, 2780 Horse Pen Creek Road, to help our seminarians meet expenses while attending the seminary other than tuition and room and board. Tickets for the dinner costing $12.00 will be sold after the Masses by a Knight at the church next weekend. To make a reservation, call John Polickoski at BIBLE STUDY Will meet on Tuesday, April 25 th in the parish hall from 7:00pm-8:00pm. Please join us. 5

6 SAVE THE DATE! Our Charlotte Diocese Eucharistic Congress will take place on Friday and Saturday, September 8 & 9. This spiritually unifying event brings together thousands of Catholics from across the diocese and southeast for spiritual talks, music, prayer, and fellowship - all centered around the Most Blessed Sacrament. All ages welcome! FAITH FORMATION NEWS CONFIRMATION 2017: We have nine teenagers this year who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in May. They are: Luke Bissell, Monse Espitia-Garcia, Jackson Hall, Thomas Hughes, Ashile Mensah, Baxter Miller, Kayla Miller, Mishel Netto, and Nishel Netto. We ask you to keep these young people in your prayers at this very special time in their lives. **** Retreat for all Confirmation candidates will be on Friday evening, May 19 th YOUTH GROUP NEWS The Youth Group will be participating in the Walk for Life on Saturday, April 29. Please give them your support and prayers as they support our expectant mothers and their unborn children. This week let us say Happy Birthday to: Susan Cummings (4/24), Alexandria Robinson (4/27), Robert S Mattoon (4/28) COMMUNITY NEWS WORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." Celebrate God s love and mercy to each other by going to a Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend. The next weekends are: Jun 23-25, 2017 in Chapel Hill, NC and Jul 7-9, 2017 in Greenville, SC. Early sign up is recommended. TROUBLED YOUTH OF GUILFORD COUNTY Douglas Logan has served Guilford County for 26 years as the Director of Court Alternatives/Juvenile Detention. He earned a BS degree in Psychology and Human Service from Elon University in Mr. Logan will be accompanied by a female representative who will speak to the issues of young women in detention. Held at the Franciscan Center, 233 North Greene Street, GSO on April 27 th, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. The cost is $5.00 per person (includes lunch at 11:45 a.m.) Please pre-register by calling Ann Mann at CALLING ALL GOLFERS!
